I felt shy all of a sudden. I had a hard time meeting his eye. "And you, Jeb?" I said. "Do you think you and your sister could call a place home where the community changes into wolves every now and then?"
I ached to hear his answer but I was so afraid he would say no that I couldn't keep his gaze with my own until I felt the whisper of his touch on my arm.
I lifted my gaze to his and felt as though he was holding me aloft for a long moment. His crystalline eyes roamed my face, taking in every inch of it before it plunged to my throat and watched the pulse throb there in a nervous frenzy. I felt his hand on mine before I realized he had reached for it, and with our two hands together, he pulled the T shirt collar away from his neck, showing me where I had bit him. It had scarred over but it was still distinct and red.
"I think my whole life was training to be your bondmate," he said. "If you'll have me, my life and my gun is yours."
I felt like I could breathe again. The air exhaled from my lungs like air from a bellows. "History in the making," I said. "A female alpha and her human mate. You have no idea what you're in for." I grinned at him, both relieved and excited.
He pulled me hard against his side and wrapped his arm about the small of my back. "Oh, I think I have some idea," he said. "It'll be a wild ride, but I think I can take you."
I felt calm settle over me for the first time in weeks. Whether man or wolf, I knew he was now part of my pack. I thought of my father and my trainer, and I knew they would be pleased at the pack's resurrection. I also knew they would approve of the man my wolf had chosen.
