“Where is the whiskey you bought in Ireland last week, mate?” Mark calls from the kitchen.
“Try the liquor cupboard, idiot,” Luka calls back to him.
Mark has become a permanent fixture in Luka’s life since they reconnected again in September. Whenever they are both free, they get together and hang out. Mark has been travelling out to join Luka at various spots on tour, being the supportive best friend. They don’t talk about what happened with Ellie, but he regularly weighs in on the Jess topic - like getting Luka’s brothers to ambush him. He thinks Luka has been an idiot not even talking to her and getting to the bottom of the situation. He thinks Luka has put his insecurities on her and despite a few mistakes on her part she was genuine in her feelings for him.
“Here you go.” Mark hands Luka a glass. “What are you mulling over here? You’ve gone all serious again. Or do I really need to ask?”
“No, you don’t.” Luka sighs and gulps the whiskey, its searing heat soothing as it goes down.
“You know, you need to either move on or speak to her already. It’s been months. This limbo you’re in is ridiculous,” Mark says, not for the first time.
“I know, I don’t know if I can trust her.”
As he finishes speaking Mark throws a folded piece of paper down in front of him. The letter Jess left for him that he put in the bin.
“Maybe now you’re ready to read this?” is all he says.
Luka reaches for that piece of paper, his hand shaking, and opens it.
--!--
“Why did you wait until now to give it to me? And how did you get it?” Luka asks after reading it several times.
“It was in the top of the bin when I came over about a week after you guys split. You must have just received it. When I read it and saw what she was saying, I knew you hadn’t read it, so I decided to hold onto it until you were ready. As for now, you are a bloody mess, you need her, and my guess from when I saw her last, she needs you.”
“You’ve seen her?” Luka looks up
“I’ve checked in on her whenever I’ve come to see you. That girl doesn’t have too many people in her corner, and she is crazy in love with you. I have no idea how you can’t see it.”
Luka nods and glances at the letter again, guilt flooding him for not reading it sooner and knowing Mark is right; he wouldn’t have digested it the same way earlier when he was so consumed with jealousy and fear.
“You won’t know what possibilities you two have if you don’t talk to her, mate. Seriously, this has got ridiculous. I understood you needed some space when she told you, that you needed to cool down, but this happened in September. She tried everything to get you to talk to her and you ignored her.” Luka nods, this lecture is not new. “None of this would matter, except you are miserable. Here you are, it’s almost Christmas and you are still nursing a broken heart. I doubt you were this torn up over Ellie?”
Luka shakes his head and chuckles. Mark really hit the nail on the head with that one. “No, I was pissed off about Ellie because she fucked our friendship up.”
Mark smiles and punches him in the arm. “You bloody great softie! Anyway, point is, you are obviously in love with Jess, still in love with her, you can’t arse about with that shit. And I’m bored with having this conversation with you. You’re no fun anymore. Now, come on, down that, we’re going out.” He nods to Luka’s whiskey, downs his own, jumps to his feet and gestures for Luka to follow. While Mark keeps telling Luka to sort things out with Jess, he does love them both being single again.
They head out to a local bar. When the men arrive, Mark waves Luka to a booth where Paul and Eric are waiting: it’s another ambush.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Jess
Jess can’t believe that it’s been two months since she has spoken to Luka. After that mess with Ade, Luka dropped off the radar, wouldn’t talk to her. She has got on to the best of her ability; her depression has been hitting hard though. She is back in therapy and finding it really helpful; she’s learned in the past few months how resilient she is and how much she can cope with which is something she never even dreamed possible.
She removed the unprofessional pink from her hair and found a new job so is not beholden to Ade, and although she loves it she is struggling with having little to no interest in anything because of the depression. She hasn’t seen Katie and Jay for weeks now, but Luka’s friend Mark pops in and checks on her whenever he is visiting Luka. He seems really nice and genuinely concerned for her. He tells her every time he sees her that she needs to try again with Luka, but she has received the silent treatment from Luka loud and clear - he is not interested in anything she has to say, and whatever they had is over. As this thought crosses her mind again, a tear runs down her face. She wipes it away and pours a large glass of wine, taking a big gulp and reminds herself of her positive affirmation this week.
“I love life and life loves me, I love life and life loves me.” Hah what bollocks, life fucking hates me she thinks to herself.
Taking another gulp of her wine, her eyes well with tears again and she goes to sit down when there is a knock on the door. She hesitates to answer, then decides the company is probably a good thing right now.
Glass in hand, she walks to the door. Opening it, the last person she expected is standing on the other side.
Luka, in jeans, and a black tee, is standing at her door, his arms folded against his chest. He smiles at her; damn, those dimples get her every time. She is so shocked she forgets to wipe the tears away from her eyes and stands staring at him in a stunned silence.
“Hi Jess,” he says.
“Luka?” Jess responds. She’s terrified what this could mean, what he could want.
“Could we talk? I know I’ve left it a long time, too long probably but I was hoping.” His lips turn up in a hesitant smile and he reaches forward and wipes the tears from her eyes, sending a spark of awareness through her body.
Jess nods and steps back letting him in. She pours him a glass of wine, not even asking. If he feels anything like she does he’s going to need it. Handing it over they sit on the couch.
“How are you?” he asks, eyes boring into her.
“I’m OK,” she answers.
“Don’t lie to me, Jess.” He always could see the truth from that first meeting in the hallway. “You were crying when you answered the door.”
“I miss you,” she admits, swallowing back the lump in her throat and blinking back the tears trying to form in her eyes. “More than I thought was possible.”
“I miss you, too,” he says, surprising Jess so much she looks up at his face, that beautiful face. Gulping, she’s missed him so much.
“I read the letter,” he says, softly, cautiously.
“What? I left that months ago,” Jess says.
“I know. I didn’t read it then, you were right, it ended up in the bin. Mark found it and kept hold of it until he thought I was ready to read it. I’m glad he did, he made me realise I’ve been a stubborn idiot. That I should have spoken to you sooner.” Luka looks at her with sad eyes.
“Really? Mark did that?” Confusion is a picture that paints Jess’ face.
“Yeah, he did. I need you to be completely honest with me about everything, I have so many stupid things in my head,” he says, and it’s clear he has been torturing himself.
“There is nothing new to tell you, Luka, I told you everything that last time. Every gory detail.”
“Really, that was all of it, one kiss and the job?” he says, a meek smile on his face which would break Jess’ heart if it wasn’t already in pieces.
“That’s it, Luka. Like I said in the letter it’s always been you, from the second you walked in my life. Ade didn’t know it, but he was fighting a losing battle.” Jess shifts nervously in her seat.
“Is there anything else, Jess, anything s
ince we broke up?” He looks terrified, as though Jess is going to spring a big monster on him. “Will you tell me, Jess? Please.”
“After you broke up with me, I was a mess and I didn’t know how to deal with it at all. I have been trying to deal with that. I’m in therapy, back on my anti-depressants, and trying to get through each day. I found a job which Ade has nothing to do with and I’m getting by. I’m not even socialising with my friends. I’m not the same girl you knew Luka. I’m sorry.” A lone tear runs down her face, the wine glass in her hand betraying her shaking, and she looks at the couch, afraid to see his reaction.
He doesn’t say anything, then stands up. “I need to think things over before I make a decision that will impact both of us,” he says before standing and walking out.
Shit, shit, shit. Should she have not told him about the depression? Should she have kept it secret? No, no more lies! If you’re going to win him back it will be on your own merit, Jessica Davis.
She finishes her wine and stares at the clock. An hour passes, and she can’t bear it anymore. She refuses to go through another two months of pining for this man.
--!--
Luka answers his door looking incredible. She’s sure he’s looking even more stressed, but seeing him, having him answer his door to her, means the world.
“Luka, I’m not walking away, I’m not letting you walk away. I’ve made mistakes and I own them. I love you, more than I’ve ever loved anything or anybody. I refuse to let you push me away. I know I’ve not earned your trust, but I will. I will do whatever you want for me to earn it. If I have to fight for you, I will. I love you. Damn it. I really love you, Luka.”
His face is blank, she can’t read a thing on that face of his. Here she is in the middle of a hallway pouring her heart out to him and he’s not giving her anything.
Then he steps forward, puts an arm around her waist, pulls her into him, her hands holding onto his strong arms. His lips come to her ear. “I love you, too.” Jess looks up to smile at him and he stifles her smile with a deep and damaging kiss. Her arms climb up his arms until they are circled around his neck; he pulls her inside his apartment and kicks the door closed, not letting her go from this wonderful kiss.
Entering the bedroom, he lifts her top off with a sharp intake of breath as she’s not wearing a bra underneath.
“I’ve missed you so much,” he says between kisses and leading her onto the bed, laying her down and climbing onto her.
Jess smiles, rolling him over taking off his sweater and kissing his chest, slowly and meticulously. His breath is ragged, her body is on fire and she is flying high being back in this man’s arms.
Removing her jeans and underwear and starts tracing his hands around her face. “I want to feel you, Jess, remember every part of your body.” He runs his hands down her neck, across her shoulders and down her arms; he picks up her hands, kissing her fingertips before tracing his fingers back up her arms again. Then he brushes his fingers down her sides and around her breasts. Jess arches her back, his touch sending volts of electricity racing through her body. His hands lower to her legs and caress down her thighs past her knees, making Jess gasp, and onto her feet where again he pauses to take the time to kiss, before he grazes his way up and pauses at her clit. “You’re so wet, Jess.” He takes his time, slowly rubbing her clit and making her moan, her body flushed. Jess bites her lip and Luka comes in for a kiss which rips the breath from her lungs.
She works his jeans off and take his length in her hand, catching his eye and smiling before she works her tongue around the head, his groan one of pent-up frustration. As she starts to take his cock in her mouth she ensures she has eye contact with him. Those eyes she has dreamed about in the past few months, and now they’re back with her again and she is going to stare at them every chance she gets. The deeper she swallows him the more out of control Luka is becoming. He grabs a handful of her hair and guides her as she swallows before he says,
“I want to be inside you, Jess, properly inside you.” He smiles, a cheeky dimple-filled smile.
Pushing her flat on her back, and using a finger on her nub, Jess’ body starts to jolt and react to his touch. Then he brings his face to her clit and takes his tongue to play and she falls apart, this man was made for her. Nobody else could do this to her nor could anybody else make her feel so alive or loved, while sending her body into an orgasm.
He lifts himself up as she grips the covers in her fists and convulses, drawing out his smile. Rubbing his length past her clit, he enters her, making Jess gasp, pulling her bottom lip into her teeth, the pleasure rippling through her. Luka brushes her hair from her face and kisses her.
“Are you OK, beautiful?”
“I’m perfect, I love you,” she responds to him. She feels wonderful; if they could bottle this it would sell for millions.
“I love you, too.” He’s not rushing anything, taking his time to savour their every second together, kissing her all over, making Jess feel loved and possessed.
They try different positions and keep telling each other “I love you”; this is the most special and important time that they’ve had making love and it’s going to be the one that sticks in their mind forever. It’s healing them, their estrangement.
When they come to an end Luka brings her to a climax first and is right behind her; they clutch each other, whispering in each other’s ears and completely wrapped up in each other.
“I don’t ever want to lose you again,” Luka says to Jess while they are cuddling each other as the light is disappearing from the day.
“Never, I can’t bear the thought,” Jess says, and it’s true. After all they’ve been through she feels lucky to have him in her arms.
“Why did you change your hair?” he asks.
“The pink reminded me of you,” she says, honestly, knowing the unprofessional part of her story was her excuse to explain it to others. He pulls her close kissing her.
“Well, you can put it back now then, can’t you?” She smiles and nods because she would like nothing more than to be his Pinky again.
“I’ll have to thank Mark for keeping that letter,” Jess says. Luka chuckles and kisses her again, he’s doing a lot of kissing right now.
“Yeah, he’s been fighting your corner since day one. And what’s this I hear about him visiting you?” He winks at her, and Jess looks at him, smiling.
“He found me outside your door after you broke up with me, I think he felt responsible for seeing me home. After that he popped in to check on me whenever he came to see you. Five minutes to say hello. I’m really glad you and him sorted things out, Luka. He seems like a good guy.” Jess climbs onto Luka and kisses him long, and slow. “Now, are you pleased to see me or are you ready to go again?” she teases, feeling his cock pushing against her, and he turns them over so he’s on top of her.
“I’m definitely ready to go again.” They both chuckle until he locks her mouth down with another deep kiss, Jess has a feeling this is going to be a long dirty night and she’s happier than she’s been in a very long time about that.
Epilogue
Nine Months Later
Luka
“Is that everything?” Luka shouts to Jess as he puts a box down in their bedroom. She runs in and jumps on his back, arms wrapped around his neck.
“Yes, that’s it, the rest is staying in the apartment for the tenant.” She kisses his ear, making him want to throw her on the bed. Luka wraps his arm around his back to grab her and pull her around to his front, so they are facing each other. She’s smiling a grin so wide and there’s been very little hesitation from her recently.
“Are you still absolutely sure about moving in?” he asks her, and she kisses him, a soft and loving kiss, the kind of kiss only Jess would give him.
“I’ve never been surer of anything, except maybe you,” she says, and he lifts her onto the bed, lea
ning over her. He lifts her top up so that he has access to kiss and suck her belly. She giggles and puts a hand on his shoulder.
“Luka, do we have time? Mark is coming, remember?”
He looks her in the eyes, rips her top off.
“There’s always time for you.” Taking a handful of her breasts and smothering her giggles with a passionate kiss, she is soon on his level, lifting his top, using her hands to explore his body. When she removes his jeans and grasps his dick, Luka almost comes then and there. Even after so many months she still has a magical touch; she knows exactly where to touch, when to touch, and how to touch.
She gently massages his length until he’s fit to burst. He takes her hands and pins them above her head and enters her slowly so that she feels every single inch. He pushes his way in and then he grinds at speed. They don’t have time to be gentle and it doesn’t take long at this pace for her to grip him tightly while her body convulses.
“I love you, Luka,” she says when she finishes. He will never get tired of hearing her say those words.
“I love you, too, Pinky, so very much,” he says as he hits his climax and takes her mouth in his possession.
They stay wrapped in each other for a few minutes. Time isn’t on their side though, and a quick shower is all they have time for before there’s a knock on the front door, and Mark arrives.
“I’m so glad you’re here, Mark, you can help me sort all this stuff out,” Jess says, hugging Mark as he walks in seeing the piles of boxes from her move.
“Wow, how much stuff did you have, Jess?” Mark laughs, throwing his arm over her shoulder. They’ve become firm friends in the past few months, and Luka has found it overwhelming to see them getting on. His previous concerns about Mark’s cheating with Ellie have washed away. He knows things with Jess are so different and Mark wouldn’t dream of doing something like that again.
