“OK, maybe two,” she gasped as he grazed his teeth over the taut bud.
He began to move inside her again, pushing her arousal up a notch with every stroke. Chrissie kissed his neck, sucking on his earlobe, making him lunge into her—which she was not complaining about, she loved it when he lost control.
With hard, long lunges, he built up the tension between them. When the release came, it was incredible, earth shattering, and yet so sweet, because when her orgasm subsided, he pulled her into his arms and held her close, making her feel safe and cherished. Just as they would both love and cherish their son.
“We need to get up and get going.” She reluctantly pulled away from him, but was unable to resist going back for one last kiss before she hit the shower. Chrissie knew Joel would go and get Sam up, and feed him his breakfast; it was a time they liked to share, before Joel usually scooted off to work for the day. But today was different.
A small knot of nerves wound around her stomach. They had waited months for this day. After the arrests were made—both of the guy who killed Angela, a Reg Halport, and Mr. Anderson, who had experienced a mental breakdown—Chrissie had taken Sam back to her house. With a bit of behind-the-scenes work by the police chief, Chrissie was granted the right to be his temporary foster parent.
It had been bittersweet. Sam was safe, the bad guys were caught, and that left the way open for Krieg to try to take back his son.
Only then, Beau came around, and told them that the reason Krieg had beaten Angela so badly, was that he found out Sam was not his. The worst part about it was that Angela had died for nothing: there was never going to be any money, no bounty, it was one of her many fantasies. In Mr. Anderson’s possession was a receipt for the designer shoes. He had bought them for Angela to get her to trust him, to get her to talk about Krieg.
Angela had done what she was good at, and told him what he, and to some degree, she, wanted to hear. That Krieg would do anything, pay anything, to have his son by his side.
“What a waste,” she said sadly as she wrapped a towel around her body and reached for her robe. That was enough sadness for one day, this was a happy day, this was Sam’s day.
The knot in her stomach tightened. Until they had the documents in their hands she was afraid someone would jump up and steal it from her. This happiness she had built with Joel was almost too good to be true.
“Stop it. You deserve it,” she said to her reflection.
“Yes, you do,” Joel said, coming into the bathroom with Sam in his arms. “Tell Mommy she is being stupid.” He kissed Chrissie, and then Sam leaned in to do the same.
“Thank you, baby.” She kissed Sam and hugged him. “I just want him to be ours, so no one can take him away.”
“If anyone tried, my bear would rip their head off. He is ours.” He handed Sam to Chrissie. “Now, you two go and get dressed, while I shower.”
Chapter Twenty-One – Joel
His heart swelled with happiness as he stood outside the courthouse, Sam nestled between him and Chrissie, while Liam took a photograph or two. He looked at all their friends and family before them, and smiled, then grinned, then threw his head back and laughed.
“Don’t, they’ll take Sam away from us if they think you are insane,” Chrissie said.
“Let them try. I’d go grrr if they did, wouldn’t I, Sam?”
“Grrr,” Sam said, copying his father. Joel sighed. A father. It had happened so fast, but as Chrissie peeled away from him and went to kiss her parents, and hug her niece, he felt like he was part of a bigger world, a world full of adventure, one he longed to explore, with Sam and Chrissie, and soon, hopefully, their own child, by his side.
