  Chapter 1

Tabatha flopped down on her sofa. Her feet ached, and it felt like someone took a jack hammer to her head. She pushed her hair back away from her face, leaned her head back, and closed her eyes.

  God, my life sucks!

Her morning started out like a nightmare, and her day went downhill from there. First, her car was stolen from the parking lot at her apartment. Frantic, she called the police. After the police officer took her report and gave her a case number, she walked two miles to work, arriving two hours late. At the end of the day, her boss called her into his office and fired her. Cutbacks, he said. Why couldn’t they fire her when she arrived? They wanted more work out of her before they let her go.

Shoving off her pumps, she propped her feet on the coffee table and moaned when the phone rang. She let the answering machine pick it up when she heard the voice on the machine.

“I know you’re home. I loved those pumps you wore today. We’re coming for you next, Tabatha. We haven’t forgotten you.” Chills skirted down her spine. Her eyes focused on the front door and she noticed it was unlocked. Panic racing through her, she jumped up, stumbling to get to the door. Tears streamed down her cheeks. The door locked, her heart pounded at her chest walls and she fell to the floor, leaning against the door. “You should have died with your family, but that’s okay. Those luscious tits and pussy will be fun to explore before I kill you,” the shrill voice threatened.

The worst day of her life flashed before her eyes.

  Ten Years Ago

“Hey, Mom, I can’t go out on the boat today with you guys. Melody is coming over and we’re going to work on our science project that’s due Monday,” Tabatha said as she walked out onto the porch. Her family was getting ready for their outing.

“Tabby, why do you always put things off? You know today is supposed to be for the family. It’s rare for your father to have a day off.” Her mom frowned at her.

“I didn’t know dad was going to be home. You said we had no plans.”

“Fine, but I want it done before tonight. You’ll be at the table for our family dinner. Is that understood?”

“Hey, why does she get out of this and I have to go? I had plans with Hoyt you made me cancel,” her older brother, Ben, asked, grinning at her.

“Don’t you start,” their mother demanded over her shoulder while she carried a cooler to their father, who waited on the boat.

They waved to her from the craft before starting the engine. She heard and saw the boat explode, which sent her flying into the porch door. Her family and life as she knew it gone!

  Present

The rattle of keys in the lock of the door shook her out of the nightmare.

“Tabatha, let me in,” Melody, her roommate, yelled.

“You’re alone, right?” Her voice squeaked.

  “Yes!”

Her legs lifted her tired body from the ground. Tabatha backed up waiting for her best friend to come in and shut the door.

“Tabatha, what are you doing?” Melody asked. She put her hands on her hips and glared at her friend. “We have to be ready in an hour. Shane will be here soon.”

“Do you know where I put that phone number for the detective that’s working on the case for my family? Would you make sure the door is locked please?” Panic surged through her system. Dumping her purse out onto the coffee table, she searched for the card.

“Tabby, what’s wrong? Something’s happened, hasn’t it?” Melody grabbed her hands and held them still and stared into her eyes.

“The person who killed my family wants me now. There’s a message on the answering machine. You have to leave. It’s not safe around me. I won’t have you taken away, Mel. You’re all I’ve got.”

The pounding on the door terrified both of them. They both screamed and jumped up.

“What the hell is wrong? Melody, are you okay? Open up the door now,” Shane demanded.

“See? It’s okay. It’s just Shane. I’m coming. Hold on!” Melody hugged her and turned to open the door.

“Peek through the hole, Mel. You don’t know who it could be. You know it could be a demon or something else out there pretending to be him.”

Melody stopped before the door. “What do you mean demons? When did you hear about them?” she asked over her shoulder, looking back and forth to the door.

“The detective who is working on my parents' case told me they believed a demon and a wolf shifter had something to do with my parents’ deaths. Why do you think I spent the next three years at libraries and antique shops looking for information on them? Ask him a personal question that only he would know.” Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the detective’s card and grabbed it.

“What are you waiting for? Ask him. I’m calling the detective.” She dialed the number and watched Melody.

A deep voice on the phone answered.

“Detective Cyrus here, can I help you?”

“I’m looking for a Detective Branson.” She watched Mel give her thumbs up and open the door.

“I’m sorry, miss. Detective Branson retired two years ago. Can I help you with somethin
g?”

“What? He can’t. I need him. He said he wouldn’t stop till he found out who murdered my family!” Fresh tears ran down her face.

“Give me the phone, Tab. You’re in no shape to talk to anyone,” Shane said softly and took the phone from her. Mel wrapped her arms around her and pushed her towards the couch.

“Hello, this is Shane Whiteson." Shane looked to her before speaking again. "I’m a friend of Tabatha’s.” He brushed a hand through his hair. “Oh crap! Hoyt, is that you? I forgot you’re captain of the PSU, Paranormal Special Unit. Sorry, Alpha.”

Shane walked to the kitchen talking softly to the man. She couldn’t hear a word he said, but knew he would take care of everything.

Shane hung up the phone and walked over to them sitting on the coffee table.

“Okay, as you heard, my Alpha is now the captain of the special force. I’ve told him everything Mel’s told me, and he wants us to bring the tape to the Halloween party. He also wants you to pack a bag, Tabby. You’re going to be staying at our house for a while along with Mel.” He pushed his hand through his hair.

“I need to just go away. I shouldn’t be around you guys. They’ll take you away from me!” Tabatha leaped up and began to pace.

“You’re not going anywhere. We can protect you, Tab. Now, I want you to go in your bedroom, take a nice hot shower and get your costume on. You’ll be surrounded by werewolves. No one will dare try and hurt you at the club.” He pushed her towards the bedroom. “Mel, you go and get ready, too. I told Hoyt we’d be late, but I don’t want to be too late.”

“I tell you what. You go soak in the tub, and I’ll lay out your costume for you. This party is just what you need,” Mel said.

“Shit! I forgot to tell you I lost my job today and my car just disappeared.” She stopped and stared over her shoulder at Mel. “It seems my luck ran out.”

“What? Those idiots at your office don’t know what they’ve done. Hell, you ran that office,” Melody yelled.

Tabatha made her way to the bathroom. She threw her clothes off as she went, not caring where they landed.

Melody is right. Maybe a night out will be fun, plus the captain of PSU will be there. After all, Halloween is her favorite holiday and after the nightmare of a day she had, she needed to relax. Tonight, she would try and forget her troubles. Tomorrow would be a good day to worry.

Tabatha dried off, applied lotion and wrapped the towel around her body. She made her way to her bedroom, staring down at the Halloween costume that lay on her bed.

Oh Mel, this is perfect now, if it fits. She eyed the red outfit. Tabatha stared at her reflection in the mirror. With the top so sheer everywhere except for the nipples, it left nothing to the imagination. Handcrafted beads barely covered her nipples. The design of a dragon had been hand sewn on the front and back of the skirt. The skirt, sewn with a hundred different silk veils, had beads that chimed as she moved.

Tabatha grinned as she grabbed the outfit and threw her towel down to the floor. The skirt fit tight against her rounded ass, but it worked. Yanking on the top, she pulled and stretched the fabric, trying to fit her huge breasts into it. Her breasts barely fit the top. The material only fully covered her nipples and they threatened to spill out. She walked out of the bedroom, adjusting the snug top, tugging at her ample breasts.

“Come on, Melody. There had to be another costume at the store. It shows a little too much for me.” She looked up, patting her top down, only to meet Shane’s stare.

“I think you look great. Wow!” His gaze scanned her from head to toe.

“Hey, what about me? You’re my mate, you stupid werewolf,” Melody demanded as she stood in the doorway to her bedroom, glaring daggers at him.

Shane turned. He inspected every curve of his mate’s body. The costume was so short it barely covered her mound. Black silk covered her body with wing arms. The top rose to her neck, and a slit went down the middle of the top showing her breasts.

Melody shrieked as she tried to avoid him, but he jumped over the coffee table, and pinned her to the wall. He softly kissed her forehead.

“You’re beautiful and you know I can’t be with anyone else. We’ll have our bonding ceremony next week at the pack house. Now, come here, my little geisha girl.” He grabbed her around the waist and pulled her to him, lifting her feet off the ground. He carried her to the door.

A laugh escaped Tabatha as she tugged yet again on the ill-fitting costume. Thank god I know how to belly dance at least.

“Okay, quit fooling around,” Tabatha insisted. “Let’s get going. I need a drink.”

“I still can’t believe Tabby got her car stolen today. And on top of that, she got fired by that jerk, Kenneth. You know it’s because she wouldn’t sleep with him. Hell, he’s been grabbing her ass for the past two weeks,” Melody said over her shoulder. Shane grabbed their coats and handed hers to her.

“I know, but...” Just thinking about her former boss made her hair stand on end. “God, he is so gross. He never took a shower, his hair stunk, and was always dirty and stringy. Just the thought of him touching me gives me the willies.” Tabatha stopped for a minute, thinking about it, and then continued walking to the car.

Shane grabbed hold of her, stopping her progress. “Wait, let me check outside.”

His nose sniffed around the door. He poked his head out doing the same thing.

  “Okay, everything is clear.”

“The jerk knew about my car being stolen this morning when I went to work. You know something else? He asked me about it. At first I didn’t think nothing much of it, but as the day went on, it started to bother me how he knew. Maybe I should tell the detective about that.” Tabatha glanced at Melody while they waited for Shane to unlock the car.

“Don’t worry about him. He’ll get what is coming to him,” Shane stated in a flat, reassuring manner. Melody laughed as they all got into Shane’s car.

“Shane believes his werewolf people can take care of everything.”

She threw her hands up in a mock bow to Shane.

“I think you should tell the police about Kenneth. There is something off with him. I get really bad vibes from him.” Melody frowned and stared out the window of the vehicle as they drove down the highway.

“All right, before we get to the party is there anything I should know? You know, is there anything I should make sure not to say or do? I don’t want to offend anyone,” Tabatha said, getting out of the car.

“No, just be yourself. The Alpha will be here, along with everyone in the pack, so we’ll have a full house. I should warn you. It might get wild tonight with the unmated wolves. They’ll be looking for females, so don’t be surprised if you have them sniffing about you.” Shane laughed.

The huge door stood before her. The beads of her costume shook while her body trembled. It would be the first time being around another species, and it was the same species that killed her family. But all can’t be blamed for a few bad apples! Cool air entered her lungs as she took a deep breath and entered the Moonlight Night Club. Tabatha had already been informed that the club was a werewolf only club, and that humans never ventured into it unless invited.

Upon entering she noticed that Shane grabbed Melody around the waist, bringing her closer to his body, warning others of his claim.

Tabatha’s jaw dropped as she stared at the meat market before her. The lights low, men walked around bare from the waist up. Some just wore a single fig leaf cover their shafts, like that of Adam and Eve, leaving nothing to the imagination. She had never seen so many hot men assembled in one room. Men walked around looking like gods. Some men dressed as Greek gods and she loved Greek anything. A few other women walked around, she noticed. Tabatha stood there just inside the door to the club, unmoving as Melody walked up beside her.

“Okay, I have gone to heaven,” Tabatha whispered in Melody’s ear as Shane walked up, grabbing Melody around the waist.

  “Ready, ladies?”

  “I c
an’t believe you have kept this place secret. I am surprised women around the world aren’t begging to get in. God, this is heaven,” Melody whispered as Shane laughed.

“I’m afraid I’m all the heaven you’re getting, mate, so stop staring,” he growled, pulling her closer to his body.

“Now come on, I want you two to meet the Alpha and captain since he’s waiting for us.” Escorting the ladies across the room, Shane ignored everyone else, concentrating on the Alpha.

The huge men stared at her while they walked by them, sniffing the air as if she was something to serve up for their pleasure. Tabatha the T-bone. She squirmed when they reached the table where four men sat.

“Oh crap. Here, let me take your coats. I totally forgot we have a coat cheek.” Shane helped both of them with their coats. The room erupted in whistles. Tabatha felt the heated blush run up her face as she glared at Melody.

“I told you the outfit is too skimpy,” she murmured, elbowing Melody. Shane took their coats and handed them to a girl who walked up to their group. The girl was tall and slinky, with long black hair that swung across her ass when she walked by them. Tabatha heard her growl when she passed, throwing her hair back. The belly dancer’s outfit she wore wasn't filled out like hers.

“Boy, what is it with the growling?” Tabatha laughed, trying to ignore the witch.

Melody laughed. “I have a feeling the women are jealous, and you look fabulous tonight. Look. They’re huddling now. Maybe they’ve never been around humans,” Melody said, looking at a group of women dressed in an assortment of costumes. Belly dancers to Eve stared at them and pointed their fingers at her and Melody.

“Oh, this is going to be fun!” Tabby rolled her eyes. This party better get going or I’m leaving. “Melody, I’m not really in the mood to fight, but then again the day I’ve had maybe what I need is a good old brawl.” Tabatha threw her hands up and glared back at the women, daring them to do anything.
