Chapter 20
Different Worlds
I stared at her. She must have been joking. There was no why in the world Jay marked me because he wanted to marry me. He just did it to protect me and claim me because he could be beyond possessive.
“Funny, Dora, but honestly, what did you want to talk about?” I asked, not finding her statement a bit funny.
“I wouldn’t joke about something like that.” Dora smiled. I gave her a look that told her I wouldn’t put it past her. She only laughed and shook her head. “Ok, I would joke about something like this, but I’m not. He did tell them that.”
“Even if that is true,” I began with a sigh. “He only marked me because he wanted to protect me.”
“Why didn’t he mark the other girls, then?” Dora asked, when I didn’t answer she continued. “But he knows that Jennifer won’t care if he marked you or not. She’s not going to get her hands dirty.”
“I don’t believe he wants to marry me.” I laughed. “I’m not thinking about getting married or anything. I’m only seventeen.”
“It’s different for us.” Dora said, her voice holding a tone I didn’t understand. “Jay’s the age where pixies are no longer children.”
“Yeah, he’s about to be eighteen.” I responded and shrugged my shoulders. “Right?”
I wasn’t sure if he was really eighteen or if he was just saying he was eighteen. I thought Leon was older then he was, but what about Jay.
“Yes, he will be eighteen, tomorrow.” Dora began to explain. “To you eighteen may be considered an adult, but not really. There are still tons of things you can’t do. But for us once we turn eighteen we gain are full power and are truly considered an adult. More so Jay.”
“Why?”
“Our father is the king of pixies.” She let out almost as if she thought it was funny.
“The king,” I frowned not sure I had heard her right.
“Yes, this a very important time for Jay. He was sent here to prove he could lead the pixies one day.” Dora said, not looking at me anymore. “He had to choose a gate to protect. It didn’t matter which gate, but he had to choose a gate and show he could protected from those who want the power behind the gate. It was very strange that Jay picked Suzaku, the god of fire, since his element is opposite.” Dora frowned and raised an eyebrow. “You do know about the legend of the four gods, right? Jay told you, right?”
“They all told me briefly about it.” I said, trying to remember what they had told me.
I did remember that Jennifer wanted to open the gate and something briefly about Derrick, but nothing too much.
“They told me about the gates and that only a human can open it. But if the gods don’t like the human they will turn them into a succubus or an incubus.”
Dora eyes went wide and then she started to laugh.
“I can’t believe they told you that bullshit and you really believed it.” She said, holding her stomach, laughing really hard.
“I can’t believe I believe their pixies.” I murmured, feeling silly.
“I’m sorry sweetie,” Dora chuckled, wrapping tears from her eyes. “They love to joke around. They must have told you that so you wouldn’t try and find the gate and opened it yourself.”
“I would never have done that.”
“Bonnie, so far you have proven how your curiosity gets you in trouble.” Dora smiled. “If anything pixies have the sexual demon in us. But anyway, no, that won’t happen. But you will die if the God does not like you soul.”
“Okay, so do you think Jennifer wants the power that the gods have?” I asked.
“Think I know she does,” Dora laughed. “I’m not sure if she picked this gate first only to mess with Jay or because she has the power of fire, but I do know she isn’t working alone.”
“Jay thinks she is.”
“Jay gives her too credit.”
“So, you think its Derrick she working with.”
“I not even sure he’s still alive.” I heard her say with a sigh. “But our mother believes he is.”
“If he is alive…..” I trailed off not sure I wanted to finish whatever I was going to say.
“We all are going to be fucked.”
I ran a hand though my hair. “Okay, so humans are going to be slaves and Jennifer is going to kill me. Wow, I’m not even eighteen yet.”
“I won’t let that bitch touch you. You can trust that.” I looked up and saw Dora staring hardly at me. I blinked not understanding why she really cared. “She’s not going to hurt my brother anymore. She is the one killing the people he’s been with for some time now. You may think Jay’s a selfish jerk, and he can be, but he’s not evil. I won’t let him blame himself forever like he does the others.”
“She’s killing all of them, because she loves him.” I blinked, feeling like that was too crazy. She really needed to get out more.
“I think it’s a part of the reason.” Dora let out and then folded her arms. “I know she’s had a thing for Jay for a very long time. Jay may not know that, but I always did. She wanted Jay long before our parents said they would get married one day.”
“He’s engaged!” I yelled.
“Not really,” Dora sighed.
“How can you not really be engaged?” I asked, folding my arms.
“Our parents set this up. He doesn’t love her, never has.” Dora explained. “Besides he isn’t going to marry her and once our parents see that she is the one doing all of this, they won’t let them get married.”
“Jay is engaged and he’s been cheating on her.” I said, still holding on to the fact that he is engaged. “No wondering she is going around killing every girl he dates!”
“Bonnie, he doesn’t love her, she knows that, and he doesn’t want our parents to keep controlling his life.” Dora reasoned.
“That doesn’t…” I paused. How could I begin to say that doesn’t matter? I knew what it felt like to have controlling parents. My mom wanted me to be with Keith. She would probable make me marry him if she had her way. “He doesn’t love her at all.”
“Bonnie, would you love someone who kills any guy you even look at?” Dora smirked. “I’m just lucky. Since Jay is a guy he has to be crowned prince.”
“That doesn’t seem fare. You’re older.”
“I don’t care.” Dora told me, waving a hand. “I don’t want them telling me what to do, who to date and that I need to get married, so I can product more heirs. Yeah right. I love to party.”
“So, Jay has to be the one they tell that stuff too?” I stated.
Dora stared at me and then frowned. It looked like she was thinking over my words. “Yeah, can you believe this is the most freedom he has ever had? Now that he’s eighteen, all of this is going to be coming to an end.”
“So, he will be leaving soon?” I asked with a frown. I tried my best to understand why I felt really sad by that thought.
“Yes, he will need to lead the pixies.” She tried to explain. “Jay will gain the power of water. Pixies use our powers to destroy and fairies use theirs to heal.”
“So, he’s going to go around making floods?” I laughed. An image of Jay standing over the city laughing as he made rain, lighting, and thunder came to my head.
“Don’t be cute.” Dora grinned.
“So, why would he choose to protect fire?” I asked, suddenly wondering why he was even here. If the gate of fire was here shouldn’t he have chosen something like water?
“I’m not really sure. But you should know that soon he will have to choose a wife.” She grinned, evilly. “We may end up being sisters.”
Highly unlikely, I wanted to say. I had a better chance at becoming the fairy queen then ending up marrying Jay.
“Dora, if we end up as sister, I will let you name our first child.” I laughed.
“I wouldn’t take that from you.” Dora laughed. “Just let me give her a middle name so I can call her that inside.”
“Whatever you say,”
I responded with a chuckle. Who said it would be a girl? Wait, why am I even thinking there would be a child?
“Dora, what the fuck,” I saw Nate walk into the room with a huge frown on his face. “Where are all the women at? All I see in there are girls. Why didn’t you at least invite some female teachers?”
“You would really risk someone’s job, Nate?” I asked, shaking my head.
“I wouldn’t have done anything,” Nate shrugged. “But I could at least have some fun.”
“Look, I used enough dust.” Dora frowned. “I didn’t want to have to use so much dust that your ‘women’ wouldn’t say anything about underage drinking! Then I would have to use dust to make sure no one told that there had been adults here and that they said nothing about it. So go out there and find some girl who has grey hair in her head or something!”
“Babe, you can have some grey hair too, just shifted it.” He laughed.
“Shut the hell up! You butt hole.” She laughed, hitting him on the arm.
I laughed at them. It seemed that everyone in the forbidden four, besides Damon, treated Dora like a sister.
I kept smiling watching them then a thought came to my mind.
“Wait, you were supposed to be making sure Damon stayed away from Angelica.” I said to Nate.
“Oh, yeah, one of your friends came and asked her to dance.” Nate said, like he didn’t really care. “You still mad at Damon?”
“Yes,” I said, like he was stupid. “He’s taking my best friend soul and he’s acting like it doesn’t even matter.”
“A man’s got to eat.” Nate said and Dora hit him. “What too soon?”
“Bonnie, don’t worry. Damon will be leaving her alone soon.” Dora grinned.
“He has to. Jay told me that if pixies kiss the same person to often they will start taking years off of the person’s life.” I screamed. I couldn’t let that happen to Ang.
“Are we just telling you everything now?” Nate asked, laughing. “Just because we can’t use our dust on you we have to tell you everything.”
“Well that’s one reason.” Dora smiled, knowingly and ignoring Nate.
“What’s the other one?” I asked.
Dora and Nate looked at each other, and then started laughing.
“Only if she was about twenty years older, Dora.” Nate shook his head. “Since you’re the oldest lady here, dance with me.”
“Sure.” Dora smiled. “But don’t let it go to your head.”
“Keep dreaming, babe.” Nate said, shaking his head.
I stared at them confused.
“Wait, what were you two talking about?” I asked watching them starting to leave the room.
“Come on down to the party.” Dora said, letting Nate lead her back downstairs.
I frowned and followed them.
The party was still going strong it seemed. People were dancing and laughing. Some had even come up to me and thanked me for inviting them.
I had smiled and acted like I had invited them. I pretty much stayed by the food table, eating and drinking. Yet, I was also wondering where on earth Jay was. I hadn’t seen him since he left me with Dora.
So, he couldn’t have been far. I hadn’t been with her that long and I wanted to tell him happy birthday before I left.
My mind then wondered off to what Leon could be doing right now. I hoped that my sister hadn’t been upset that I let him take Luria home.
“Bonnie,” I turned and saw Leon standing by me.
“Hey, was my sister okay with you dropping Luria off?” I asked, feeling nervous. Mary didn’t know Leon. I should have gone with them.
“She was okay.” Leon grinned. “She told me she thought she already knew me. Luria has been talking about me.”
I laughed. “That figures.”
“Jay must be having the time of his life.” Leon said, looking at everyone at the party. “He loves parties.”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I?” I heard Jay say. I looked at him and saw that he looked a bit upset. “Dance with me, Pet.”
I rolled my eyes. He really needed to stop calling me that, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t starting to grow on me. I had never had a ‘pet’ name before.
“I want to go home.” I said, dry. “Schools tomorrow and some of us do go to school.” I looked around and saw that my friends looked like they had left. It was passed nine. If I didn’t get home soon my mom was going to throw a huge fit.
Jay laughed. “I’ll take you home after one dance.”
“I should take her home, you know how your sister will get if you leave.”
Jay frowned and then looked on the dance floor to Dora who was eyeing him like she had heard the whole conversation.
“I don’t care….” He paused, and then sighed. “Fine, you’ll just take her home, right?”
I eyed Jay not liking his tone.
“You know me, Jay.” Leon smiled.
Jay glared at him, and then looked me. “You owe me a dance.” He smirked.
“And maybe one day you’ll get it.” I laughed. “Happy birthday.” I told him, and then did something I couldn’t believe. I hugged him and gave him a light kiss on the cheek.
Jay blinked down at me and I blinked myself.
He was the one who always made the first move so it felt kind of funny. I didn’t fully understand why. It was something very innocent yet when it came to Jay nothing seemed innocent.
“What are you two doing?” Damon asked, walking over to us.
“Nothing,” I frowned and looked away from him.
“Hey, Leon, why don’t you check out what Dora got me?” Jay asked, looking at me.
I wanted to hit him, for trying to leave me alone with Damon.
“Yeah, I’ll be right back, Bonnie.” Leon told me, touching my shoulder, lightly.
I watched them go and hated them both.
“What’s up with them?” Damon asked, lifting up an eyebrow. “Their acting like we’re not friends.”
“Damon, leave me alone,” I told him, not at all kind. “We are anything, but friends.”
“Anything but friends,” He grinned, lifting up an eyebrow. “Well let’s not tell Jay or Leon about this. But maybe later we can put that anything into action.”
“You’re a jerk.” I said, balling my fists. “You better hope I don’t find a bat, because I’m going to break it on your head.” I turned to walk away from him, but felt his hand grabbed my arm. “Don’t touch me.”
“I was only doing it for her protection.” Damon sighed, not looking into my eyes. “Jennifer had been using her and I needed to make sure she stayed safe. I knew you would be upset if she got hurt because of Jennifer. But I made Ang hate me before so I had to win her over the good old finish way. I know you hate us using our dust on people. I was just trying to be her friend and protect her, for you.”
“You’re not lying are you?” I asked, wanting to believe him.
“Why would I lie?” He questioned back. I just stared at him thinking he was right. He had no need to lie to me. It wasn’t like he cared about what I thought of him. He must have taken my silence to mean I still didn’t believe him because he sighed. “Listen, just because I like you doesn’t mean I’m going to lie and tell you what I think you want to hear.” He growled.
“You like me?” I blinked, confused.
“Look, I told you the truth so stop acting like I’m some demon from hell.” Damon frowned and let me go.
“Thank you for protecting her.” I said to him and then looked up into his eyes. I noticed just how beautiful his dark eyes were. You really could get lost in them, if you let yourself. “But I’m still mad at you for even using your dust on her in the first place.”
Damon grinned and moved some hair from face. “That’s why I like you. You always speak your mind.”
He stared at me with this smile that made me feel funny. It reminded me of a smile Jay had given me when he would think I wasn’t paying attention. It was like a cat
at the mouse whole look.
Before I could think of a response I saw Leon walking over to us.
“Bonnie, you ready to go home?” He asked.
I gave one last look at Damon and shook my head.
Riding home with Leon felt like I was on a roll coaster. His driving was great, but my emotions were going all over the place.
I had been with Jay and felt like I could see something between us, yet it was my feelings for Leon that held me back.
Did Leon even see something with us?
Jay saw a future for us, but I needed to know where I stood with Leon.
I was being stupid. There was an evil pixie trying to kill me and yet I was sitting across from a boy wondering if he liked me or not.
“A thought for a thought,” I heard Leon say. I turned to look at him and saw the moonlight had caught onto his hair. His pale blonde hair looked stunting under the light.
At that moment I noticed that everything about him was pale. His skin, hair, and even his eyes, were all pale.
Unlike Jay.
Jay glowed. He was like a bright light of golden perfection. He had glowing golden-tanned skin, beautiful brown-gold hair, and eyes that would turn golden.
They were so unlike, but that was what I liked about the both of them.
“Why not?” I shrugged and turned fully in my seat. “What are you thinking?”
“That I didn’t think you could look even more beautiful then you already did.” Leon began, his cheeks turning red. “You look like an angel in the moonlight.” My eyes widen with shock, but he must have taken it as something else. “Not that you didn’t ever look like an angel before.” He murmured, nervously. “I didn’t mean it as….”
“Leon, I wondering what you thought of me,” I told him cutting him off.
I was surprise that I had just come out and said it. I kind of felt guilty doing this. After everything Jay and I had said I was thinking about what Leon thought of me.
I felt like I was cheating.
Leon slowed the car down and I noticed that we were in front of my house. I didn’t even make a move to the door.
He turned to look at me. His grey eyes almost looked like they had flickers of violet in them. They looked beautiful.
