“Trust me, I’m just fine. I would have come any second if you didn’t finish—then I would have felt bad. You can make it up to me next time.”

Next time? she thought to herself. Wow, he already has plans for the next time. What does he think, that I am going to be his mistress? After she thought about it, after that sex session, she would be a fool not to. They lay there cuddling for a bit longer, until they were both fast asleep.

About an hour later she woke up, and saw the time. She knew that she should have been home long ago and she must have completely lost her mind. She had to be on her way to work in a few hours. She looked for her shirt that was somewhere on the side of the bed, and she picked it up. As she pulled it over her head, she still couldn’t believe that she was sitting on the edge of Trevor’s bed, half-naked. All the thoughts racing through her head weren’t even making sense to her. All she knew was she had changed her life forever.

Just as she pulled her skirt on, she felt Trevor moving in the bed. He had still been asleep as she was getting herself dressed.

“Where are you sneaking off to?” he groaned as he looked at the clock.

He sat up and she felt his arms embrace her from behind and his lips touched her neck.

“Trevor, I have to get home.”

“I was hoping you would stay the night with me.”

“I can’t. I have to get home. And the night is gone—it’s the morning time.”

“OK, I will take you. I don’t want you to take a cab this time of night.”

It was 4:45 A.M. on a weeknight, and Chrasey felt a guilt she had never felt before in her life. It wasn’t just her husband who was probably pissed off and possibly worried sick, but her children, whom she hadn’t prepared for school the next day. Here she was in some guy’s bedroom—a man she hardly knew.

Her friends didn’t even know she was there. At around 1:30 A.M., while they were all still at the club, Chrasey had walked over to the table that she and her girlfriends were stationed at and told them that she was going to get something to eat with Trevor. Of course, Jordan advised her otherwise, and once Chrasey made it clear that it was too late, she had already said she would go, Jordan warned her and told her she’d better be careful with this guy. Dakota told her to be careful and have fun, and Lexia cheered her on, telling her at least she was lucky to leave with a man instead of, and unlike, the three women she came in with. She knew when she walked out that she and Trevor may end up having something to eat, but they weren’t going to a restaurant.

She had two missed calls on her cell phone, one from Jordan’s house at 2:30 A.M., and one from Dakota’s cell phone at about 2:00 A.M. She wasn’t trying to call anyone back this time of morning; besides, she knew she couldn’t face anyone. On the car ride home, Trevor and Chrasey shared the most uncomfortable silence. He knew that because she was heading home, what she had done was probably making her feel guilty. He reached over and touched Chrasey’s leg, and just lightly caressed it as if to say, it’s going to be OK. The touch made the emotions surface even more, and her eyes began to tear. The rest of the ride, Chrasey cried silently to herself and Trevor didn’t even notice.

  The Morning After

Chrasey came in the house, and all the lights were out except the one in the living room. She didn’t hear a peep, except the noise from the refrigerator in the kitchen. As she tippy-toed through the house she noticed that the living room light was on. She stopped in her tracks, and realized there was no noise coming from in there, so she figured someone just left the light on. She went ahead and continued to walk lightly toward the living room to turn the light out. As soon as she reached out to hit the switch, she saw Keith sitting on the couch watching television in complete silence. When she looked at the screen, he was watching an old Martin episode, and the television was muted. It was obvious that he was listening to Chrasey creeping in the house. It was 5:00 in the morning, and on any other night Keith would have been asleep. She knew that he was waiting up for her, and even though he said nothing, the look he gave when he looked up at her made it clear that he was pissed off that she was walking in at that time of morning.

The nerve of him, she thought at first—he does this all the time. He was unable to take his own medicine, and he wanted her to feel bad. She refused to feel bad, so she held her head high and walked out of the living room. She went upstairs to the bedroom and started to take her clothes off. She knew Keith would probably spend the rest of the night on the couch, refusing to come upstairs and sleep in the bed with her.

Once she was done putting on her nightgown, she got in the bed and lay down under the covers. Even with it being way past her usual bedtime, she couldn’t go to sleep. She couldn’t get the thoughts of her and Trevor’s evening out of her mind. She replayed the whole act in her mind. She was remembering the touches, the sweet sayings, the caresses, the kisses, and his hard body.

After she finished envisioning the memory from only an hour ago, her mind started to race with a mixture of regretful feelings and satisfying thoughts. She knew she had started something she wasn’t sure she was ready for. She hoped she wouldn’t start feeling like some young schoolgirl with a crush. She questioned if he would soon fade away, now that he got what he wanted. Her only solace was that Trevor wasn’t the only one who got what he wanted—so did she. She not only wanted that, she needed that. Keith had neglected her for so long, she yearned for the attention. Physically and mentally she had needed someone for a long time, even if only for one night.

Only two hours had passed when Chrasey heard the voices of her children less than two feet away. They had come into her bedroom to request their breakfast. It was way past the time she usually got them up for school. And of course Keith didn’t bother to wake her—she figured he just didn’t want her to ask him to drive the kids to school for her. Kelsey was rubbing her face up against Chrasey’s like a little kitten.

“Mommy,” she whined ... “I’m hungry.”

“Go tell your father,” she whined back.

“He said to come tell you,” Quinton interjected.

Chrasey hated it when Keith would do this type of stuff. She was so tempted to send a not-so-nice message back to him, but she didn’t want to put her kids in between their nonsense.

With resistance, she rose from the bed and dragged her feet out of the bedroom and down the stairs into the kitchen. As she passed the living room, she saw Keith sitting there watching sports highlights on Fox 5. He didn’t even look up at her, even though he knew it was her because the kids didn’t make that much noise when they walked. She just wanted to slap him in the back of the head with her slipper.

She decided to go the lazy route and make the kids a bowl of cereal because cooking was just out of the question. She reached into the cabinet to pull out the box of Fruity Pebbles and a bunch of other food items fell out behind it. Chrasey knelt down to try to pick them up while still holding the box of cereal in her hand.

“Daddy, come help Mommy ... she can’t pick it all up,” Kelsey yelled to Keith.

Keith ignored Kelsey, just as he had the noise from when the food fell in the first place.

Now Chrasey was mad. She picked up all the contents from the floor, with the help of Kelsey and Quinton, and continued making their breakfast. Once she was done and the kids were at the kitchen table eating, she walked to the doorway of the living room to where Keith was.

  “Why didn’t you answer Kelsey?”

At first he didn’t say anything.

  “Keith!” she said louder.

  “What?” he snapped.

“Why didn’t you answer Kelsey?” she repeated.

“You were fine—you could handle it,” he said with an attitude.

“You could have come to check, and even if you were so sure, you still could have answered your daughter.”

  “Yeah, whatever.”

“Whatever nothing—you need to stop involving them in your issues.”

  “I
don’t have any issues,” he quickly snapped back.

“This morning they asked you to make them breakfast, and you sent them to me?”

  “Yeah, so?”

“Well, you knew I was still sleep—why couldn’t you just do it?”

“Because your ass shouldn’t have been out so late, and you would have been up just fine.”

Chrasey knew that him sending the kids to wake her was just a small opportunity to punish her for her late night out.

“Well, as you see, I got up. That’s not a problem for my kids, no matter what time I came in. The principle is sending them to me—you should have done it if they asked you.”

“You do things your way, and I’ll do mine. Now if you don’t mind, I’m watching something.”

Once again, she wanted to just smack him in the back of his neck.

She walked back to the kitchen where the kids were finishing up their cereal. Once she saw they were oblivious to her and Keith’s conversation, she turned to go back upstairs.

“Put your bowls in the sink when you’re done, and come upstairs,” she said to them.

Chrasey sat on the edge of the bed trying to gather all of her thoughts and reflections from last night. After about a minute or so, she noticed her cell phone blinking. She reached over and read that it was Trevor who had called her. Eager to see what he had to say, she called her voice mail to retrieve the message.

“Hey, Chrasey, it’s me, Trevor. Just wanted to call and see how you were doing ... I had fun last night, and I hope you did, too. I woke up this morning feeling like a new me. I hope you’re OK, and I hope you’ll call me when you get a chance.”

She was happy to hear that Trevor cared enough to call, although she was surprised that he wasn’t afraid to call her cell phone, even when he knew she was at home. Chrasey’s decision to go through with it last night was a milestone moment—it was so unlike her and everything she stood for. After hearing the message, it made her feel a little bit better. At least Trevor was a sweetheart. The whole time during sex, he did everything a man could do to make a woman feel good. Including calling early the next morning just to check up on her.

Chrasey had closed her cell phone to hang it up and place it back on the table. Inside and out, she was a new Chrasey as well. The old Chrasey had walked out the door last night to go hang out with her girls, but the new one came home at 5:00 this morning after cheating on her husband. Although Chrasey knew that she had changed overnight, and she was starting to feel good about it, she knew that she had to keep Keith from noticing that she had swapped his wife.

  Let Me Work It

The next morning Jordan arrived at work and noticed a card on her table with a single rose.

“Thanks for overlooking my stupidity. Maybe I should listen to you more, need to take it easy with my drinking. You don’t know how much your friendship means to me. Love ya, Jayon.”

Jordan was flattered yet upset because all she wanted was to put what happened that day behind her. Besides, why was he even still bringing it up—it was the past. She knew that Jayon was upset with himself because of what happened, and that he truly didn’t mean to be disrespectful to her or Omar. He had already admitted he had too much to drink that night, and told her how apologetic he was. She couldn’t really be mad at him—she knew what a caring person Jay was, and he probably was beating himself up for his slipup. Jordan was still feeling bad, because she hadn’t even told Omar yet. She had every intention of telling him as soon as she found a way to make him more comfortable about it.

She started her usual morning office routine, checking her e-mail and voice mail and sorting her desk for all the work for the day. Just as her paralegal brought her a cup of coffee, inquiring about the gossip behind the rose and card she received, her phone rang. She could see in the Caller ID it was Dakota, so she answered it.

“Have you heard from Chrasey?” Dakota said as soon as Jordan answered.

“No,” Jordan replied. “And I really don’t want to right now. I called her that Saturday night and there was no answer.”

“Me, too—she may have been in bed by then. I didn’t get around to calling her again until late last night, and she didn’t answer again—she was probably asleep. I didn’t want to call the house.”

“Well, I just hope she made it home that night and not back to that boy’s place.”

“Oh, ease up on her, J. She is a grown woman and she needs the attention. God knows she ain’t getting it at home.”

“Well, then, she should go to counseling with Keith, not go to see Trevor.”

“Jordan, not everyone is as righteous and perfect as you,” Dakota said mockingly. “She is our best friend—let’s just try to understand she is going through a lot.”

“Whatever. I have nothing more to say about it then,” Jordan said.

“Well, I am getting a little worried. I called and checked up on her last night like she knew one of us would, and she didn’t answer. I didn’t hear from her all day yesterday, and now I just called her at work and she is not picking up her phone. I hope Keith didn’t murder her,” Dakota said.

  “Don’t say that,” Jordan replied.

“I’m just joking. I am just saying, I’m surprised Chrasey didn’t call us right away to share what happened with us.”

“Call you maybe—you know she wouldn’t call me right away because she probably don’t want to hear my mouth ... and you know she made it home because Keith would have called one of us by now.”

“Well, neither one of us has heard from her—I’m about to keep calling her until I get a hold of her.”

“Call me if and when you get her,” Jordan said, and they hung up.

Jordan reflected on what Dakota had said, about Chrasey not getting attention at home and having to get it somewhere. In Jordan’s home, that was probably the way Omar felt, and she started to wonder if she could be causing him to stray. She had these thoughts before, that he might feel neglected and seek some attention outside of the marriage. Usually she would just shrug those thoughts off because she had no time to worry about Omar cheating. However, after hearing Dakota justify Chrasey’s actions with that logic, she began to really think about how Omar was handling her busy schedule.

As she tried to continue her work, her mind was being consumed with a variety of thoughts. She wasn’t really worried about Chrasey—she figured she was fine and just needed some time to herself. Jordan was worried about Omar, though. She picked up the phone and called him at work.

  “Hey, baby,” she said.

  “Hey.”

“Let’s play hooky today,” she said, almost matter-of-factly.

  “What?” he replied.

“I will finish up some work and you can meet me at home by noon.”

  “Baby, I can’t. It’s busy today.”

“Omar, come on. We haven’t had much time together. It will mean a lot to me.”

After a few seconds, he agreed.

Now she had work to do. Her heart was pounding. She was like a teenager who was just asked to the prom by the football captain. She was all flustered, trying to take care of all the things that had to be done before she left.

When Dakota called to tell her Chrasey was OK and was at home, Jordan quickly ended the phone call with “spare me the details right now. As long as she’s OK, we will talk later.”

She told Jackie to take messages for the day and to inform clients she was at a meeting. Once she was done with work, she jumped in her X5 and headed straight for the kinky sex stores in the village. She was going to make sure Omar was getting it at home, and getting it good.

Ever since Jason was born, Jordan felt like her marriage was at a standstill. Once she went back to work, her biggest task was trying to juggle being a mother, wife, and a lawyer. All three being big jobs, she felt incapable of doing them all. She cried so many days and nights because the stress was overwhelming. One day when she figured in order to keep her sanity she had to fo
cus on one thing at a time, somehow her career became that one thing. She never quite got around to her home life.

With no intention of neglecting her husband, somehow that’s what was happening. Omar built his career as a restaurateur and because he was the owner he made his own hours. Due to this he was the one who picked up their son, fed him, and did a lot of the typical motherly duties. Sometimes when Jordan would come home on time, he would head to his restaurant to check up on it and do more work, but for the most part he worked 9:00 to 5:00. Most nights she had so much work to do at the office she would get home about 9:00 or 10:00. By then he was tired and would go to bed, or he would leave to go help close up his restaurant while she spent what was left of Jason’s evening with him. She did make it a priority to try to have some time with her son every night, most nights just reading him to sleep or helping him with homework. This routine of hers resulted in her and Omar barely having sex and they had very little quality time together. With all the issues her career was causing, there was a lot of unspoken resentment from Omar.

That’s why, right then and right there, she decided she was going to give it to him like he’d never had it before. When she hung up from Dakota, she started to think about all of what Omar had been through with her. While driving to and from the village to visit the sex stores, she thought about the changes she wanted to try to make at home. She wanted him and Jason to come first at all times. She would try to be home every night in time for dinner with her husband and son. She was definitely going to make it a point to keep Omar happy, and try to let him know that he comes before her career.

So as she stood there in her sexy construction worker outfit that she got from the sex store, she had plans to put in some hard work. It was daylight, so there was no room for candles and all the romantic sounds. There is nothing like some loving in the middle of the afternoon, and she wanted to cut the romance and make it straight sex, no chaser. Omar walked in the bedroom to find Jordan in an orange-and-gray construction hat, some blue booty shorts with a work belt hanging, and a ripped white wifebeater. On the stereo she was playing Missy Elliot’s perfect-for-the-occasion “Let Me Work It.” He stood at the door watching her practice how she was going to work it, admiring her every move. She turned around to bend over and found him watching her. Embarrassed as all hell, she fell to the floor, laughing. Without saying a word, he walked over to the bed and lay down, ready for his action. He had never seen Jordan wear anything like this before, and it caused him and his manhood to pay full attention to what she had in store.
