A Chance On Love (A World Apart Book 1) Page 19

by Laura B. Martinez

“He’s here.” It’s all the henchman gets to say before I slit his throat with my blade. The gurgling noise of blood seeping through the gash on his neck, the only sound invading the room.

This man’s death is slow and painful, just as Allan’s will be and I want him to have a taste of what’s in store for him. It’s been nine months since I started hunting him, the last time I spoke to Geoffrey he begged me to let them help, but I refused. I don’t want anyone’s help. I know not using my usual resources would take longer, but I don’t care. All I want is for Allan to know that I’m coming for him. Just me, and there’s nothing that’ll stop me until I drain the last drop of his blood out of his body. He needs to know, that the fact that we share a father, doesn’t mean anything to me. All that matters is that he’s responsible for the death of the first woman I ever loved, and even if it costs me my own life, he’ll die first. And then we’ll meet in hell.

When the man is about to take his last breath, I pull the phone away from his face and closer to my ear. Allan doesn’t end the call, instead, I can hear his heavy breathing.

“You’re next.” I get up and throw the phone over the guy’s body, knowing the number will be useless in a matter of minutes. Taking a final look around the room, I make a mental calculation. Eight more bodies, forty-seven in total. I’ve never liked odd numbers, so I’ll need one more kill tonight to make it even.

The funny thing about blinking is that we do it without thinking, without effort. Unless we start thinking about it. Try it. Think about how many times you’ve blinked and it will start feeling unnatural. Like you’re obsessing about it.

To me, killing has always been as natural as blinking. The difference was that I used to overthink it and always tried to justify it by killing people that were the same as me.

That’s why I don’t think. Not anymore. I used to care about being a monster, until someone unleashed the worst part of the beast.

Now, I only have one purpose, the one that feeds me, that fuels the beast. The only thing that keeps me breathing.

  Vengeance.

To my badass betas: Tanya, Vivian, Jenny and Jake, thank you for all your feedback, this book wouldn’t be half as good as it turned out if it weren’t for you.

Sybil, this was the first cover I asked you to make for me and I never thought I’d find a new friend while doing so, but I’m glad I did…we share a love for tortured book boyfriends, music and movies…and also weird sh*t…and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Angela, thank you so much for being another pair of eyes when ours would no longer work. I wish you all the best in your new endeavors.

Claire Marta, thank you for your all your help and also thank you to your husband for answering all my silly questions at odd hours.

I’m becoming a better writer because of you, and I’m also becoming a better person…I love you and I can’t wait to keep reading your beautiful words…and for your daily updates, you know which ones I’m talking about.

Thank you to all of you, who bought, read or review this book. I always tell my readers that I write for me, but if I didn’t had you to read my stories, it wouldn’t be as half as fun as it is when I get all your messages about them.

I hope you love this book as much as I do and I can’t wait to show you more.
