I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t understand what was happening between us right now. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to understand it or if I was scared to understand it.
I had always hated Jay. I thought he was the worst of the forbidden four, yet now…..I didn’t know.
His hand was in my hair and his other was around my waist. He held me so close yet not close enough. I didn’t think he would ever hold me close enough.
“Jay, I don’t know what to say.” I whispered out.
This conversation sounded like one we had before and I was now finally realizing that Jay really meant what he said. He did want to be with me. I wasn’t completely sure why, but he wanted me.
“Stay here,” Jay let out. I didn’t know if he was mad or not. He didn’t seem mad, but he didn’t seem happy either. “I won’t be long. Don’t worry about those pixies, they are long gone.”
He left and I stood there waiting.
Once we were both in the car, he pulled off. It didn’t take him long at all to pull up to me, in a car that I wasn’t going to ask how he got, but it had felt like forever.
I wasn’t sure if it was because I was scared of everything that was happening or because I was scared of being alone with him all of a sudden.
He wanted me and I didn’t know how I felt. I didn’t want him to ask me how I felt, because I didn’t know what to tell him.
We sat in the car, him driving me home and the radio playing a song I didn’t really know.
I didn’t say anything as he drove me home.
My eyes would look over at him, ever so often and I would see that he was doing the same to me.
I didn’t know why I was acting like this. I shouldn’t let him make me feel nervous or shy. I wouldn’t let him do this to me.
He was Jay. We never acted shy and nervous around each other.
“I’m kind of sorry for getting mad at you earlier.” I said folding my arms. I was being mean, but I couldn’t let him think he had me right where he wanted.
“Kind of sorry,” He laughed. “Because of me, you’re not dead. So, I think you should give me a whole sorry.”
“No, you marked me because you wanted to claim me.” I reasoned. I knew he had also marked me to keep me safe, but I wasn’t going to say that to him, right at this moment. “And that was way I was mad at you in the first place. And that was why I left you.”
“Well if I had never marked you, you would be dead and you couldn’t be mad at me, could you?”
I let out a breath.
“Bastard.”
He laughed.
“Because of Dora I’m not dead.” I replied, angrily.
“I know Dora.” Jay chuckled. “She only saved you because I marked you.”
I rolled my eyes, remembering that to be true.
“But you only marked me because you were jealous.” I laughed, hoping I had got him.
“Jealous?” He queried. “Of what or rather who?”
“You’re the one who was jealous, so you tell me.” I told him, not sure if I liked where this conversation was going. I felt kind of like I was walking into a trap. Even with me being the one trying to get him into a trap.
“You said I was jealous, so who could I have been jealous of?”
“I was joking Jay.” I let out, hating that I let him win.
“Humor me.” Jay said his voice was slightly off. I wondered if he wasn’t playing around anymore.
“I’m done joking around with you.” I smiled, nervously. “Besides, who would you ever be jealous of?”
“Maybe a certain blonde, who keeps brothering someone who’s mine.”
“Jay,” I began about to tell him to stop it.
“Here you go.” I turned and saw I was home. “Tell your mom that I’m sorry I can’t say hello today.”
“I will.”
“You won’t” He smiled.
“You’re right.” I laughed.
“So, I’ll see you tomorrow?” He asked, before I could get out of the car.
I opened the door and turned to him.
“Maybe,” I grinned. “But probably not.”
“Funny, but I think the candy wrapper wants their joke back.”
“Bye, Jay.” I laughed and closed the door.
I walked up my walk way and only looked back for a moment. I saw him looking at me with the same look Leon had held.
Chapter 18
Fairies aren’t so sparkly
I woke up, on a Sunday morning, to the sound of cartoons. I sighed and flipped around in my bed.
“Bonnie.” I turned in my bed and saw my sister.
She looked down at me with her beautiful big dark eyes smiling. She had her hair pulled up into a French braid and some of her hair fell around her face, making her look beautiful. She must have taken up all the beauty before I was born.
“You want me to watch her?” I sighed, turning in my bed.
“Please Bonnie.” My sister begged.
“Begging isn’t cute.” I smiled. “Besides it will get you nowhere.”
I turned and stared at her. She did look like she really needed my help. I would have normally watched Luria, but I needed to see the forbidden four today. I needed to see what was going on with the whole Jennifer thing.
“Honestly Bonnie. I really need your help.” She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “This would really help me out.”
I got up from my bed and walked passed her to my clothes. I was going to take a shower, then get ready. I really wanted to go see the forbidden four today and if I saw them, I couldn’t bring Luria along.
It was too dangerous.
“Things to do.” I told my sister, hating that I couldn’t help her out.
“You can’t do it another day.” She pleaded. “This is the only interview that they can give me. I would have asked you sooner, but the lady just called me today.”
“You already have a job.” I said to her, taking out an outfit that I got a few years ago.
“Yes, but this would mean I would have a career.” Mary responded with light in her eyes. “Mom will love this career. She will be so proud.”
I stared at her wondering if she was just saying that to get me to say yes or if she was really serious. By the look on her face she really believed this career would help her get mom back into her life.
I took in a deep breath and sighed.
“Fine, I’ll do it.” I stated tossing my clothes on my bed. “But you so owe me a nice big meal. I’m talking all my favorites.”
Mary smiled and hugged me to her.
“Thank you so much.” She yelled. “I’ll make you whatever you want and I even made you something today. I told Luria were it was in the refrigerator.”
I shook my head, thinking I could just see the forbidden four another day. We did go to school together, even if they rarely came.
“I’ll see you after the interview.” Mary grinned. “Wish me luck.”
“It takes skill, not luck.” I joked and saw Mary smirk.
“Right, well let’s both wish my skill is at its best, today.” She laughed, getting ready to walk out of my room.
I followed her.
“I wish your skill will be at its very best today.” I laughed, walking down the stairs behind her.
“Love you and I will be back before you know it.” Mary smiled and opened the front door. “Thank you so much, again.”
“Yup,” I responded and leaned on the front door frame. I watched her walk to her car and when she got in, she waved goodbye and drove off.
I had waved back, but I wasn’t sure if she saw or not. I yawned and closed the door behind me. After I locked the front door I walked down the hall.
I could hear the TV and I walked to it. I saw Luria sitting down in front of the TV, on the conch, kicking her legs. She had her book bag on the floor and her blonde hair was in two pigtails. I wanted to laugh, knowing her tom boy ways. I bet she fought her mother on putting her hair into pigtails, with ribb
ons. But when I noticed the dress, I almost couldn’t help myself from keeping quite.
“Luria.” I smiled.
She turned her head and grinned.
Luria got up and walked over to me. “Can we see Leon today?”
“Why do you want to see Leon?” I asked, dryly. I didn’t feel like I was all the way awake.
“Because I wouldn’t have put this on if I wasn’t.” She laughed, as if I was the crazy one.
That woke me up.
I stared at her. She was only almost five years old, but Leon would never age. Or at least that was something I got from seeing how old that picture of Elizabeth was. So, when she came of age they would be the same age.
I laughed at that. By that time the forbidden four would be long gone. But I wasn’t too sure if I like that idea.
“Bonnie,” Luria called, pulling my shirt.
“Yeah,”
“I want to see Leon.”
“Luria, I don’t know where he is and besides it’s too earlier.” I told her.
I need to take a shower and get changed.
Just as I was about to tell Luria, I heard a knock on the door.
I sighed and walked to the door.
“Wait a minute.” I yelled. Once I got to the door I asked who it was.
“Leon.”
I froze.
What was he doing here?
I opened the door and saw him standing there with this smile on his face. I then notice his eyes on my shirt. He began to slowly take me in, with his eyes. He suddenly looked up at me, his face red, and a shy smile on his lips.
“Just waking up?” He asked.
I frowned, and then remembered the t-shirt I wore to bed.
“Yeah, it’s earlier.” I responded a bit embarrassed.
“Right, I didn’t mean to wake you.” He said softly. His eyes weren’t even looking at me anymore and I got the feeling that he was more embarrassed then me.
“Don’t worry about it.” I smiled, stepping to the side, so he could come in. “Come in before my neighbors see.” I teased.
“Thanks.” He smiled and walked into my house.
“I’m happy to see that you know how to use a front door.” I told him, closing the door behind him and thinking about how Jay would just show up in my room.
He looked at me questionably as if he had no idea what I could be talking about.
I was about to tell him about how his brother would have just meant me in my room, when my niece walked into the room.
“Leon.” She screamed and ran as fast as she could with that dress on. “What are you doing here?”
“I came over to see you two.” Luria beamed staring at him then at me. “I wanted to ask if you two wanted to get some breakfast with me.” He smiled down at her.
Luria’s eyes brightened and she turned me. “Can we auntie? Can we?”
“I….” I wasn’t sure what to say. I would have loved to have gone out with Leon, but knowing there was a crazy pixie trying to kill me, could mean danger to Luria if she was seen with us.
“Auntie,” Luria began with a firm voice. “Mom didn’t cook.”
By her tone I could tell she was trying to imply that I couldn’t cook. But I knew she was lying about the fact that her mother didn’t cook. Mary had told me that she did and that she had told Luria were it was.
Did she really like Leon that much that she would lie to me? She wasn’t even five yet!
“I don’t have any money.” I said, hoping that would be a good enough answer. I would talk to her later about lying to me.
“Oh, this is my treat.” Leon laughed. “I guess I should have said that sooner.”
“I guess you should have.” I murmured under my breath. “Fine, we’ll go. Just let me take a shower first okay.”
“I’ll wait down here.” Leon said his tone feeling with something I couldn’t read.
“I’ll wait with you.” Luria beamed.
“No, you won’t.” I said and grabbed her hand. “You’re going to follow me up stairs so I can talk to you.”
She looked at me angrily and walked up the steps before me.
“I’ll be right back.” I told Leon, who was looking at me like he didn’t understand what was going on.
“Don’t even ask.” I whispered and turned to go up the stairs.
I followed her into my room and saw that she was standing in the middle of my room not looking happy one bit.
Staring at her, looking the way she did, made me see my mother in her more then I already did. I shook that from my head and walked to my bed to pick up my clothes.
“Firstly, I don’t care who you have a crush on. There will be no lying.” I told her, feeling twice my age. “And also I can’t believe you lied to me.”
“Sorry,” She said, completing ignoring that fact I said she had a crush. “But you were going to say no. So I had to.”
“No, you didn’t. But luckily for you I do need to talk to him.” I told her getting ready to walk out of my room.
Something told me that Leon was the safest one, of the forbidden four, to go out with.
“Do you like him aunt-t?” Luria asked.
I turned to look at her and saw that she had a puzzling look on her face.
“Do you?” I deiced to ask, since I had no idea how I felt about him.
“He’s too old for me.” She smiled, as if she knew something I didn’t. “Besides I don’t like boys….right now.”
“Really?” I asked smiling teasingly at her.
“Yes, really.” Luria laughed. “Can I go now?”
“Go ahead.” I chuckled. “I’ll be down in a minute.”
I watch her run pass me and down the stairs. I smiled and went to take my shower.
After I was done, I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked like I normally did and it didn’t seem like I did anything special with myself.
Just the way I wanted it.
I walked down that stairs and heard their voices coming from the living room.
“Leon, do you like your brothers?” Luria asked. “They seem nice.”
“We all get along, but lately we have been having a few disagreements.” He told her, laughing. He seemed to be talking to Luria very seriously and I wondered if he was used to being around kids.
“What do you disagree about?” Luria questioned, just as I walked into the room.
“Luria, stop asking so many questions.” I said walking into the room. She just smiled and shook her head. She got off of the conch and ran to me.
“Can we go to that pancake place by the park?” She asked smiling sweetly up at me.
I didn’t know we had a pancake place by the park. I needed to get out more.
“Only, if it is okay with Leon.” I grinned, looking up at him.
“It’s alright with me.” He said, getting up.
Luria jumped up and ran to the front door.
“Why do I get the feeling you would spoil her if you could?” I asked, walking beside him. His cheeks turned red and he looked away from me.
“I had a little sister.” He said, looking at Luria who was now running to his car.
“You miss her?” I asked, knowing from his tone, that he did.
“I do, but she died long before I became this.” He said, his eyes staring at me.
“When did she die?” I asked softly wanting to touch him so badly, but I was holding myself back. I didn’t know why.
“I was fourteen when she died.” He whispered. “It was an accident, my mom said. But I said she couldn’t be dead. She was a miracle.” I looked at him questionably and I saw him smile. “When she was born my mother had thought she could no longer have children. So when she came my mother said she was a miracle and that’s what she named her. But my sister was born with a weak heart and the doctors told my parents she may not make it to a year old.”
“But she did. She may have been sick at first, but as she got better she was so full of life. She just got into everything and ne
ver held back.” He laughed. “She followed me like a shadow and the day she died, will forever be in my memory. It hunted me for a long time, but now I know she’s happy. She has moved on.”
I smiled at him then touched his arm, unable to hold myself back anymore. “I bet you were a great big brother. But I’m sure she got you ever time you weren’t. I used get my sister when she tried to get me.”
He laughed. “I bet you did.”
“Are you two coming or what?” Luria yelled, stumping her foot. “I’m so hungry, I feel like I’m wasting away.”
I laughed. “Luria, we’re coming.”
“Let’s not tell my brothers about this conversation.” He told me softly. I looked confusingly at him. “It’s nice to have something that’s just between the two of us.”
I liked the way he was looking at me. His eyes were on my lips and he was close. I was hoping he wasn’t trying to distract me from whatever real reason he didn’t want his brothers to know about his sister.
“Why don’t you tell me the real reason why you don’t want them to know?” I asked, wanting so badly to pull my eyes from his lips.
“Trust me that was the real answer.” He spoke softly, his eyes still looking at me with something that resembled longing in his eyes.
“Auntie! Leon!” Luria screamed. I felt like cold water was thrown right on me. I turned my eyes and looked right at her. “Can we go now?”
“Here we come.” I sighed. “We better get going or she’ll hurt us.” I laughed turning to him. I saw that his eyes still had that longing look then suddenly he snapped out of it.
“Yes, we need to get going.” He said.
I was glad it didn’t take us long to get to the pancake place Luria wanted to go to. It felt weird sitting beside Leon and wondering what was going on in his mind. It was as if now everything we may have wanted to say couldn’t be said. Not with two little ears listening.
“Nina and Sara are here!” Luria yelled once Leon had parked the car. “They are getting frozen yogurt! I want some too. Can I have some?”
I was about to say no, but Leon spoke before the no was out of my mouth.
“Sure.” He said and went into his pocket. He handed her some money. “Why don’t you get you and your aunt some frozen yogurt?”
