“Okay.” Alex shrugged, walking into the room. “But we had to leave early.”
“Mommy was getting tired,” Nox teased as he patted Alex’s tummy.
“I saw Daddy yawn a couple of times too,” she retorted.
“God, we’re getting old,” Nox said, laughing. “So how did it go?”
“That girl is going to grow up to be a hostage negotiator,” Isaac joked.
“Thanks again for watching her,” Alex said.
“No problem,” Isaac told her.
“You two are welcome to stay here tonight,” Nox offered. “It’s a long drive back to the city.”
A half-hour later, I was pacing around one of their guest rooms, poring over Isaac’s confession in my mind. The door opened, allowing a sliver of light to penetrate the dark room. Isaac slipped inside before quietly closing the door. I held my breath as he walked toward me. His hands reached for my shoulders but I pulled away.
“It doesn’t make sense,” I started, continuing to pace. “You said that you’ve liked me since you saw me in California, yet when I kissed you in the apartment, you pushed me away.”
“I was an idiot,” he stated. “I thought that you kissed me because you saw me as your rescuer.”
“No,” I declared. “You kept sending me signals. The things you were doing... they just didn’t seem like the actions of a bodyguard. I was attracted to you, not because you were my rescuer but because you were sexy and protective and nice. I kissed you because I wanted to. And because I thought you wanted me to.”
“I did want you to,” he admitted. “I guess I wasn’t very good about hiding my feelings for you.”
“Then why did you push me away?”
“Because I’m a stubborn ass. I thought that it was wrong. You were Miss Collin's friend and I was her boyfriend’s bodyguard. It just didn’t seem right.”
“What’s changed?” I questioned. “Why does it seem right to you now when it didn’t then?”
“Now,” he started, moving closer. “I don’t give a fuck whether it’s right or wrong. I want you, Chelsea Moore.”
“Then you should take me,” I whispered.
In an instant, his lips collided with mine and he pulled me down onto the bed. Hands tangled as we tore into the fabric. Our clothes couldn’t come off fast enough. I paused, noticing him take a condom out of his wallet.
“How did you know you were going to need that tonight?” I smirked, raising an eyebrow.
“A good man is always prepared,” he answered, slipping it on.
I didn’t have time to make a retort before his lips were once again on mine. My back arched as he ran his fingers over my nipples. I moaned into his mouth. It had been too long. His hands traveled down my body. I bit my lower lip as his fingers circled my clit, gasping when he plunged two inside of me.
“You’re fucking gorgeous,” he panted, moving his kisses to my neck, pumping his fingers in and out.
I wanted to respond, wanted to tell him that I was thinking the same thing about him, but all I could do was moan. I felt the sensations start to build. I was so close. Just a little more.
Suddenly, his fingers disappeared. He used his knees to push my legs farther apart. “I need to know that you want this.” He paused.
“I want you,” I assured him. With his hands on my hips, he slowly, tenderly, entered me.
“Fuck,” he groaned, plunging deeper. “Are you okay?”
My hands ran down his muscled arms as he held himself up over me. I nodded my head and smiled. “More than okay.”
I gasped as he began to rock in and out, matching my movements to his. My hands moved around to his back, pulling him closer. It didn’t take long for the sensations to start to rebuild. I felt myself moving closer and closer to the edge as he quickened his thrusts.
“Come for me, babe,” he moaned.
His words sent me over the edge, my body tightening around him in rapid contractions. Isaac quickly pressed his lips over mine to muffle the sound of my moans.
“Shit, Chels,” he panted, my orgasm pulling him over the edge with me.

Two Months Later
Standing in Alex’s kitchen, I smiled as I stared at her growing baby bump. I wondered when I would start to show.
“Oh wow,” she gasped, placing a hand on her tummy. “I think I just felt the baby move.”
“Already?” I asked, my eyes growing wide. “What does it feel like?”
“It kind of feels like there is a bag of popcorn popping in my tummy.”
“Does it hurt?” I questioned, resisting the urge to place a hand on my own midsection.
“No,” she answered quickly. “It just feels weird. Oh, it just moved again. I didn’t feel Angie this early. I hope that doesn’t mean that this one is going to be more active than her. I was kind of hoping for a quiet baby this time around.”
“Do you think that your baby and my baby will be friends?” I asked timidly.
“Your baby?” Alex questioned, whipping her head toward me.
I nodded shyly, taking a sip of coffee.
“Oh my God,” she squealed, wrapping her arms around me. Suddenly, she pushed me away, holding my shoulders at arm's length. “Wait. Are you happy?”
“It was a shock at first,” I admitted. “But yes, I’m happy.”
“What about Isaac?” she asked. “How did he react?”
Biting my lower lip, I confessed, “He doesn’t know yet.”
“How are you going to tell him?”
I sighed. “I don’t know.”
“You should do something cheesy,” she suggested, laughing. “Like put a bun in your oven and wait for him to figure it out.”
“Maybe,” I smiled. “Hold on. I have to pee for the billionth time today.”
She giggled as I walked out of the kitchen. Rounding the corner, I nearly bumped into Isaac. He stood frozen, eyes wide and jaw slack. Shit!
“How much did you hear?”
“You’re pregnant?” he questioned, looking at me.
I nodded my head. Grabbing my hand, he pulled me through the house and out onto the patio.
“When? How? We used protection,” he rambled.
“The doctor’s estimated timeline would mean that it was one of the first couple of times,” I answered. “And protection isn't guaranteed.”
“Are you okay?” he asked, pulling me into a hug. “Is the baby okay?”
“We’re both fine.” I lay my head on his chest. “I have the ultrasound picture in my purse if you want to see it.”
Lowering himself to his knees, he kissed my tummy. “Hey there, little peanut,” he whispered. “I’m your daddy.”
I smiled down at him. He was going to be a good dad. Suddenly, he looked up at me.
“Marry me,” he said.
“What?”
“Marry me,” he repeated. “We’ll go out and buy a ring right now.”
“Isaac...” I sighed. “We can’t get married just because we’re having a baby.”
He took both my hands, his expression earnest. “I don’t want to marry you because you're pregnant. I want to marry you because of all those things I said the night that we made this little one. The baby is just speeding up the timetable a bit. Chelsea Marie Moore, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you please do me the tremendous honor of becoming my wife?”
“Yes,” I said, beaming as warmth filled my heart.
