Heather crossed her arms. “Now what exactly was your New Year’s Resolution?”
“Not to be such a glutton,” Digby said.
“Then I think that you’ve already broken it,” Heather said.
“What do you mean?” Digby asked indignantly. “I’ve been sticking to this donut rule.”
"Yes. But it's making you miserable, and you just described it as torture," Heather said. "I'm afraid you've become a glutton for punishment."
Digby opened his mouth and had no response. Then he put a donut in his mouth. “When you’re right, you’re right,” he said.
Heather and Amy chuckled.
“Oh,” he said, trying to finish the donut quickly so he could talk. “I forgot. The reason I came back here was to tell you that you have visitors in the shop.”
They thanked him and hurried inside. Josh and Jamie were there, waiting. Josh pulled them into a big hug.
“I heard you cleared my name,” he said.
“Yeah,” Amy said. “But with no help from you. Do you know how suspicious you made yourself look?”
“And you got Jamie into trouble,” Heather said.
“And I don’t like it when people get Jamie into trouble,” Amy agreed.
“I’m sorry,” Josh said. “I should have trusted that you would figure it all out. Based on how much Jamie brags about you, I should have known you’d do it.”
“He brags about me?” Amy asked.
“All the time,” Josh said. “It’s a little annoying actually.”
“I always believed in you,” Jamie told Amy. “Sometimes it’s just hard to balance loyalties between the people you care most about in your life.”
“I guess I can understand and forgive you,” Amy said. “If you can forgive me for trying to arrest you.”
Jamie kissed her to show there were no hard feelings.
“I hope you can forgive me too,” Josh said. “Not that I want any kisses. But I do want us all to be friends.”
“Of course,” Heather said. “As long as you promise never to interfere with our investigations again.”
"I can promise that," Josh said. "I better not be involved in any more of them again. I hated being a suspect."
“So, what are you going to do now?” Amy asked. “Are you going to work with Jamie in the van again?”
"I think I've seen as much of that van as I can stand from all the hiding," Josh said. "But luckily I have a job again. Once the dust all settled, Mr. Gusters was back to business."
“Big surprise,” Amy muttered.
“He asked Damian and me to run the kitchen together, and I think we’ll work well together,” Josh said. “You’ll have to come to the restaurant sometime. The whole gang.”
“Of course,” Heather agreed.
"But maybe not to order the stir-fry," Amy joked.
“That’s it!” Heather said.
“What is?” asked Amy.
“It’s off topic,” Heather said. “But it just occurred to me. I think I just figured out the perfect flavor for Col and Mona’s wedding.”
“What is it?” Jamie asked.
“Sorry,” Heather said with a wink. “You can’t expect me to announce it without testing it out.”
“Then we better get cooking,” Amy said, and they hurried back to the kitchen.
The End.
