The Quarterback Page 28

Besides, there was no one else he wanted to share the moment with. He deserved a fucking victory kiss. So he planted a hard one on his boyfriend, then Matt pulled back with a huge smile.

Trevor pressed his forehead against Matt’s. “You’re insane.”

Matt laughed, then turned to his sisters, ignoring the shocked stares around him. He hugged Hope and Summer, then let himself be swept away to speak to reporters.

The first reporter looked like it was Christmas morning—the kiss had definitely been noticed. “Well, I guess that answers that,” the reporter said to the camera. “Matt Lancaster is gay. Matt, what do you have to say to your fans?” He shoved the microphone toward Matt.

Matt just calmly smiled and then purposefully ignored the reporter’s words. “Yes, I agree, Minnesota played an impressive game tonight. We just looked for opportunities to get past their defense. They didn’t make it easy, but my team played hard. They’re amazing. I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished here tonight.”

“Uh, right, yes, of course,” the reporter replied, trying to pull it together. “Is it true this was your last game? You’re retiring?”

“I don’t think of it as retiring.” Matt shrugged. “I’m just graduating. And, hopefully, I’ll find a job with my degree. It’s environmental science if anyone’s hiring,” he added with a winning grin.

“Well, good luck to you. Great game tonight. Congratulations,” the reporter concluded.

Matt nodded, waved to his fans, and headed back onto the field to celebrate with his team. He wasn’t ready to head back to the locker room. He wanted to savor the victory for a good long while. He felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders.

He knew it would come crashing down soon. But for the moment, he could push it away.

Trevor was glad Drew and Emily had taken him out for drinks while Matt finished up, well, whatever the hell he had to do. Probably more press and handshaking and celebrating. Trevor had avoided reading any media. He didn’t want the perfect moment of their kiss to be marred by the gay bashing that was probably happening.

Matt had texted fifteen minutes ago that he was done celebrating with the team and getting in a Lyft. He’d typed: Getting awkward. Yup, his team might have missed the kiss on the field, but they’d certainly seen a replay of it by now.

Trevor entered their hotel room, only having time to flip on a lamp and take a leak before he heard the door open again. He turned just in time for Matt to slam into him, pressing him against the wall, his mouth wet and hot and desperate as he kissed Trevor. He thrust his tongue inside, his fingers sinking into Trevor’s hair. A second later, Matt reached down and unzipped Trevor’s pants, then spun him to face the wall.

“Oh, damn,” Trevor cursed, bracing himself with his hands against the wall. A second later, his ass was bare. He heard Matt unzip his own pants, open a bottle of lube and condom from god knew where, and then he was slicking up Trevor’s hole.

Matt braced one hand on Trevor’s hip. “You want it?” he growled.

“Fuck yes,” Trevor gasped, bucking his ass backward.

Matt lined himself up and pushed inside.

“Oh shit,” Trevor hissed, the burn and stretch stinging.

Matt wrapped his free arm around Trevor’s waist, pulling him tighter as Matt slid all the way in. Trevor groaned when Matt was fully seated.

  “You okay?” Matt asked.

Trevor bit his lip, adjusting for just a second, but he wanted it. He wanted it hard and rough and fast. So he clenched his ass, and that was all the answer Matt needed.

Matt pulled out and slammed back in. His thrusts deep, his balls slamming against Trevor’s ass. Matt kept his left hand on Trevor’s hip, but moved his right one to grab Trevor’s wrists in one hand and pin them to the wall. Trevor was almost as tall as Matt, so he didn’t usually feel so small. But right now, he was being dominated by the quarterback.

Trevor heard himself grunt and moan, taking it all, loving it. Matt bit into the nape of his neck, and Trevor dropped his head forward, letting Matt pound into him.

“That’s it, take it, baby. Take it,” Matt said with each furious thrust. Fucking him harder than he ever had before. So damn good. Trevor wanted his man to let loose like this more often.

And then Trevor felt Matt’s hand clench around his wrists even more tightly as he came. “Ah-fuck-fuck-fuck,” Matt cursed, and Trevor imagined he felt Matt’s hot come filling his ass. Trevor squeezed his muscles, milking every drop out of him until Matt sagged against him.

Matt took a few breaths to recover, then he suddenly dropped to his knees, spread open Trevor’s ass cheeks, and tongued his hole.

“Oh god,” Trevor practically whimpered in pleasure. Filthy, dirty pleasure.

Matt reached his hand around to stroke Trevor’s still rock-hard dick, but Trevor yanked his hand away. “No, I want to come inside you.”

Matt groaned, licked Trevor’s hole one more time, then stood. “Yes, sir.”

Trevor almost came right then. From dominant to submissive in a second. He could handle that. “Get on the fucking bed,” he commanded Matt.

Matt turned and noticed the hanging bed for the first time. “Shit,” he said.

“On your back, leg up,” Trevor snapped, his cock red and straining. He needed inside Matt. Now. Trevor shook the chain at the bottom right of the bed, showing Matt where to place his leg.

Matt flopped onto his back at the edge of the mattress, lifted his left leg to hook against the chain, exposing himself. Trevor slid on a condom, grabbed the lube, poured some on his dick, on Matt’s hole, and then shoved one finger inside.

Matt bucked and groaned. A second later, Trevor added a second finger, stretching him just enough, before lining up his cock. He gave a sharp slap to Matt’s ass, then another, then pushed inside.

Matt’s hole relaxed a little, letting Trevor inside, and Matt hissed at the burn. Trevor paused, letting him adjust for a moment. “That’s a good boy,” Trevor said, leaning down and sucking Matt’s bottom lip into his mouth. “Take my cock.”

Matt moaned. Trevor pushed farther inside of him. Then Trevor grabbed the chain with his right hand, braced himself, and started plowing into Matt.

It was harder and deeper than the other few times Matt had bottomed, but Trevor could tell he loved it.

Matt didn’t want to make love. He wanted to be fucked.

The bed swung forward and backward with each of Trevor’s thrusts, and he started to fuck in contrast to the movement. Slamming in as Matt swung toward him.

Matt’s dick twitched, trying to recover, but it didn’t matter. His prostate was being slammed, and he moaned, letting Trevor know it felt so fucking good, almost too much.

Trevor gripped the chain of the bed tighter, wrapping his hand partly around Matt’s braced foot, getting an even better angle. Matt curled his toes, and Trevor suddenly remembered the survey in the massage parlor. He leaned forward and sucked Matt’s big toe into his mouth.

“Oh shit,” Matt gasped, bucking his hips.

Trevor grinned wickedly and sucked harder as Matt urged him on. Then he pulled back and licked the arch of Matt’s foot. Matt whimpered. The sound almost pushing Trevor over the edge.

Trevor lifted Matt’s other leg and pounded into him hard, so fucking hard the bed rocked like crazy.

“Fucking. Take. It,” Trevor grunted out, and then with one more thrust, he came, his eyes squeezing shut as his orgasm hit. Trevor fell forward, burying his face against Matt’s shoulder. He jerked and spasmed, riding out his orgasm. Matt wrapped his arms around Trevor and held him tight.

“You okay?” Trevor finally whispered, his lips brushing against Matt’s sweaty chest. “Did I break you?”

Matt laughed. “I’m a fucking football god, you can’t break me.”

Trevor groaned at the comment, then carefully pulled out of Matt’s ass. He leaned up and kissed him on the lips.

“But did we break the be
d?” Matt asked.

“No, I think they expect people to fuck on it,” Trevor replied. Then he rolled on his side, and turned to Matt, suddenly serious. “You didn’t have to do that.”

“Yes, I really did,” Matt countered. “I was just so damn afraid, and then once we won, it was all over, and I felt . . . I don’t know . . . this sounds stupid, but free, I guess.”

“I get it,” Trevor said, kissing Matt sweetly. “Thanks.”

“I love you,” Matt replied. “And I got your text at halftime.”

“Oh yeah? Totally made you win, didn’t I?”

Matt laughed and smacked his ass. “Sure, you did all the work.”

Trevor smiled and grabbed a pillow to tuck under his head. There was more he wanted to say, but maybe it was too fast. On the other hand, they’d already gone pretty far today, so what the hell?

  “So, listen,” Trevor began. “I was thinking . . . California’s in a drought.”

Matt scrunched up his brow in confusion. “Okay . . .”

“And you like your water rights class. And you’ve mentioned environmental consulting. California’s on the cutting edge for clean energy and green building.”

Matt started to smile. “Oh yeah?”

“Yeah.” Trevor nodded. “And your sisters did get into Berkeley.”

“That’s true,” Matt said, nodding along. “So, I mean, it might just be logical to look in the Bay Area for a job.”

“It’s the practical thing to do,” Trevor deadpanned.

“It’d be irresponsible not to,” Matt added with a smirk.

Trevor laughed. Holy shit. Matt had gone from not wanting to acknowledge him to moving to California. Yeah, this was a good night.

“Come on,” Trevor said, hauling Matt up.

“Where are we going?” Matt groaned.

Trevor didn’t answer. He just led Matt to the bathroom and turned on the monstrous shower.

“Oh fuck yes,” Matt said, stepping under the hot water to sooth his sore muscles.

Trevor joined him, angling all the body sprays so they hit just right.

“You spoiling me?” Matt asked, looking around to truly appreciate the fancy marble shower and clear glass.

“Maybe.” Trevor motioned to the bench. “Bend over.”

“What? Why?” Matt asked, but Trevor just pushed him over. And then he lowered himself to his knees and starting eating Matt out, cleaning him up with his tongue.

Matt whimpered. “I thought maybe you’d think what I did was gross.”

“Hot. It was hot,” Trevor replied, then licked his way up Matt’s spine. “So was that an I’m-angry-at-the-homophobic-world-fuck or a celebratory fuck?”

“Fuck the world.” Matt turned around and pulled Trevor into his arms. “I just won the National Championship. They can say whatever the hell they want about me, but they can’t deny that,” he added on a whisper.

“What about the backlash?” Trevor whispered back.

Matt shrugged. “It’ll blow over eventually. Besides, you’re right. It might help other gay athletes. It was worth it.”

“You’re such a good person. It’s kind of disgusting,” Trevor said dryly.

“I am so, so sorry you’re stuck with me,” Matt mock commiserated. “Now will you massage my muscles? Everything hurts.” He pouted.

Trevor laughed and grabbed the soap.

Trevor sat next to the Christmas tree as Summer and Hope ripped the wrapping paper off their gifts. Trevor had gotten them cool bracelets from a local jewelry designer. Apparently, he had taste and wasn’t supposed to disappoint them.

From their huge smiles, he’d done well. They slid over to hug him.

“Thank you, thank you,” they said in stereo. Then Summer grabbed two matching gifts and passed them to Matt and Trevor. “Your turns,” they singsonged. “Something to commemorate your big victory moment.”

“Oh, this can’t be good,” Matt said, shaking his head.

Trevor agreed. The kiss had gone viral. While Summer and Hope had been reading every article and watching every clip, Matt and Trevor had been avoiding it. They’d spent the night at the hotel, then headed to Aunt Sally and Uncle Larry’s for Christmas. Reporters had gotten Matt’s cell phone number, so he’d turned it off two days ago. They’d been hunkered down ever since.

“Just open it,” Hope commanded when they both hesitated.

Trevor and Matt dutifully ripped off the paper. They both had framed photographs of their kiss on the field, featured by none other than Sports Illustrated.

  “Shit, really?” Matt said.

“It was on their website,” Hope explained. “Not like their actual magazine, but it might be.”

“They wrote a whole article,” Summer said. “And it’s cool. Really cool. You should read it.”

“Thanks, guys,” Trevor said. It was surreal seeing the kiss in a photograph. It had actually happened. And it looked almost normal. Like a victory kiss that a quarterback would give his gal after a big win. Except Trevor happened to be a guy.

“I think it’s nice,” Aunt Sally said. “You can each have one in your dorm room.”

“What about when we live together?” Matt asked.

“Live together?” Uncle Larry said, sitting upright from where he’d half fallen into a food coma.

Trevor also looked at him in surprise. They hadn’t talked about Matt moving to California since the night of the big game, and they certainly hadn’t talked about moving in together once they were there. He’d hoped, but still . . .

“I finally checked my email today,” Matt explained. “And there was a message from an LGBTQ Athletic Summer Camp. They want me to work for them this summer, coaching football. And,” he added, turning to look at Trevor, “it’s in Berkeley.”

  “California?” Uncle Larry said.

“Yup,” Matt confirmed, but he was still looking at Trevor. “And I hear rent is crazy expensive, so . . . if you need a roommate . . .”

Trevor leaned forward and pecked him on the lips. “Yes. Hell yes,” he whispered. Did Matt really have to tell him in front of everyone? He wanted to do a whole lot more than plant a peck on him. But Matt apparently was all for dramatic public displays these days.

“Well, that’s amazing dear,” Aunt Sally replied, filling in as Uncle Larry processed this new information. “Will it be a full-time job?”

Matt shook his head. “No, just the summer. It’s part of a larger foundation, though, so I might keep doing some work for them. And the man who runs it said he knows a few green consulting companies in the area I might like to work for.”

“And . . .” Summer said with big wide eyes, urging him on.

Matt stared at her in confusion. “And . . .?” Clearly, he had no idea what she was hinting at.

“He also got offered a modeling gig for this jockstrap line,” Hope practically shouted.

“What? No, I didn’t!” Matt snapped back.

Hope rolled her eyes. “If you’d check your Twitter . . .” She opened hers and scrolled to the tweet at Matt offering him the job. It was a new company, small, but Trevor had heard of them. Their merchandise was hot, and very popular with the gay community.

“No way,” Matt said, rereading the tweet.

“You’d be modeling in your underwear?” Uncle Larry asked dubiously, shaking his head. “I don’t know about that. Seems a bit . . . exposed. Sleazy.”

“They’re offering him thirty thousand dollars,” Summer countered.

“Oh, well then, take the gig, kid,” Uncle Larry replied. “Anyone want another drink?”

Aunt Sally and Trevor locked eyes with each other, and then busted out laughing.

  “What?” Larry asked defensively.

“Nothing, dear. I’d love some more eggnog,” Aunt Sally said, getting her amusement under control.

“You have inside jokes with my aunt now?” Matt asked Trevor as Uncle Larry lumbered into the kitchen.

  “She loves me.” Trevor shru
gged.

  “I love you,” Matt replied.

“Yes, the whole fricking world knows,” Trevor said, waving a hand at the Sports Illustrated cover. “You’ve made me into a gay icon. I hate you.”

“Oh please, no one cares about you. I’m the star.” Matt shrugged.

Trevor shook his head and tried not to laugh. His boyfriend was an idiot. A brave idiot. And he loved him.

Matt checked himself in the mirror one more time. He was wearing a white shirt with snaps down the front, the sleeves rolled, and tight dark jeans. Nothing flashy, but it worked.

“You ready?” Matt hollered to Trevor.

“Almost!” Trevor called back from the bathroom.

They were living in a small one-bedroom in the Castro, the gay neighborhood of San Francisco. Well, most of San Francisco was considered a “gay neighborhood,” but this was the heart of the gay mecca. Their apartment was tiny, but crazy expensive. And still they could only afford it because one of Trevor’s coworkers owned it, and he’d given them a good deal. But it was totally worth the lack of square footage, because they were within walking distance of amazing shops, bars, and clubs.

“Do you want a drink before we go?” he asked Trevor.

“Hell yeah,” Trevor affirmed. “Let’s do shots, so we don’t go broke buying them at the club.”

Matt smiled, edging his way around their boxes, heading toward the kitchen. They’d arrived in San Francisco a week ago, but had immediately started their jobs, so most of their boxes were still packed. This would be their first night out on the town. They were meeting up with some of Matt’s friends from the LGBTQ Camp. One week in and he already had new friends.

Trevor was excited about his job too, but he felt a bit overwhelmed. He’d done a ton of research before starting, but he said he still had a lot to learn about the gaming industry. Trevor’s boss had a Harvard MBA, and he’d been a bit worried she might talk over his head, but so far, she’d been amazing.

“Okay, let’s do this,” Trevor said, coming down the hallway.
