After eating they shared a Tiramisu and ordered coffee. Adrienne was suddenly serious. “Katherine you said that we should talk today.” Kat was suddenly aware that Adrienne had been worrying about what she was about to say.
“Yes, Adrienne, remember when she spoke about having children, and about wanting the freedom to be with them and not working, and you spoke of financial security?”
“Yes....... Kat before you carry on, I want us to be independent, if your job, or book is profitable then good, but I’m not borrowing from my parents, I want to do this my...ourselves.”
“And we can Adie, but sooner than you might think.”
“I don’t understand.”
“The house that Nic and Kevin live in, I own it.”
“I gathered that.”
“I mean I own it outright, mortgage free.”
“What?”
“And I don’t just own that, I own the two flats below it, and another ten flats nearby...... most of them mortgage free.”
“Honestly?” Katherine had seen Adrienne look into estate agents when they wandered around Chiswick, and she had been aghast at the London prices, hundreds of thousands even for a studio flat. “We don’t need to wait Adrienne, I’m going to extend my mortgage on the other flats, borrow enough so that we can have the hotel finished in however long it takes, hopefully just a few months.”
Adrienne had tears in her eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“What?”
“That you’re rich?”
“Well that’s relative, for London I’m far from rich, and you said yourself you were surprised at what something like my fairly small flat is worth. I wanted to bring you here, to show you. My mother did this, not me, she inherited her parents home, the townhouse I lived in. Then she took that opportunity and developed it, like your parents did in creating the hotel, then she used that income to buy more flats. I’ve just inherited them.”
“You didn’t trust me!”
“What, no Adrienne, no...”
“You didn’t tell me in case I just wanted you for your money.”
“No Adie, no please, I love you, more than I’ve ever loved anyone before, and I can see how it looks like that, but I could also see how independent you were. Even before you told me that your parents offered to help, you said you weren’t willing to consider an investor, that you wanted to do this yourself, actually my worry was that knowing this you would not want to marry me.”
Adie spoke calmly. “And now I know.”
Katherine was suddenly terrified. “Yes, you do, and I hope you know that I adore you. Adrienne I want you to bear my children, I want to see you daily, you and the children around our home, not away at work all day.”
“You don’t need to work.”
“Probably not.”
“You didn’t need to do up my room, you could just have paid me to stay with me, god you could probably have stayed in a hotel for months.”
Katherine nodded. “Well a cheap one probably. Adie you’re right I don’t need to work, I don’t need to write a novel either, but that’s not me, living off my inheritance doesn’t give me self worth. I wanted to invest in your hotel.... not just with money but something of me. That’s what challenges me.”
“And Nic?”
“Nic is like my sister, and she’s stubborn too, Christ I’d just happily give her the flat, there’s no way on her and Kevin’s salary that they could afford to live in Chiswick, or anywhere close. They were looking at living together in a shared flat, I wanted to help them if I could. She won’t accept my charity, so I’ve offered them the flat at reduced rent if they manage the others.”
“Good.”
“Good?” Katherine looked at her questioningly.
“Yes, I’m glad that you are looking out for her.”
“Adrienne you are scaring me, please tell me that this hasn’t changed anything.”
“Oh but it has Kat, its changed a lot.”
Katherine couldn’t stop the tears from falling. “I’d give it all up for you Adie, in a minute.”
“Yes, its changed a lot, we can have our dream much sooner than expected....” she took Kat’s hand and placed it on her stomach. “Or should I say dreams.”
Kat suddenly realise what she was saying. “You mean?”
“Yes, let’s marry as soon as we can, and I want a child Kat, I wasn’t entirely truthful either, I don’t want to wait, I am broody. I want a donor that’s as close to you in looks, personality and temperament as possible.... and English, so it seems we are in the right place.”
“You mean......”
“That’s exactly what I mean.”
Katherine smiled. “I’m not sure that walking down the aisle pregnant will be what your parents want. Haven’t we done enough that’s not traditional?”
“It’s our life Kat, anyway it can take years to be successful, all I’m asking to do is start the process. Can we?”
“I’d give you anything, you must know that.”
“Anything?
“Yes.”
“Then take me home Katherine, show me how much you love me.”
Katherine didn’t need to be asked twice, her relief palpable. She quickly paid the bill and ordered a taxi.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
Adrienne loved the rest of her holiday, between dining out, sightseeing and trips to the theatre they attended the bank and found a clinic on Harley Street. They watched theatre performances, and Adrienne was amazed to see well known Hollywood actors and actresses live on stage.
Nic and Kevin had agreed to rent the flat and manage the other properties and they organised the transfer of responsibility to Nic. Katherine had extended her mortgage and they now had at least £400,000 towards the hotel renovation. To Adrienne this appeared an inordinate amount to money, but they had nine rooms to finish, and needed structural work as well as furnishings. The small plunge pool on the terrace would also be expensive, they needed a quality product.
The clinic advised that Adrienne undertake some fertility tests, and they had to admit that they had just assumed she would be able to carry a child. Fortunately, the tests were quick and they were over the moon when she was found to be fine. They took time selecting a donor, one who shared both physical characteristics and personality traits with Katherine. They had agreed to keep what they were doing between themselves in case they were unsuccessful, or persuaded to wait.
Donations were to be transported in a refrigerated transport to Greece. Katherine wanted to be the one to impregnate her, in their own home and Adrienne readily agreed.
Before long it was their last weekend in London and Katherine treated the four of them to drinks at a famous hotel and a meal in a Michelin star restaurant. Adrienne had insisted on buying herself a new outfit for the evening, as had Nic and they shopped together. Over their stay Katherine had been happy to see Nic and Adie becoming closer as time went on. Nic told Katherine that she fully supported their relationship and marriage, she could see how right they were for each other, she really liked Adrienne.
Katherine and Kevin hadn’t been allowed to see the new outfits before they dressed for the evening, waiting in the living room they were drinking champagne as they awaited their partners. When they arrived together Katherine felt all her moisture go from her mouth to between her legs. Adrienne was wearing a red satin sleeveless dress, which emphasised her cleavage and slim waist, a long slit showed off her legs. Her full wavy hair was loose to her shoulders, her make-up delicate, except for striking red lipstick on her full lips.
Nic was also wearing a dress, her’s black lace and above the knee, her height emphasised by black stilettos.
Katherine walked towards Adrienne. “God Adie, you are stunning.” She kissed her gently on her neck, not wanting to ruin her lipstick. “Nic you are beautiful too, isn’t she Kevin?”
Kevin was already kissing Nic. “Mm, thank god they have already agreed to marry us, as otherwise I’m not sure I’d be letting them out dre
ssed like that.”
“Good point.” They all laughed as they heard the beep showing the taxi had arrived.
Sitting in the restaurant waiting for their food to arrive they sipped their wine. “So Katherine, Adie, what’s the plan now?”
Adrienne took Katherine’s hand. “Going home, starting the work on the hotel, planning our wedding, watching the book sales, you know, not much really.” Trying to get pregnant.
Kevin laughed. “Glad to see you are taking it easy.”
They all laughed. “If you can cope with some work going on we’d really like you both to come out and stay, the flights are cheap and the accommodation is free.”
Kevin moaned in pleasure. “The thought of some time in the sun is very appealing, but only if I can help with the advertising, I’d like to create a website for you.”
“Isn’t it a bit early for that, I can’t see a building site looking that appealing?”
“Not if we do an artist’s impression, then replace it with photos as soon as it’s finished.”
Katherine toasted him. “Ah happy to bow to your considerable knowledge and expertise.”
“After what you’ve done for us Katherine its the least we can do.”
“I’ve said it before, you are family and family looks out for each other. Don’t forget I’m leaving my property in the hands of those I can trust wholeheartedly, you can’t buy that.”
Nic smiled. “We won’t let you down Katherine.”
Katherine reached out and took both their hands. “I know you won’t.” She had already decided that she would be giving them a share of the profit for their wedding present. Nic would be annoyed, but she wouldn’t be able to say no to a wedding gift.
After an amazing dinner they taxied home and left for their respective rooms. Katherine took charge before Adrienne had the opportunity to undress. “My god darling, that dress, it was all I could do to not drag you to the ladies and have my way with you, I’ve been wet and throbbing all evening.”
Adrienne laughed pulling her towards her. “I love you Katherine and there’s no one else I’d want to undress me right now. I need you to fuck me... please.”
Katherine didn’t hesitate, it had been a couple of days since they had made love and she both wanted and needed her. Quickly turning her around and unzipping her dress she pushed Adrienne back against the wall. Pulling the top to her waist she sank to her knees, taking her erect nipple into her mouth as her hands pushed up the skirt to her waist. Adrienne groaned as Katherine realised she wasn’t wearing panties. Thank god I didn’t know that earlier. Her fingers were quickly lost in her soaking folds. Katherine used her hand to separate her legs further and lowered her mouth, her lips and tongue exploring her, tasting her, loving her.
Adrienne groaned, leaning back against the wall, her hands wrapped in Katherine’s hair as she thrust her aching body against her lover’s tongue and fingers. Her powerful orgasm quickly following.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
11 months later
“Okay all stand still for a photo please, in front of the ribbon.”
It had been 11 months since London and Katherine couldn’t believe how quickly the time seemed to have passed. Katherine and Adrienne had married in London in October and then had another ceremony in Greece, enjoying the last of the heat. Now the hotel was complete and local dignitaries, press, holiday companies, local business owners alongside the contactors and family and friends were here for the grand opening.
“Wait Fabio, Adrienne isn’t here.”
Katherine looked around for her wife and saw her coming out of their house. Fabio took photos and Katherine watched with pride as Adrienne said a few words in Greek and then in English, and then cut the ribbon on the archway into the courtyard, announcing the hotel to be open. They had named it Oikos, an ancient Greek name for family, family property and the house.
Afterwards everyone milled around, looking in the rooms, all comments were positive. Katherine was immensely proud of what they had pulled off, only last week they had heard that they had been awarded four AA rosettes, a substantial achievement.
Picking up 2 glasses of champagne she offered one to Adrienne and they clinked their glasses together.
“Cheers.” Katherine took a large sip and watched as Adrienne lowered her glass without drinking. “You’re not drinking?”
Adrienne just looked at her, her eyes full of love, saying nothing.
“You’re not drinking!” Realisation suddenly dawned on Katherine as Adrienne pulled her into their office, closed the door behind them and placed a white plastic stick in her hand.
Katherine looked down, seeing the blue line. “Oh my god, does this mean...?”
Adrienne leant in and kissed her gently on the lips. “That’s exactly what it means mom, you were right darling, third time lucky.”
Katherine couldn’t believe it, today could not get any better, they were expecting. This was their third attempt, and each time Adrienne’s period had started they were devastated. God we’re expecting. “Do you need to sit down, are you okay.... I mean can I get you anything?”
Adrienne grinned. “I’m fine darling, I’m pregnant not ill, and if you are going to treat me like I’m a delicate flower for the next nine months we might as well close the hotel. Or I might just kill you now, you choose.”
Katherine couldn’t stop herself grinning from ear to ear. “I’m sorry, but I didn’t think I could get any happier.”
“Me too, remember though between us for now, just in case, let’s not tempt fate.”
“Yes, our fabulous secret. I love you babe, you know that don’t you.” Katherine slid to her knees kissing and caressing Adrienne’s stomach. “And I already love you baby, hang in there now.” Standing up she drew Adrienne into a gentle hug. “Do you think everyone will be surprised?”
“Probably not, Meliza thought you might kidnap her two when we were last in Athens. She commented on your broodiness and was threatening to check your case before you left, and not for the family silver. My parents would have as many grandchildren as they could too, you know that. We will end up seeing them all more regularly.”
Katherine stood and held her close, nuzzling her neck. “Mm, instant babysitters, I like that.”
Adrienne regretfully pulled away. “Much as I’m enjoying my private time with you, this will look suspicious if we don’t get back out there.”
“Okay, will I get you some sparkling water in a champagne glass?”
“Good idea.”
They walked out together to the courtyard and looked around them. Adrienne could see her family, Meliza talking to the local dignitaries, her parents playing with the children. She had never believed she could be where she was now, with her parents accepting her lifestyle. She knew they loved Katherine, and that they would be overjoyed when they heard their news given the unsubtle hints they had dropped since she and Katherine got together.
As for the hotel, looking around Adrienne could hardly believe that turning her home into this had never occurred to her. It had taken Katherine’s development experience and a fresh eye to visualise how wonderful it could become, and it was. Adrienne took in the beautifully developed courtyard, with its high-quality plunge pool which was already full of children. She could already imagine her own playing there.
Katherine’s financial situation had also helped greatly, something she felt guilty about initially, however Katherine had convinced her that her contribution was the building and land itself which was significant. Adrienne hadn’t wanted a partner in her business, however she hadn’t meant her life partner, that was completely different. This was their joint life and they were in it together, and now would soon be more than a couple, they would be a family.
Katherine watched her best friends, Nicole and Kevin, talking animatedly to Hakim and some of the local business owners. They had got engaged the previous Christmas and Katherine and Adrienne had managed to take time to go back to London for a long weekend for
their party. Katherine was surprised how each time she went to London she felt more and more detached. As it was a present, Nicole and Kevin had been forced to accept a small share in the rental business and Nicole was thriving, they had even discussed expansion if the hotel did as well as expected.
Nicole and Kevin had also agreed to their wedding being the first to take place at the hotel. This would be Katherine and Adrienne’s wedding present to them, they would have use of all the rooms for guests. They would marry in town but then have a blessing on their beach and a catering company would provide dinner. All they needed to pay for were the flights.
Katherine had been surprised and excited to learn that a traditional barn they could see in the distance was still part of Adrienne’s property. They were already exploring whether this could be developed into further accommodation, a large holiday let, or possibly a wedding venue.
Katherine’s book was also selling well, and she was considering a sequel, whilst not a bestseller, sales were growing daily. Adrienne slipped her arm into Katherine’s. “What are you thinking babe?”
Katherine turned to her, taking in the beautiful woman in front of her. “Just looking at what we have, what we’ve done. There was always something about Greece Adie, I never understood what it was, but it was like a siren calling me from the sea. Now this is my home, I’ve never felt more settled than I have here, and that was from day one...... the day I found you. Thankyou Adrienne.”
Adrienne had tears in her eyes, mirroring Katherine’s, as Katherine moved towards her and their lips met in a gentle kiss.
