Colt's Crisis Page 32

“Not this time, Dimitri. There will be no typical prisoner exchange or media interviews, not with everything we now know of your history of deceit, espionage, and murder. And with your recent attempt on my son’s life, you crossed a line. You belong to us now. As we speak, your Honda is being driven to Port Angeles, where it will be parked across the street from the ferry terminal. In the back seat is the dead body of Sara Olson with a bullet in her chest and a pistol beside her with your fingerprints on it. Security cameras will show that a man closely fitting your description exited your car and boarded the ferry bound for Victoria, Canada. The same man, carrying your travel documents, will pass through Canadian immigration and customs control, then never be seen again. To the rest of the world, you will no longer exist.”

“You bastard!” Petrov seethed. “You had Sara killed?” He attempted to get up, but the men surrounding him suddenly stood up and pushed him forcefully back into his seat. “Relax, Colonel,” Colt said. “You won’t not leaving this plane for several hours. And your next stop will be a facility which we maintain just to interview and hold animals like you. I don’t believe you will ever see the sky again, and I certainly doubt you will be missed by anyone.”

Colt turned to leave the plane, but Petrov shouted after him, “You can’t do this to me, Garrett! You won’t get away with this! Who do you think you are??!!”

Colt took a deep breath, turned back to face an enraged Petrov, and said, calmly, “I’m sorry, Dimitri, but I just did . . . oh, yes I will . . . and I know exactly who I am.”

And with that, Colt Garrett, United States Secretary of Defense, exited the plane, stepped down the stairs, and walked to the waiting Blackhawk.
