“Irwin got promoted? Good for her.” Mops checked her console. “How long until they’re close enough to start shooting?”
“Four hours,” said Monroe.
“Wolf, patch me through.” Mops waited for Wolf’s nod. “The Pufferfish sends its regards to Captain Irwin and the crew of the EMCS Box Jellyfish. I’m afraid we’ll have to decline the Fleet Admiral’s invitation for the time being. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
Her expression hardened. “But tell Sage not to worry. She’ll be hearing from us again soon. We might not be the best soldiers in the EMC, but if there’s one thing we know, it’s how to clean up other people’s messes.”
Mops glanced around the bridge. If Wolf grinned any harder, her teeth would pop out. Monroe smiled as well, adding a small salute. Kumar and Vera were huddled together, their shoulders touching. Azure stood quietly, her body tilted in a posture Mops recognized as calm and determined. Grom looked up from their control sphere and gave an exaggerated nod.
“Adamopoulos out.”
