It was funny to me, for whatever reason that I found him to look nice. Leon wasn’t like Jay in a sense that Jay always liked to show off, with expensive clothes, cars, and other things. Leon was more laid back, so laid back that at times I was sure that if I hadn’t been looking for him, I might not have seen him.
I walked over to him and looked down at him with my eyes wide. I tried to act more focus and less nervous, but was failing greatly.
He looked up at me, when I had been standing by him, for a little over a few seconds. He put a small smile on his face and leaned forward towards me. His eyes were so focus on me that I felt myself about ready to blush.
My goodness Bonnie get a hold of yourself. I thought as I looked back at him. I tried to get my eyes to tell him, I didn’t care that he was staring at me the way he was. He was staring like I amused him greatly.
I think he and his brothers aren’t any good yet, I am here blushing in his face. What sense does that make? I thought and folded my arms. I glared at him making my face look at him as hard as I could.
“Are you mad at me?” Leon asked. His tone was clearly amused by this, yet I could hear a fate tone of shock. “I know I said that I would go to the pizza place with you, but Jay heard about it and honestly I was really hungry.”
I stared at him completely dumb founded. Did he honestly think this had anything to do with going to that pizza place together? He has got to be kidding.
“This has nothing to do with that.” I almost made my voice rise. I noticed that a lot of other students had begun to walk into the class. Some of their eyes would fall on us in wonder and then some of the other students would just like they didn’t really care.
I sighed as I hoped that none of the students thought I was trying to get with any of the forbidden four.
“It doesn’t. Then why are you made at me?” He asked his face looking as if he honestly wanted to know.
I began to wonder if he did know what I wanted to know. It may have been the way he said it or the way his eyes were glowing at me like he knew a secret that he wasn’t going to tell. But that may have been just my imagination.
“How long have you known Jay?” I asked. I not only thought that this was a dumb question seeing as that Jay and Leon where brothers or claimed to be, but he looked slightly surprised by my question.
I had wanted to ask him if Jay told him about what I saw, but then thought that would be stupid. I didn’t want to ask him that first. I wanted to see if he would tell me the truth before I started asking questions like that.
Besides, what if Jay thought I thought it had been a nightmare? He hadn’t done anything in the café that made me think he thought I knew something. He didn’t even look as if he was worried about what I saw. He had been himself.
“We’re brothers.” Leon said then looked at me with something I couldn’t read in his eyes. “Why would you ask such a silly question?”
“No reason.” I said quietly. I leaned to the side and looked passed him out the window.
“You shouldn’t ask questions unless you really want to know those answers.” He said quietly to me. I looked back at him with a blank face so very confused. “Sometimes believing a lie is better than knowing the true.”
I stared at him wanting to bite my lip and not tell him that I didn’t want to live in bliss, the truth sets you free or so I had heard. I decided to tell him that bliss is for people who are afraid and I wasn’t afraid.
“Bliss is for people who are afraid and I’m not afraid.” I whispered so only he could hear.
He smiled at me. “But some truths aren’t ones that need to be said, for some truths will break everything you believed in.” He leaned in closer to me and whispered into my ear sending shivers down my shine. “Some truths don’t set you free; they put you in a whole another hole.” He moved back from me and smiled. “Living in the rabbit hole isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.”
My eyes stared at him widely confused. What did he mean by the rabbit hole? Was he talking about Alice in Wonderland?
What?
I shook my head at him trying to figure out what his words really meant. I closed my eyes and played the whole rabbit hole remark back in my head.
“What do you mean by living in the rabbit hole isn’t what it’s cracked up to be?” I asked then opened my eyes to stare at him.
“You should sit down, the teacher is coming in.” He told me and then looked at the door. I turned my head and saw that the teacher was walking into the room. I went to sit down in the chair that was right by him. “Did you do the homework?” He asked suddenly looking as if he was off the topic we had just been speaking about.
“What did you mean?” I pressed as I tried to keep my voice low. I didn’t like this game he was playing. It felt like hide and seek. It was like he was hiding something and I had to go seek to find it.
“Meet me by the stands by the soccer field.” He quickly said then looked up at the teacher who I then saw eyes were right on me.
“Ms. White, why don’t you, tell me the answer to the question on the broad?” The teacher asked with a smirk. It was as if the teacher knew I wouldn’t know the answer. I frowned and looked at the question. I wanted to just make a quick guess out of all of the multiple choices answers. It was just A-D.
“I mmmm.” I was just going to say C, but Leon voice interrupted me.
“She was just telling me that she knew the answer was A.” His voice was so truthful that I found it hard not to believe I didn’t say that. “But I don’t know.”
The teacher looked at him with a ruffed face. “That’s right. Students please turn to page fifty of your books.”
I noticed a few smiles on some of the other students’ faces and turned my head towards my book, so I could pay attention to the rest of the class.
Chapter 10
Cold Case
The rest of the class wasn’t good. My mind just kept telling me, I needed to know answers, now. I kept looking at Leon for about half of the class, just staring hoping his grey eyes held the answers I wanted to know, but every time I looked into them, he would make sure his eyes stared straight on the teacher, following every word the teacher spoke.
This made me upset, but what made me more upset was the thought of writing a note and passing it to him; only to hope he would tell me what I needed to know. That thought made me feel wrong. It was like I was obsessing over the topic.
I had good reason to. I told myself. I thought he, well really his brothers were killing people and here I was not doing anything about it.
As soon as the bell rang, I felt his hand go on my arm. He pulled me out of the class and even grabbed my books up with his. As he pulled me in down the hall I noticed that people where looking at us in the halls with wide eyes.
But there was one pair of eyes that I noticed out of everyone in the walls. Madison was in the hall talking to a girl with dark blonde hair, but when she saw me she stopped speaking.
Her dark almond colored eyes were at first shocked when they had scanned over Leon hand holding mine, but then there was a smirk that went over her lips, then that turned into a full out smile.
I just looked away from her and allowed him to take me wherever he was trying to take me. I could have sworn he had said that he wanted me to meet him at the stands, by the soccer field, but as I looked around I could see that he was taking me there himself.
No one, not even the teachers, said anything as he drag me outside and led me to the soccer stands. The sun was out and it was blazing against my skin. I noticed that the soccer team was outside playing and hoped that Keith or Reed wouldn’t noticed the fact that I was out here. Something told me that Madison was going to tell Keith anyway, but I rather he found out that way, then to see me with his eyes.
When Leon stopped right behind the stands he let my hand go. I stared around me and I saw that the sun was coming through some of the stands. Leon stood right in the shade as if trying to avoid the sunrays.
H
e was really pale, unlike Jay who golden tan skin glowed with a warm light. Leon skin may have been pale but it did glow, just in a different way than Jay’s. Leon’s skin glowed like silky fresh milk.
I folded my arms and stared at him. I then heard the bell ring and I knew that I was late to my next class, but I didn’t care. I was about to get him to answer all of the questions I needed to be answered.
“I guess it’s safe to say I will be missing my next class.” I said then cracked a small smile.
He laughed quietly and looked up. “Yeah, I guess that is ok. I kind of wanted to do this right away.”
I frowned at that. He just wanted to get me out of the way, I guessed. I bit my bottom lip and looked away from him.
“Ok.” I whispered out, not understanding why I felt this sad feeling in my stomach.
“I don’t want them to find out.” He said lightly. “They may over hear some students talking, but they do know we have a class together.”
His voice sounded as if he knew what I had been thinking about. The fact that he just wanted to get me out of the way, but I guessed he was trying to tell me that he wasn’t. I had to fight back a smile.
“Oh.” Was all I could say, and then I stared at him blankly. I looked over his face, trying to see if I could read his eyes. I couldn’t.
“What did you want to talk about?” He asked suddenly.
“Did Jay tell you what I saw?” I said just wanting to get to it.
“What did you see?” Leon asked softly.
Was that a trick question? I thought quickly then looked away from him. My eyes looked all around me. I wasn’t really paying attention to anything around me, even as my eyes looked over every tree, bench, and other useless things that was around. I just didn’t want to look at him all of a sudden.
What I was doing was stupid. I should have just gone to the police and told them what I saw, instead of trying to ask them questions. I laughed in my head at the thought of going to the police.
What was I going to tell them? I saw Jay sucking the life out of a girl. That would make me end up in a crazy house.
But standing here, talking to one of the guys, that I thought was killing people, wasn’t a good idea at all. Yet here I was all alone with Leon. For all I know he would kill me right here. Would anyone here me scream? If someone did here me scream, would they be fast enough to see it was Leon out here with me? No, if he was as fast as Jay I don’t think that the person would even see Leon.
What was I to do? Just allow them to hurt people and just say nothing. I couldn’t do that, but facing them on my own did seemed really foolish. Maybe if I had some kind of proof that they weren’t what they said they were, I could get some help.
My eyes went back to Leon and I saw that he was watching me with interest, but the more I looked at him the more I thought he wasn’t looking at me at all. Something gave me the feeling that he was looking past me or really not past me but through me, as if he was searching for something he had lost long ago and needed back.
“I need to get to class.” I said and turned from him. I wasn’t going to go to class. I was going to go see Beth since she worked in the office this hour. I could get her to let me into the principal office, and then I would be able to check some of the files, to see just where the forbidden four came from.
“We’re not really brothers.” I heard Leon say softly. I turned my head to look at him thinking that I had to have heard him wrong. There was no way he said that to me. “But blood couldn’t make us any closer.”
I turned all the way around and stared at him. The shade kept his pale complexion from the sun, but once in a while he would move slightly out of the way, when the sun rays would move towards where he was standing.
His pale blonde hair was covering his grey eyes and I wondered if his eyes could turn gold just like Jay’s did. Maybe all of their eyes could do that. I had seen Damon eyes turn gold before. I had seen that when me and Angelica where at the club.
“Why did you tell me that?” I asked not really wanting him to stop talking to me. I began to like the sound of his voice. It wasn’t beautiful, like a medley, the way Jay’s was, but there was something about it, that me made want to smile every time I heard it.
I began to hug myself, when I saw him smile warmly at me. This felt so weird to me. I had talked to him before, but whenever I was alone with him, it made me feel like the teenager that I was.
“I thought you should know.” He said off handily. He walked to me and I felt my body tense. What was he going to do? Jay would always pull me close to him and hold me close, but Leon, I had no idea what he would do if he was close to me.
He stopped, when he was so close enough, that if I had breathed hard my body would be touching his. We both were standing in a shaded spot. The sun rays were all around us but it didn’t once touch our skin.
I saw him raised a hand up and before I knew what he was going to do, he touched my hair softly. I kept my eyes on his eyes. His beautiful eyes were staring at me and I wasn’t too sure, but I felt like what we were doing was something we shouldn’t be doing.
Leon was just touching my hair, but it felt like he was doing something that was forbidden. He kept looking in my eyes, staring in them like he was searching for something, like he needed an answer to something, I only knew.
“Why did you think that?” I whispered afraid to move.
His hands moved to my cheek. He moved his hand across my cheek, gently, then slowly moved his hand down to my neck. His skin felt so nice. It was so warm, so unlike Jay’s icy skin. He started to move his head towards me. I didn’t move. I didn’t even want to move.
Then all of a sudden he stopped. Leon grey eyes went wide and moved back from me. He looked like he had just wakened up or something. He moved back to where he had been standing at before he had moved closer to me.
He looked away from me and I thought I saw a smirk on his face. “What do you want from me?”
Leon voice sounded different. I almost felt like he wasn’t talking to me, but past me. It just seemed like I was being caught in the cross fire.
“I don’t want anything from you.” I said my voice sounding as if I was out of breath. “I am leaving.”
I was about to walk away from him, yet again, until I heard him say “Sorry”. My eyes turned back to him and he was smiling at me. “I was wrong, please sit down.”
My mind was trying to wrap around the idea of what was wrong with him. He was proving to have mood swings just like Jay.
My eyes watched him take off his coat and put it on the ground. I looked at the coat he had placed on the ground, and then I looked back up only to see his hand raised out to me. I took his hand and allowed him to help me sit down.
I felt weird letting him help me sit down, but I didn’t pay too much mind to the feeling. I just looked up at the blue sky and frowned slightly.
Leon sat down right by me and stared at me, watching my every move.
“It rained early, but you can’t tell.” Leon said then gestured to the sky, and then his eyes went to the ground.
“Yeah, I thought it was going to rain when I first got to school.” I let out.
“I hope you don’t get dirty.” He said looking me right in the eyes.
“Your coat is big enough, so I won’t get dirty,” I said to him lightly, moving my eyes from his. “But what about you?”
“I’m fine.” I looked back at him and saw that he really didn’t seem to care that he was going to get his nice designer clothes dirty. Designer clothes weren’t something he tended to where, so I wondered why he was wearing it today. “But I am sure that Jay won’t like his new jeans, which I stole, to get dirty.”
I laughed thinking Jay was the one who wore designer labels all the time. I didn’t think he owned any clothes that didn’t have a designer name on it. “Why did you do that?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“I was running late, so I just thought since he hasn’t worn half the clothes in his closet.
” He shrugged. “Why not?”
All I could do was shake my head at him. “So, are all of you guys adopted or something?” I asked him trying to get back on topic of me finding out who he really was.
“I guess you can say that.” He said then laid back. “They are the only family I have.”
I stared at him not really understanding why he was telling me this or why I felt like this wasn’t really that important. I had never thought they were brothers, so finding out I was right didn’t make me feel too shocked.
“What’s been happening to the girls at school?” I asked next and stared him right in the eyes.
“You tell me.” He said then put a huge smile on his face. “But, why would you think I knew anything about that?”
I stared at him. He looked honestly confused, like he had no idea what I was talking about.
“Did Jay tell you I saw him, after school the other day?” I asked. If he said no I would truly be surprise. It seemed like they told each other everything.
“No, but that makes me wonder what else he hasn’t told me, Nate, and Damon.” He whispered and then looked over my face as if trying to see something. “What did you see Bonnie, you never did tell me.”
I laughed nervously, wondering why I felt like I shouldn’t tell him. Maybe it was because Jay didn’t tell him or his other ‘brothers’.
“I don’t know. It wasn’t really anything.” I lied and looked away from him. I felt his hand on my leg and this made me look back at him. He looked truly concerned.
“Humor me.” He said his grey eyes staring straight into me.
“I just thought I saw him making out with a girl, but that’s something I always see him doing. In fact that’s what I saw him doing the very first time we spoke to each other,” I was rambling and I didn’t know why. But when I thought about the first time he said something to me, in the stair way, I wanted to hit my head. I would have never thought I would have saw him again at that club, but what was funny, was I know if I had not gone to that club he would have never said another two words to me.
