Most of the people included in his “suite” or “retinue” in this story were real, with the exceptions of Peter Stark and the Earl of Washburn. Lieutenant Governor George Dundas and his wife were, of course, real, as were the Duke of Newcastle, the Earl of St. Germains, Dr. Acland, General Bruce, and the “equerries,” Grey and Teesdale. All of the servants named in this book are fictional, as are the entire Orland family and their neighbors and friends.
