Man of the House: An Older Man Younger Woman Romance Page 58

by Sarah Rowling

He continued, “Karen is clearly not having an easy time, knowing that the year of separation is almost up. She doesn’t want to get divorced. I’m not in love with her anymore. It fucking sucks, Victoria, but I can’t do anything more.”

She watched his expression, the separation was clearly hard on him too.

He spoke again, “It’s hard to have to hurt someone just to be happy. That’s all.”

Nuzzling into him, she closed her eyes. Everything was getting even more complicated, exactly what she was trying to avoid.

But the smell of his skin and the feel of his arms around her were impossible to resist. If things were going to get complicated, she decided that he was worth it.

What more could happen? She thought, kissing his chest gently.

She sighed, putting the idea of Karen aside. Knowing that she wasn’t a threat but rather an obstacle for them to overcome was an enormous relief. She had also discovered that Karen no longer had a key to Kasey’s apartment. That was a step in the right direction.

It was just after midnight when Kasey sat up in the bed.

“I’ve got to go home.” He said, as if he had just realized it.

Victoria opened her eyes, she had just been about to drift off to sleep. He had startled her back awake.

  “Why?” She asked him sleepily.

He shook his head, “I’ve got to get all of my tools. I need them for tomorrow. Shit.”

He got up out of the bed, pulling his pants up his legs. She rolled over, looking at him with heavy eyelids.

“I’ll see you tomorrow?” She mumbled.

He went over to her and kissed her, whispering, “Definitely.”

She smiled and watched him throw his shirt on, about to walk out of the room.

“Good night, Vickie.” He said with a grin on his face.

She stuck her tongue out at him playfully, with a smile and said, “Good night.”

  Chapter Four

She woke up smiling as the sun shone through her bedroom window. She stretched her arms above her head and rolled over. Her nose was buried in the pillow on the other side of the bed and she breathed in the scent of Kasey.

She nearly hopped out of bed, more than ready to start the day. The thought of spending another night with Kasey fueled her good mood. She wondered if he woke up as happy as she did.

Slipping on a simple outfit, she wound her hair into a bun and secured it with a clip. Within minutes, she was on her way to the bakery. She could make coffee and breakfast there, like she did every weekday morning.

Walking into the kitchen through the back entrance, Victoria saw the tube of chocolate on the floor. There was flour spilled on the counter and a few dishes were askew. She and Kasey had made a bigger mess than she realized. Of course, she hadn’t been focusing on the state of the kitchen.

She got to cleaning it up, remembering how amazing it was when they made such a mess. A shudder ran through her body as she thought about him behind her and his hands gripping her ass.

As she wiped the tile floor, she perked her hips up, imaging Kasey’s hard dick. Her pussy started to pulse with desire and she had to shake her head, trying to think about something else.

She got right to making dough, taking her tension out with her work until she could get to Kasey. Despite the work at hand, she couldn’t get him off of her mind. Even more, she couldn’t stop thinking about the way his body felt on top of hers.

Glancing down at her kneading hands, she wondered how early that afternoon she could get to his place. She knew he would be home around three and could probably close the bakery at the same time.

I could surprise him at his apartment later, she thought to herself with a smile. She frowned, if someone would just let me in.

She shrugged at herself, certain that one of his neighbors would let her in.

When she was finished with the dough she went around to the front and switched on the coffee maker. She went to the door, unlocking it and opening it a few inches to let some fresh air in. With the ovens on, it was often quite hot.

An hour later at eight that morning, Albert came through the door, cane in hand. He sat at his usual table, waving at Victoria without a smile or nod. She was never sure if the gesture was a greeting or a command, but she always brought a muffin out to him after she saw it.

“Just made some fresh coffee for you,” she said to him as she brought out a blueberry bran muffin.

“Thank you,” he said sternly, with a nod.

She went back behind the counter, grabbing him a coffee mug. She leaned against the wooden counter top as she waited for the coffee maker to finish brewing.

Watching Albert as he struggled to read his newspaper, she wondered if he had ever been married. She wondered how he had become so ornery. Looking closer, she saw there was a ring on his finger.

The pot finished and Victoria filled the porcelain mug in her hand. She chatted with Albert every once in a while and decided to ask him about his wife.

She walked back around the counter, coming to his table.

“Albert, how long have you been married?” She asked as she set down the cup of coffee.

Albert glanced up from his paper, pursing his lips together a few times before he spoke.

  “Four years and forty years.”

She frowned, “You were married twice?”

He gave her a single nod, not bothering to look at her. She went back behind the counter, with the frown stuck on her face.

How the hell did he get married twice? She asked herself.

“Second time’s the charm.” He said loudly, startling her a little. Both the volume of his voice and the response to her silent question had made her heart jump. She stared at him with surprise.

He coughed, clearing his throat and returned to his paper.

She was about to tell him that the expression was “third time’s the charm” but didn’t bother. He probably knew that already.

At half past two that afternoon, Victoria was at her condo and in her bedroom. She closed the bakery much earlier than usual but knew that it was worth it. She had been thinking about Kasey non-stop since she woke up.

She called him early, asking him when he’d be home. She told him she would need to stay an extra hour at the bakery and that she would come by after. He told her he couldn’t wait to see her and she hung up, almost giddy with the thrill of catching him off guard. She started to run a hand over her boobs as she thought about how quickly she could get him hard.

She was standing in front of her mirror in her bedroom, trying to decide what to surprise Kasey in. She had a black lace teddy on and was turning in the mirror.

She took it off, shimmying to get the tight fabric off of her body. Picking up a red one, similar to the first, she slipped it on. Her body looked great but she didn’t want to wear something so fussy. Snaps and hooks were more difficult to get off. She took the lingerie off.

She put on the black dress she had worn the night they were interrupted by Karen, thinking about his hand sliding up her thigh. Looking at herself in the mirror, she knew she had made the right choice.

Grabbing her purse and her keys, she walked out the door with a smile spreading across her face.

  Chapter Five

She pulled up to his building, biting her lip eagerly. She imagined the look on his face and hurried to the entrance.

Buzzing the apartment across from Kasey’s she waited for a response. When she got nothing she buzzed the other apartment on his floor, hoping they would let her in.

After a moment, a grainy voice called out over the intercom. Victoria stuttered, unsure of what to say.

“Hi, I need to get in the building. I’m surprising…. my boyfriend.” She blushed a little as she said boyfriend, wondering what Kasey would think about that.

There was a pause before the intercom came back on.

  “I let you in already.”

What? Victoria was confused. She was obvious
ly not in the building yet.

Either way, the door opened and she stepped into the building. She shrugged off the strange voice and made her way to the stairwell. She never took the elevator, partly for the exercise and partly because of her claustrophobia.

She got up to his floor, several flights of stairs up and walked into the hallway. She paused, taking a breath and made her way to his door, smiling confidently.

She was about to turn the corner when she saw someone at Kasey’s door already. Staying behind the corner, she saw Karen, in a long trench coat about to knock on his door.

Her heart started beating rapidly and her hand flew to her chest.

Oh my god, she thought to herself, over and over. She couldn’t think of anything but the shock at seeing Karen, again.

As she stared, Karen knocked softly, waiting for Kasey to answer the door. She slid her coat off as she pulled her hand back from the door, revealing a black lace teddy of her own.

Her heavy chest was pressed into some impressive cleavage and nothing but lace covered her bottom half. Her legs were bare to her hips save for a pair of high heels.

Victoria’s mouth gaped open and she was instantly nauseous. When she saw his door open and his arm reach out, she felt like she had been hit in the stomach. Kasey’s arm pulled her into his apartment, slamming the door after she was inside.

She started backing away slowly. The only thing she could think to do was leave. She certainly couldn’t go knock on his door now with his half-naked ex-wife standing in his kitchen.

  She had to leave.

She went back down the stairs, clumsily as she tried to hurry out.

She didn’t want to cry but couldn’t stop the tears. It was just so frustrating. She had the perfect man, if not for his wife. She wished she could have met him weeks later than she did. But as she wished, she realized that even once they were divorced Karen might still be an issue.

Once she was out of the building, she sprinted to her car, getting in quickly. She lowered her head onto the steering wheel, wondering what to do.

Why did he pull her in? She repeated in her head.

She shook her head, trying to forget it. She stuck her keys in the ignition and started her car. Frankly, she was tired of dealing with Karen. She understood that Kasey couldn’t control his ex-wife’s actions but she didn’t know if she could handle it.

She pulled onto the street, making her way back home. She would call him later and tell him she wasn’t feeling well, or maybe wait for him to call.

Tears streamed down her face, disappointed in the change of events. She had felt so good all day long that the newfound heartache hit her like a ton of bricks.

As she drove home, she had to stop herself from turning around. She wanted nothing more than to run into his arms so that he could comfort her, but after seeing Karen again, something about him seemed much less comforting.

  Chapter One

Victoria sped home, her eyes a little blurry from her tears. It was so frustrating, to feel like she was getting somewhere with Kasey and then to seemingly have it all taken away by his ex-wife. She couldn’t hate her, either, because she felt bad for her.

She couldn’t help but think that Kasey was sending her mixed signals. Could Karen really be that pathetic? To be constantly showing up at his apartment, using pet names with him, and trying to seduce him?

As Victoria stormed through her hallway, making her way to the bedroom she wondered if Karen had been acting that way the entire year she had been apart from Kasey. She couldn’t have, otherwise she would really be crazy and Kasey wouldn’t have spent six years of his life with her.

Victoria imagined that Karen was a smart, kind woman. She knew that she was a gorgeous blonde from when she had come into the bakery the previous week.

She slumped down on her bed, giving her head a shake. She wanted to clear her mind of Kasey and all Kasey-related thoughts but she didn’t know how. Things between them obviously needed to slow down until the divorce was finalized.

She got up and started pacing a little, wondering what to do with herself. Grabbing her phone out of her purse, she walked into the kitchen and put it on the counter. She returned to her bedroom, bringing her thumb to her teeth as she thought.

She went back into the kitchen, turning her phone on silent. She would talk to Kasey after she had a chance to recover from the situation.

She pulled her dress off, letting it fall to the floor, and wrapped her hair up in a bun. She climbed back into her bed and turned on the television to distract herself. Kasey wasn’t expecting her for another hour or two anyways, but she had to stop herself from driving back over to his place.

Her mind kept her from rushing to him even though her heart wanted to so badly. She had to know what happened after he pulled Karen into his apartment. He knew that Victoria would be coming by within a few hours, so what had he intended?

She grabbed the remote, turning the T.V. up louder, trying to focus on the show. But it didn’t help.

With a sigh, she got up out of her bed and went back into the kitchen. She had a bottle of red wine sitting on her counter and she grabbed the corkscrew to open it. Pouring a full glass, she sighed again, thinking about how she could have shared it with Kasey.

She went back down the hall to her bedroom, carefully avoiding a single glance towards her cell phone.

Half a bottle of wine later, Victoria had her phone in her bed with her and she was staring at it. It was well after eight that evening and he hadn’t called or texted her. Nothing.

The more time that ticked by, the more her heart started to ache. Had he forgot about her since his wife had showed up?

She covered her phone with a pillow, deciding to ignore it. She went into the kitchen to finish off the bottle of wine.

She started to wonder why he had even bothered asking her out. Not only asking her out, but nearly begging her to consider him.

She started to get angry, thinking about it.

After another half hour had passed, she thought about calling him and giving him a piece of her mind. Her eyes bore into the screen, pondering what she would say to him. Nothing that came to mind was positive and she shook her head to clear it.

She felt a little tipsy and lay her head back, closing her eyes. It was barely 9:00pm but emotionally, she was exhausted. The wine hadn’t helped either.

She fell asleep, tossing and turning around as she dreamed fitfully. Karen and Kasey were embracing in front of her but no matter what she said, neither of them could hear her.

The images swirled in her mind, distorted from the wine.

Ten minutes later she was startled awake by the buzzer, sitting straight up in bed with her hair plastered to her sweaty face.

She glanced in her mirror, smoothing her hair into place. Getting out of bed she picked up her cell phone, expecting to see missed calls from Kasey. But there was nothing. She tied a thin robe around her waist and left her bedroom.

She frowned, making her way to the door and pressed the intercom. She asked who was there, but it was too muffled to tell. She rolled her eyes, pressing the buzzer to let whoever waited there, in.

She held her breath, waiting to see Kasey’s face through the peephole. Her heart leapt into her throat when she saw his face
come into view. It started to pound in her chest and she stepped back from the door.

She paused before opening it, reminding herself that she was upset, and not to let his handsome face distract her.

Taking a breath, she opened the door, looking up into his face.

  Chapter Two

“Victoria,” he said, waiting for her to invite him in.

Instead, she leaned against the door frame, blocking him from entering.

“Hi, Kasey.” She said, glancing down at her feet.

He put his hands in his pockets and exhaled loudly, clearing his throat.

“My neighbor, Chris, told me that two women came by the building earlier. When I realized that you tried to stop by, I thought it would be better that I came over to talk to you.”

His voice was serious and Victoria had to bite her lip to keep it from trembling. She had a feeling inside that he was going to tell her it was over.

“Can I come in?” He asked her, softly.

She shook her head, “No,” she swallowed hard, “Just say what you need to say and then you can go.”

He frowned deeply and his face looked like she had slapped him.

“Victoria, please let me explain what happened.”

He stepped forward to put a hand on her arm but she shrugged him off.

“I saw Karen at your apartment in a very nice outfit and I saw you pull her in. I don’t want to know what happened between you two. This has just been a tumultuous relationship so far and I don’t want to continue it like this.”

He started to shake his head the moment he heard what she was saying.

“No, she was being ridiculous and I didn’t want her to embarrass herself standing in the hall way half naked. I brought her inside to tell her that it had to stop.” His voice was starting to sound a little impatient.

“So it’s been an entire year of her desperate attempts to win you back? I have a hard time believing that she would act like this for so long without you inviting it…”
