The Bee Keeper Page 25

by Vincent, Tracy D

Mr. Champlain admitted to having knowledge of the briefcase as well as the death of Mr. James. Knows more than was willing to tell about the contents. Claims to have told Mr. Timo Hauer about the briefcase after giving it to Miss Maya Hauer (Mr. Champlain’s girlfriend).

Also, admitted to having murdered Danielle McDermitt. A family heirloom necklace was found at the victim’s home by the state fire investigator. Admitted to helping mutilate Mr. James’ corpse. Claims all that he’s done was the coercion of Mr. Wrights Sr. and Jr.

The patient was by his nature manipulative and deceitful. There are grains of truth in all his statements, but some of his most honest replies came when he was in intense pain. This is typical of most people.

  PATIENT MAYA EVANGELINE HAUER

  DOB 14/FEB/1990

  DOD 20/NOV/2016 TIME 2046

CAUSE OF DEATH Injection of sulphuric acid in the carotid.

Miss Hauer was brought in by Dr. Staples. Dr. Staples gave her a medicine to induce stomach cramps and vomiting. During the initial questioning by Dr. Staples, she was cooperative. But she showed signs of trying to control the situation. When I started to question her, she was resistant to some questions but to others had no problems with full disclosure. Most of her issues stem from her family. This makes sense given the nature of their business and her being reared in such an environment.

Part of my interrogation involved informing her of the things her family didn’t want her to know. Information about her real grandfather’s identity and her mother’s incestuous love affair and subsequent death. (This is not a usual component of my interrogations, but she needed to be broken from her family in order for anything to work.)

I allowed her to draw her own conclusions about where her father wanted her in the future. She was not in love with Mr. Champlain, but was using him for his political connections. She did not like Mr. Wright, Jr. She was emotionally attached to and sexually involved with the victim, Mr. James.

As far as the death of Mr. James or the theft of the car, the patient was in New Leonsburg and only found out after the fact and had no part in it whatsoever. As far as the briefcase was concerned, she supported Mr. Wright’s and Mr. Champlain’s plans for coercion. This wasn’t in any way to help Mr. Wright, but rather in the hopes for the senator to remove Mr. Timo Hauer from his position so she could then take Mr. Hauer’s place.

Mr. Champlain contacted Ms. Hauer and returned the briefcase back to her, where she placed it in a secured vault only to find that Mr. Hauer removed it in her recent absence.

I found the patient fairly predictable in her mannerisms and disclosures. She was quick to deceive as it pertained to family matters, but it’s almost impossible to change the way one’s trained from infancy. But given the right persuasion, she was fairly straightforward with her disclosures. She was moderately honest and easy to get information from.

  PATIENT TIMO SEBASTIAN HAUER

  DOB 14/FEB/1966

  DOD 21/NOV/2016 TIME 1831

CAUSE OF DEATH Traumatic rectal hemorrhaging

Mr. Hauer came to the office of his own volition after a call to Dr. Staples. He was informed that his daughter Maya Hauer was here under Dr. Staples’ care. He came in order to pick up his daughter. Once in office, Dr. Staples administered a sedative to Mr. Hauer and his three bodyguards. After they all fell asleep, Ms. Staples injected the three guards with succinylcholine and had their bodies removed.

Dr. Staples had Mr. Hauer bound to the exam table out of fear of her safety. With Mr. Hauer’s past violence toward women, this was very reasonable. When I came into the room, Mr. Hauer was alert and distraught. I had him released from his bindings where we discussed my identity and what information about the briefcase that I needed from him. He was not forthcoming and instead attacked me when I mentioned that Miss Hauer was the one who told me he had it last. I injected him with a dose of propofol. Once secured to the standing exam table face down, I injected him with epinephrine.

He awoke and was quite resistant and hostile. Eventually, he admitted to many different crimes, including the murder of his wife, Nicola Hauer, née Scarelli. He admitted to the rape of the underage Elizabeth Fawkes, and that he had killed her father, Clive Fawkes, approximately two decades before. When asked if he knew he was Angela Fawkes’ father, as mentioned earlier in the report, he admitted that he knew and was uncaring about her mother or her welfare. Eventually gave the location of the briefcase, but also informed me that the senator has known the briefcase’s location for approximately two weeks.

I found this patient to be quite belligerent and self-involved. He was verbally abusive and threatening, even with the modified Pear of Anguish inserted rectally. His ability for honesty hinged on his own benefit. If he found honesty to benefit him, he was honest to a fault. However, the patient was completely delusional as to his own importance, as well as to how his actions affected those around him.

CAUSE OF DEATH Asphyxiation and burn trauma

(CASE NOTES BY DR. MEGHAN STAPLES AS DR. JACK MILLER WASN’T PRESENT FOR THE WHOLE INTERROGATION. ALL AUDIO AND VIDEO FEED CORRUPT.)

The senator was brought in to discuss an open case worked on by Dr. Miller and me. Dr. Miller was present for this portion of the meeting. He listened to all the evidence given as it pertained to the briefcase and disclosed no remorse over the loss of his son, nor his long-standing intern. At such time, Dr. Miller vacated the room and I started to point out new evidence fingering him as a pivotal character in this investigation.

He was reticent to disclose appropriate information and due process was administered. He was defiant until the end but was rendered speechless by the final piece of evidence. Senator Wright succumbed to acute trauma to his person by fire and lack of oxygen.

(FINAL NOTES BY DR JACK MILLER)

  25/JAN/2017

The informal Department for Interrogative Science housed within the Department of Science and Technology has been officially dismantled. All personnel has been notified. All documents regarding past cases have been corrected to not incriminate the employed. These documents remains in my care until such a time as I might need them, or until my death. Whichever occurs first.

The staff in the department are safe from investigation into the disappearances of all involved in this case, because Mr. Champlain had a bit of information leaked to news sources outside of the influence of the senator or the Scarelli family. This includes several of the unfortunate situations and deaths that are mentioned in the transcripts as well as a multitude of others that were not. This parcel of information also included the contents of the briefcase that was held by Mr. Hauer. Mr. Champlain did not give the briefcase over to Ms. Hauer as previously thought, but rather kept it with all the other evidence. It was handed over upon his disappearance.

As of this time, all evidence points to three probable outcomes. Either the senator and Mr.
Hauer took each other out, or one took the other out and is in hiding, or they are both in hiding. Either way, this department is safe and is currently no more.

  Signing out,

  Dr. Jackson Bartholomew Miller

There are many things I need to say here, so please, bear with me. First of all, a book is never written by only one person. Sure, I wrote the words, but without help from my friends and associates, they wouldn’t be nearly so pretty or palatable.

So, I’d love to thank my alpha “whore” Amber Shepherd for reading it first in its most raw state. Without her, this story wouldn’t be nearly what it is.

I need to thank my Critique Partners, Neeny Boucher, Cherry Ravanera, and Laura Konrad. Each of you ladies helped me with honing my voice and pointing out my weaknesses. A special thank you to Cherry for helping me with the medical end of this. I picked her brains apart and she was patient and other than the token concern for my grey matter, she came through like a champ. Without her, this story wouldn’t have a hint of realism.

I want to also thank my Editor, Sara Meadows. I was so nervous handing this story over to her because this is not the sort of works that she edits. I’m ever so grateful that she gave me a shot.

I need to thank my cover artist, Suzanne Smith, at Funky Book Designs for my amazing cover. She took the thoughts in my head that I struggled to convey and put them into an image. Bless you!

Melissa Haag started me down this road by encouraging me to start a book review blog. WHICH lead me to Katie Papilio. Katie had faith in my ability to edit before I ever thought of anything like it. She also encouraged me to write my first story…and my second…and my third… Without these two ladies, I’d still be reading books at an alarming rate without putting my own stories out there. So, thank you both.

No acknowledgement would be complete without thank my family for dealing with my crazy days of wearing headphones to kill the noise of the house, nights of popcorn for supper, and piled up laundry. Most of all, I want to thank my husband. He was my original sounding board and probably could write this story as well as I did. He knew Jack and all my characters before everyone else.

And last, but most certainly, not least. I want to thank Jack “Dirtbag” Hinton. A year ago, I sat in front of him to get a tattoo and it inspired me to write this story. Just so everyone is clear, I named my character Jack after him, in homage, but that’s where the resemblance ends. Please don’t think he’s as cold and calculating. Because he isn’t, he has a big heart.

Tracy D. Vincent is just a small-town woman from western Kentucky. Her love of all things text evolved into book review blogging. This gained the attention of Katie Papilio from Dryden House Publishing and she offered Tracy a job editing. From there, Tracy branched out into writing. She doesn’t just write horror and science fiction. She also writes romance under the pen name Ann T. Cee.
