After a while, I was back in bed, closing my eyes as she assaulted me yet again. This time, I let it play out.

  Epilogue

  Anise

I hit the redial button again, the seventh time I’d called him. Each time he didn’t answer, I got increasingly pissed. When I heard the click, I got anxious and then heard his voice.

“Anise, I told you I would call you back when I was out of there.”

“Oh, sweetheart,” I said, making a face. “I was just worried. I hadn’t heard from you since you said you were going to Nico’s house. I was worried he found out and we had to quickly move to plan B.”

“Baby, I would have let you know if there was anything to be concerned about.”

  “So, what’s going on?”

  “He doesn’t remember.”

  “What doesn’t he remember?”

“Last night, he doesn’t remember last night at all. He remembers earlier in the day but he didn’t remember going to the club or the girl.”

  “Not even a little?”

“No, he remembers nothing. Last night is missing.”

“So, he doesn’t know what we did last night. He doesn’t know about being at the penthouse with the girl?”

“Nothing. Whatever your chemist friend put into that mixture seemed to have done better than we anticipated.”

“He said it was a mixture of chloroform and pentane, enough to knock him off his ass. I didn’t know he’d have a touch of amnesia.”

“Well, it knocked him off his ass, all right. He couldn’t remember anything and he didn’t come downstairs until almost two. My guys at the hotel covered all the bases, and Nico never showed. I had someone clean the room, and my guy stationed in the lobby said she came down around noon and looked like she’d been crying.”

“Good. That little bitch. I hope she learns not to do that shit again. Coming in between…never mind. I’m glad he didn’t remember, and the way you explained it, he probably never will. Now, Daddy and I can work on our plan.”

“Yeah, work on the plan tomorrow. I saw your dad tonight when I left. He looked like he shit his pants.”

  “Why? Is Daddy okay?”

“He’s fine. Nico killed Teddy Romane tonight. Your dad was one of his targets, so tell him to play stupid, because if they get wind your dad is up to something, he’ll be next.”

“I’ll take care of it. Daddy will walk the straight and narrow from now on. By this time next year, I’ll have Nico’s money and I’ll be living in Paris.”

“Okay, baby, I gotta go. I have to meet up with the others, show my face. I’ll stop by later.”

I panicked, wondering why he’d want to do that. “Oh, honey, I can’t tonight. I have cramps, you know.”

Please, understand what I’m saying without me explaining it to you, dumbass.

“Oh…okay, well…in a couple of days, then. I can’t wait to make you come again.”

“Yeah, I look forward to it.” I covered my mouth, trying not to throw up.

  “Okay, baby, I love you.”

“Me too, kisses,” I said before quickly ending the phone call.

Now I needed to make plans, because Nicholas Prescotti was going to be mine. I would be the queen, have the nice house, access to all his money…and then he would have a very bad accident in which he would eat his own gun.

I jumped up, cheering. I would have it all.

  The End

  About the Author

Ashlee Taylor has always loved to read. She was practically born with a book in hand. She even wrote short stories and vignettes for fun at age eleven.

As she grew up, reading was put to the side but the book Fifty Shades of Grey brought back her love of the written word. Swallowing every book she could get her hands on while befriending authors, eventually becoming a beta reader and helping authors work out critical scenes and plot progressions. Through this process, Ashlee decided to write the stories in her head.
