She’s in the stall when I arrive. Leaning down, I check for others, the place is empty.

“Fiona,” I say, unable to muffle the cheeriness in my tone. I’m loving that it is her stuck, for once. “I wanted to thank you for trying but failing to ruin our marriage. If I thought things were great before you snuck into his bed, I was wrong. We are stronger than ever, more in love than ever. When we made these babies, it was my name he called out, and it will be my name he calls out tonight, and every night...well, that’s all. Have a nice life.”

I hear her huff inside the stall, but she doesn’t say a word.

She knows she lost, not that I think she cares, not that I care.

I really don’t, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to let her know it.

  Chapter Twenty-Five

Smiling, my eyes sweep the guests seated at our dining table: my in-laws, Leo, Mel, everyone we hold dear—they’re all here to celebrate my man, the love of my life. My eyes connect with Leo, he shoots me a nervous frown, swallowing hard as he rises and clinks his glass to toast.

“Eric, I wanted to say how happy I am to have you in my life again. You’re my family, bro, and I love you. Cheers.” We all rise and stretch over the table clinking glasses. Everyone sits, but Leo remains standing and turns to Mel, then drops to one knee in front of her.

“What?” she hisses, raising a hand to cover her gaping mouth.

“Mel, you’re everything I never knew I needed. I’m so in love with you…” His voice cracks, but he clears his throat, determined to finish. “Will you marry me, raise a family with me?”

Mel bursts into tears, nodding as Leo cracks the lid to the ring box, revealing a massive solitaire. He places the ring on her finger, takes her hand, pulling her up and into his arms, kissing her hard. He pulls back, grinning. “On to the next part of the evening.” He looks to me, signaling my move.

“Mel, you need to come with me.” Reaching out, I take her hand, her eyes search mine. “Nope, it’s a surprise.”

“But it’s not my birthday,” she whispers, looking to Eric, not wanting to take from his day. Ignoring her questions, I lead her up to the guest bedroom.

The door closes and she spins, hand on hip and all southern sass. “What is going on?”

Giggling, I take her hands and shake her arms—I’m bursting with excitement. “You’re getting married!”

“Yeah, I know…” Her eyes are on me, still not getting it. I spin her towards the closet door, where her mom’s wedding dress is hanging. Her head tilts, and she pauses for a moment. “You’re kidding me?”

  “Nope.” I giggle some more.

She moves to the bed, slumping down, not taking her eyes off the gown. “This is happening tonight, isn’t it?”

  “Yup.”

The shock disappears from her face as a smile emerges and her eyes light up. “No better time…How?”

“Well, you know Leo—once he made up his mind to marry you, we couldn’t stop him, and you know how I love to throw parties. We thought tonight would be perfect—you’d never suspect a thing.”

“Oh, honey, I had no idea.” Grinning, she nods towards the dress. “What if it doesn’t fit?”

I laugh, shaking my head. “Your mama assures me it will—she’s had it altered.”

A knock on the door, breaks up our conversation. Moving to open it, I sweep my arm, welcoming Mel’s mama and little sister into the room. They chatter their way over to Mel and hug. I’m delighted that Mel is okay with this, there was a smidgen of doubt in the back of my mind. “I’ll just leave y’all to it. See you in an hour.”

The lantern light on the deck sets the perfect mood for the ceremony. The workers swooped in and out within minutes, transforming our backyard. White chairs line the path, and dozens of Calla lilies in large white vases mark the spot where our besties will say their vows. Eric swoops up behind me, taking me into his arms, his hands moving to cradle my belly.

“It’s time,” he says, kissing my neck.

Leo appears, and he and Eric move to their positions, and I go in search of Mel.

She’s standing inside, waiting, the nervousness and glowing smile the perfect complement to her stunning gown. As we wait for the guests to be seated, the music starts and Mel reaches out to grab my arm.

  “What is it?” I say.

“This couldn’t have been any more perfect. Thank you.” Tears glass her doe eyes.

I raise a finger, shaking it at her. “No tears, not yet.”

She nods and straightens, prepared to meet her groom. Leading the way, I walk down the aisle, my eyes fixed on Eric, his smile beaming.

Despite the ups and downs of the past few months, we are stronger, united. Life just keeps moving, and you make the choice to fight for what you want or you lose.

I chose to fight, and I’m so happy I did.

Taking my place at the altar, I watch as our besties join hands, prepared to move forward after devastating loss. They’re love is palpable, intense. We were all so blessed to meet the loves of our lives in college.

Eric winks at me, I muffle a giggle.

In this moment, I know that no matter what comes our way, we’ll make it, because after a storm, there is always a rainbow.

  Sexy Bits

“This is ridiculous. You totally lied, Jess!” I say to my best friend as we strip out of our clothes. I swear, I’ve never been this close to punching her in all the eight years that we have been friends.

“It was your idea, Claire,” Jess points out with a casual don’t-give-a-fuck shrug. “I just made it awesome…”

I gape at her, shaking my head at her audacity. “How does agreeing to go on an island vacation equate to flying to Dominican to stay at an exclusive, nude, adult sex resort?”

“You said you wanted to try a nude beach. I just added a bit of adventure to this holiday. Plus, it’s a secluded resort that caters to singles, so we will be safe.”

Truthfully, I did say I wanted to try a nude beach, that was totally my idea, but I expected to spend an afternoon or two on a nude beach. What I didn’t expect was my best friend booking a vacation at an adult sex resort that is all nudity, all the time. Basically, this place is a nudist and fetish resort all in one.

I knew something wasn’t right when we were picked up from the airport by a mouthwatering, blonde, buff, surfer-type, limo driver, wearing nothing but a tight pair of denim cutoffs and flip flops. He wasn’t like any limo driver I had ever seen, so I knew something was up. I forced Jess to admit what she had done, to my complete dismay.

This is so far out of my comfort zone that I’m not sure I will return in one piece. I’m terrified, to say the least, because I have never done anything this wild. The worst part is that I will probably be the only virgin here.

What the hell was Jess thinking?

I should never have said I wanted to try a nude beach.

I should never have handed over my credit card, in good faith.

I know what she’s like, so I guess the only one to blame here is me. When will I learn to keep my big mouth shut? Now here I am, a twenty-three-year-old virgin at a nude sex resort.

  Awesome!

I don’t think being a virgin is a bad thing, but Jess treats it like a plague on my existence and is constantly trying to introduce me to situations or loser guys, hoping that I will finally give it up.

I’m not hanging on to my v-card for any particular reason. It’s just that I haven’t met someone who is worth the time, nor have I had the desire to go through with it.

I almost gave it up recently, but thankfully it didn’t happen because he turned out to be a lying douchebag, who broke up with me via text for not putting out. You know, because we had gone on three whole dates and I was acting like a prude. Asshole!

The asshole’s name is Chad, and I had been crushed because I actually really liked him. Chad’s hot, and the funny thing is, that I actually considered sleeping with him. If he hadn’t been an impatient shit, he would have totally gotten the goods.

Jess is always there for me whenever some jerk messes with my heart. There have been too many jerks to count. My virginity is the ultimate prize, never mind that I may actually have feelings. Who cares about integrity, anyway?

  I do. Apparently, that’s a problem.

This trip is Jess’s version of trying to help me forget my bruised ego. Truthfully, her go big or go home attitude has rubbed off on me, and I can honestly say that I’m a lot more outgoing than I have ever been. A best-friend like Jess will do that for anyone.

Jess knows I have issues with self-esteem, not that she knows what that’s all about. I love her, but she has more confidence than a horny rooster in a hen house. Technically, this resort is her version of a hen house.

My bestie oozes charisma, and since she resembles a Brazilian goddess from Amazonia, she turns heads all the time. I’m more like her hippie shadow. No one ever notices me.

“We can turn back, anytime,” Jess says, eyeing me.

Yeah right. Like we have any other option since we both maxed our credit cards for this vacation. We’re stuck here for the whole week. I shake my head, swallowing the giant nervous lump in my throat.

“I can’t believe we have to be naked the whole time. I’m not sure if I can go through with this,” I say, looking around the impeccably sterile bathroom as if looking for an escape.

  There is no escape.

Accepting my shitty fate, I sigh, skimming the sign beside the door for the fifteenth time.

  Desire by Design Adult Resort

No clothing, cellular phones, laptops, tablets, or cameras allowed beyond this point.

Items in locker are left at owner’s risk.

“You’ll be fine,” Jess says, beaming and not even trying to contain her excitement. “This is our last vacation for a long time and the perfect place for you to forget about that prick, Chad.”

I’m too stressed about strutting around naked to even think about Chad. He’s dead to me. Sighing with resolve, I look back at Jess, “No judgement?”

“No judgement,” Jess agrees, posing fully nude before me—proud as peacock and so confident that I feel like an imp beside her.

I can do this, I think.

It should console me, knowing that I brought the perfect person on this vacation. Jess is in her element, but I’m pretty sure I’m about to walk through the gates of Hell.

No one’s going to notice me anyway. Jess’s stunning five-foot-ten-inch exceptionally toned and perfectly tanned body, big breasts, and waist-length black hair promise to steal the show, garnering her a great deal of attention. People would far rather stare at her than me. I’d rather stare at her than me.

Okay, so I’m not a lesbian, and I’m not a dog either, but I am definitely not bombshell material. I’d settle for cute as a compliment any day. I’m ordinary in comparison to Jess. My unruly curly auburn hair hangs long enough that the locks will just cover my barely-b-cup breasts, if pulled over my shoulders. Unfortunately, everything else will be exposed.

Cringing, I remove my sundress and underwear, while still wearing my boots. I love these boots. Sexy, brown, leather, three-quarter-length, three-inch heels, that don’t make my feet scream for mercy. Who wouldn’t love them? I’m not leaving them behind.

As if reading my mind, Jess laughs and says, “Boots too. Do you really want to be the nude chick marching around a tropical resort wearing boots?”

Every porno I’d ever watched, plays through my mind. Okay, so I’ve never actually watched a porno, but most of the actresses’ wear heels of some kind, right? Jess is wearing a sexy red patent strappy sandal, so why can’t I wear my boots? I leave them on, defiantly raising my chin in the air.

“I’m keeping them on. They make me feel sexy. I think it will help with my nerves. Plus, I have flip flops and sandals in my bag,” I say, sheepishly looking away.

“You’re on an island resort in tropical heat. Your feet will sweat buckets in those things. Honestly, I don’t know why you would have even brought them. You’re definitely not going to need them.” Jess has a point, but I remain unmoved.

If people are staring at my boots, then they’re not staring at my naked ass.

“Whatever. I love these boots! Besides, I don’t actually care what anyone thinks,” I lie. I totally care, and Jess knows it.

Scanning my profile in the mirror, I hope I’ve applied enough makeup to draw eyes to my face instead of other places, without looking like a painted whore. I rarely wear makeup, but I did put the effort into my appearance today. Thankfully, I brought plenty of product for this trip. I don’t need much. My pale freckled skin always has a slight blush to it, so I didn’t need to apply
blush, and I hate covering up my freckles. It looks so silly having a clear pale face when the rest of me is freckled, the curse most redheads have to endure.

I do love my eyes. They’re hazel and thanks to a slash of mascara and rose eyeshadow they pop. Reaching into my bag, I retrieve a tube of Poison Berry Lip Juice and smooth it across my lips. I grab a tissue to smooth the lines and then run my hands through my hair, dragging it over my shoulders to ensure that it covers my breasts. The humidity means that my thick, wavy, but not in a fun way, auburn hair should hit full-on frizz, by this time tomorrow. Hopefully my army of hair products will help tame it.

I scan my body and frown. I’m not normally this insecure, but knowing that my private bits will be on display for seven whole days, makes me cringe. I’m pretty sure most people would feel the same.

“Stop stalling. You look fine—you’ll be fine,” Jess says, dryly. She knows me so well. “Honestly, you worry for nothing. I thought you wanted to become more secure with your body? I’m willing to bet that the people outside that door are more concerned with their own bodies to even consider judging anybody else.” Jess fluffs her hair, grabs her carry-on, and reaches for the door handle. “Let’s do this.”

I nod and follow behind her, trying not to look at her naked ass. How can I spend a week here without staring at naked bodies and comparing them to myself? I force my chin up and my eyes stare at the back of Jess’s silky black mane that hangs like a cape down her back. She didn’t even try to cover her breasts with it.

Yes, I know that I bring this insecurity on myself because I am fiercely introverted. I think that’s why I love Jess so much. She lives life for both of us, and I am happy to hide quietly in her shadows, especially today.

Maybe the boots were a bad idea. With them on, I’m only slightly shorter than Jess, making it difficult for me to cower behind her.

As we walk down the hall, my stomach flops all over, threatening my senses. I breathe deeply, trying to focus. My stomach clenches as my insides rumble—I want to puke, but I swallow hard, holding it back. Jess pushes the door to the lobby open and we walk through.
