After another bout of weird silence, I clear my throat. “Have you started your internship?” I ask.
“I start tomorrow actually. Pretty excited about it.”
“That’s awesome. I’m happy for you,” I say, giving him a small smile.
He runs a hand through his hair with a sigh. “Maybe we could start over? You know, with a clean slate. Without the Madison drama and putting that little mishap behind us,” he says.
I smile. I can deal with starting over.
“Well, in that case, I’m Blake Spencer,” I say, extending my hand to him with a smirk. He chuckles and shakes it.
“Who in the world is Blake Spencer?” he asks, scratching his chin as he pretends to be confused.
Yeah, who is Blake Spencer?
“I’m just a country girl who’s passionate about writing, her friends, pop culture, and butter pecan ice cream with a crazy puppy who was probably a bitter old man in his previous life. Not to mention a gossip queen who can’t resist a good story,” I say. He smiles.
“I can dig it,” he says with a nod. “Like you said earlier, you are who you are.”
And I am.
And you know what?
I’m totally okay with that.
“I got these tickets to see Lion King on Broadway on Friday. Would you like to come with me?” he asks.
I smirk and put a hand on my hip. “Are you asking me out on a date, Mr. Hayes?”
“Yes, Ms. Spencer,” he says and chuckles. “What do you say?”
I tap my chin and pretend to think. “Oh, I don’t know. I think some people may be upset if I say yes,” I tease. He waves me off.
“To hell with what people think. I want you to come with me and that’s all that matters,” he says.
Well then. Despite all her attempts at sabotaging my life and relationship with Silas, it still didn’t work. Haha Madicunt!
“Only if you promise we can go to V-Life afterwards,” I say, taking a step closer to him.
“Deal,” he murmurs.
“Then it’s a date,” I say, standing on my tiptoes and planting a soft kiss on his lips. His eyes widen in surprise before a grin settles on his lips.
“Alright then,” he says, swinging his leg over the bike and grabbing his helmet. “I’ll pick you up at 6?”
“Sounds good,” I say. He puts on his helmet and starts his bike.
“Later, Spencer,” he said with a wink and pulls out onto the street. I stand on the sidewalk grinning like a fool.
A new job? Check.
Making amends with everyone to the best of my ability? Check.
Getting Madicunt the Camel out of my life? Check (and thank God).
Having a date with Silas on Friday? Check.
I pick Milo up and head into the building, the smile still plastered on my face.
Yeah, starting over is going to be just fine.
