PUBLIC LIBRARIES WORTH A VISIT
Boston Public Library, Boston, MA: The second-largest library in the US was also the first to create a children’s section, which opened in 1895 and contained over 3,000 books.
Central Library, Los Angeles, CA:
Celebrated for its architecture and its size, this is the third largest central library in the US.
The Floating Library, Minnesota:
It’s a library on a boat!
Homer Public Library, Homer, Alaska:
Sustainable by design, this library is made of recycled local material.
Library of Congress, Washington, DC:
The largest library in the world is none other than the LOC; it has millions of books and reference materials in its collection.
McAllen Public Library, McAllen, Texas:
Once a WalMart, this former-big-box retail space is now home to two football fields’ worth of books.
New York Public Library, New York, NY:
The Big Apple boasts the largest public library system in the country, with 92 locations helping 17 million people each year.
Peterborough Public Library, Peterborough, NH:
This public library is the oldest in the world! It was founded in 1833, when a local reverend used public funds to create a place where anyone could borrow a book for free.
Provincetown Public Library, Provincetown, MA:
The building began as a Methodist church built in 1860, and now it’s the town library and on the National Register of Historic Places; it also houses a model of a schooner, the Rose Dorothea, inside.
Seattle Public Library, Seattle WA:
This modern-looking building opened in 2004 and offers patrons an amazing skylight and a four-level book spiral, in addition to its collection.
