Vernon closed the door behind him as he entered the vehicle.

“Do you want me to kill him?” The man behind the wheel asked.

Vernon hesitated. After a moment he replied. “No, not yet. But keep your people on him. If he goes anywhere near my daughter…handle your business.”

“The damn check bounced!” Trish yelled into the phone.

Connor wanted to laugh. He had to give it to Isaac. He may be an asshole, but he was one with a wicked sense of humor.

“Ms. Hargrove, I can only conclude, my superior was not satisfied with your performance. However, the million you received upfront will have to sustain you.”

“How in the hell am I supposed to live off of this?”

“A job might be a good start.”

  “This was not the agreement.”

“You can always sue us,” Connor grinned. “How much did you get from Nicole Brooks? I believe the judge awarded you one dollar.” He couldn’t hold back, he laughed, then he sobered. “Be satisfied with the million, Ms. Hargrove. Trust me on this.” He disconnected the call.

Cannon stood, looked out of his office window and shook his head. “Round one to the Brooks’. Now what?”

  Richmond, VA

Trish slammed the telephone down. What in the hell was she going to do? Her father cut her off. The money in her trust fund plus the million from Conner would not last forever. “I will get you for this Connor. I will.”

Trish pulled a bottle of wine from the cooler, then turned to the television that was on in the kitchen. She poured wine into the glass just as Grant Hutchinson appeared on the screen. She picked up the remote and turned up the volume.

“It is because of this type of corruption that I stand before you today announcing my candidacy for Mayor of the great city of Richmond.”

A smile began to form on Trish’s lips. She picked up her cell phone, pulled up the internet. Once she found what she was looking for she dialed a number.

“Hello, I would like to volunteer to work on Mr. Hutchinson’s campaign.”

  Manhattan, NY

It was well after midnight and neither was ready to call it a night. Xavier sat on the balcony, wrapped in a blanket, with Nicole in his lap. They were enjoying the view of the Manhattan skyline. It was a crisp night, but the heat between them was electric.

“I can’t believe Ellington is trying to get in on the new deal in London,” Xavier shook his head at the news.

Nicole pulled his arms tighter around her. “That’s not all that came out of the conference call with Steven. He liked the idea of doing a project like London here in the United States. In fact, he thinks Washington DC would be a good place to start.”

“I think it would be a good place to start. It will put you near your parents while they deal with the situation Isaac Singleton has created.”

Nicole nodded. “I want to be there to support them and Vernon in any way I can.”

“Yes, well with any luck, Vernon will not have to deal with Constance.”

“She’s not going away that easy. I’ll just settle for her being out of Taylor’s life.” She smiled at him. “I know this will sound crazy, but I feel bad for Connie and Trish.”

  Xavier frowned. “Why?”

“They want what we have, but don’t have a clue how to get it.”

“Exactly what is it that we have?”

“Love,” she sent him a sexy glance as she wiggled against him, “and other things.”

  “Other things, hmm.”

He lifted then penetrated her from behind, her back lying on his chest. Her head resting against his shoulder as his fingers gently stroked her nub as his other hand massaging her breast. The sensations flowing through them were at the brink of combustion.

Xavier kissed her neck. “You know what I’m feeling?”

Unable to speak, Nicole shook her head.

“I’m feeling the merging of sin and sensuous energy.”

She released a small gasp of laughter as fingers increased the pace.

“You, Nicole Brooks, breathe life into every moment of my existence,” he laughed with her. “You have me creating words, for there are none in the English dictionary to describe what I feel when I’m with you. I love you just isn’t enough.” He moved his body beneath her to the slow rhythm of his thumb against her nub. “Say it with me Nicole. Say what I need to hear.”

The slow movement of him inside of her and his thumb was too much to bear. The blood rushed through her body, her head fell back and the word he wanted to hear escaped her lips. “Sinergy.”
