“Promise? I mean…I’m not real sure exactly where…”
“Yes. I’ll track it down and we’ll make arrangements as soon as Nika can travel.”
“Really?”
“I can’t think of a better place to start over. Can you?”
Sobs erupted after she buried her head against his chest. Shifting their positions so they could lie together, he wrapped her in his arms and caressed her back until she quieted. “I didn’t hear a yes in there…”
She lifted her head, her expression begging for a kiss. “Yes, sir.”
He knew she needed to feel his presence surrounding her, just as he needed her. He responded to the unspoken plea in her eyes with a slow and soft caress of her cheek while her light filled the darkest corners of his soul. They had a long road ahead of them, full of healing and adjustments, but he’d be there for her every step of the way. Chasing away the doubts of yesterday filled him with anticipation for tomorrow. Never had his life been so full of peace and hope.
