“Kitten,” I said.
“Mmm.”
I flipped us over, spread her legs, and pushed my dick inside her. I didn’t think it could get any harder for her. “God, you feel so good. I can’t get enough.”
She smiled, rubbed her sleepy eyes. “It’s because I’m not pregnant.”
“No, it’s because you’re…you’re it for me.”
This got her attention, and she finally opened her eyes. I fucked her with lazy strokes, waiting for her deep green eyes to pale. And they paled almost instantly. Because my kitten responded so well. To me. The guy who couldn’t imagine ever waking up next to a woman. After Sienna had mated, I thought I’d return to my bunker and die old and alone. But I wouldn’t. I had a woman. I kissed her pouty mouth.
Kitten’s breaths hitched as I picked up my pace. We said nothing to each other. I didn’t know how she’d come to be on Earth. She didn’t know a thing about me. But I didn’t care about our history; I cared about the paleness in her eyes, the flicker of hope I’d seen in them when I’d met her and she smelled her Alpha on my clothes. I cared about today, when I got ready to leave for Retreat, Texas. I cared about what she’d do while I was gone. I cared that she pushed her hips to meet my thrusts, and I definitely cared about our kids. I needed to bring them into a world where humans integrated into the society, where they’d go to school and teach the beast fuckers how to play baseball, and if I had a baby girl, some motherfucker better not ask me to sell her.
But most of all, I cared about making a future for Felicia. She’d given me a new life. I would never die old and alone.
“John,” she sighed. “What are you thinking about?”
I fucked her faster, then rose onto my hands.
She liked when I did that. Her eyes paled further. God, she was beautiful. “I’ll tell you later.”
She arched her back and met my thrusts, and when I felt the walls of her pussy fluttering around my dick, I knew she must be close. “You want my seed?”
“Yes, mate.”
“Come and get it.”
She bit her lip. My balls slapped her ass so hard, I thought they might break. I hooked an elbow under her knee and brought it up so I could spread her open. I looked down and pounded her golden pussy. My balls tightened and drew up, and her pussy knew. Damn, she knew and clamped around my cock like a vise. “Jesus,” I said and released my load as Kitten’s scream pierced the room.
I leaned back and looked down at my dick. It was covered in pussy juice and my cum. I stroked it. “I’m in a permanent state of arousal.”
Kitten chuckled. “I’m not pregnant. That’s why.”
“How long till you get pregnant?”
“Only the Beast Mother knows.”
“I’m a Christian,” I said.
She shrugged. “The heat can pass without pregnancy.”
“How long?”
“A few days. Why? Aren’t you enjoying yourself?”
I gave her a stern look. “You please me. Don’t doubt it, you hear?”
“Yeah.” She looked away and asked, “Would you like some breakfast?”
“Would you?”
“Yes.”
“Human or beef?”
Her eyes widened.
I grinned and got out of bed. “Kidding. Eggs?”
“Sure.”
“Do we have a kitchen around here?”
“John, are you going to cook for me?”
I put on my jeans. “Yeah.”
“You know how to cook, then.”
“Yeah.” Where the fuck was my belt? I looked around.
Kitten got out of bed and bent, coming away with my belt. She passed it to me, a strange expression on her face. “What is it?” I asked.
“A male beast who cooks for his female is usually a submissive male.”
I wound my belt about my waist. “A man who cooks for his woman is usually trying to get laid.” I loved making her smile. “You have warped ways with gender roles. I don’t have those issues. I like to cook, and I like to get laid. It doesn’t make me a submissive, it makes me a regular guy. Now, tell me, is it because I didn’t spank you last night, hm? You’re afraid you’ll end up bossing me around in the bedroom when what you really want is for me to take control?”
Kitten nodded.
I stepped closer and gripped her neck. “In time, we will find our place. I am not a beast male, and I never will be. I’m your man, and I do what I want.”
“You make me so hot, John.”
“I know.” I squeezed her neck tighter and brought her to me so I could taste her again. Kitten opened immediately, kissed me back, and moaned. So responsive. I wanted to bend her over and bury myself in her again. I stuck a finger in her pussy. It came away wet. Kitten plastered her body to mine, wanting to crawl all over me. I lifted her up and slapped her ass.
Her eyes brightened.
I slapped it again.
“Oh, John, we’ll never leave this room.”
Alarms blared through the fortress. Kitten covered her ears, a pained expression on her face. I put her down. “Get dressed.”
In record speed, I got my boots and shirt on. Thinking the worst, I searched the room for my shotgun. Fuck. Couldn’t carry inside the fortress. They’d stored my weapon. The image of an army of Men of Earth outside, arrows pointed on the fortress, went through my head. My daughter and my mate were in here. I better do something about it.
“Alpha Beast to the labor room,” Lers’s voice carried through the speakers.
Kitten squealed. “The heirs are coming!”
Howls came from outside, and once Kitten threw on black tights, a T-shirt, and leather boots, we followed the army of beasts heading for the med bay. The beasts, half in their battle forms, half human, squeezed inside the elevator. I kept Kitten next to me. She was showing some of her beast too, like the way her jaw slackened to accommodate her bigger teeth. When I ran a hand through her hair, I felt the difference. It was coarse and rough.
Ping.
Finally, we arrived on the floor. People snarled as they pushed past each other, then ran for the med bay. Torrent, their High Priest, blocked the main hallway that led into the reception area. The masses halted. He sighed. “Would everyone please relax?” Beasts tried to shake off their excitement by nodding their heads. And failed. There was so much of…something in the air. I couldn’t explain it, but it got my adrenaline pumping.
“Has anyone seen the Alpha Beast?” Torrent asked.
“What?” Kitten squeaked out.
Oh shit. The big bad would miss the big event.
“In the sauna,” someone shouted.
A smile tugged on my lips. I would cherish this moment.
“Would someone go—” Torrent cut himself off and tilted his head. Next to me, Kitten did the same. They heard something. Within a minute, I heard it too. Pounding. I spun around and eyed the entrance to the stairs. It sounded like an elephant herd was climbing the steps. I thought the fortress might collapse. Sure enough, Alpha Beast emerged, buck naked, water dripping from the mane of white hair. His silver eyes blazed. “Move!”
We parted, because nobody wanted to be run over by a raging elephant. Vice came up behind him. Now, red-eyed Vice was smart. He had a towel around his waist. Torrent shrugged off his priest robes and held them out for Jamie. “There’s plenty of time. Find your peace, or Lers won’t let you inside.”
“The hell he won’t.”
“I will not let you inside.”
Alpha Beast put on Torrent’s robe. As he did, the sleeves ripped. Guy packed some serious muscle. He ignored the tearing and marched down the hall, then disappeared around the corner. Vice took his place and raised his hands. “Everyone. Breathe.”
The beasts lowered their heads and hummed. It was a song, I realized. No words, only music. Touching and totally unexpected. Kitten laced our fingers together and whispered, “If a girl is born of a beast and human pairing, it solidifies our future on Earth. It would confirm
we had followed the strongest male.”
“How so?”
“The Beast Mother.”
“What of her?”
“The Beast Mother blesses a female with a girl child. Rey would get the title of beast mother. Not the Beast Mother, but you get what I mean. There are no beast mothers on Earth. She would be first, and so we would be proven right to have followed Jamie from Tineya. Alpha Nie will lose his mind over it if it’s a girl. I pray for one. All of us pray for a girl.
I shook my head. After all the crap they’d done with the human women, buying them like cattle. Now, it turned out, beasts valued female births more than males. The irony didn’t escape me, but a chuckle did. I tamped it down because I didn’t want it to appear as if I was making fun of Kitten’s faith. I respected her beliefs just as she would mine. Still, for a culture where the strongest male ruled, this bit about girls struck me as ironic.
An hour passed. Beasts lined the well-lit hallway, some sitting on the floor, some restless ones pacing back and forth. A group of them gathered around my son-in-law. They hummed a tune, and I wondered about Sienna. Maybe she was with Lers in the delivery room, helping out? Sienna would make a good nurse.
Kitten and I sat on the floor, our backs to the wall, my arm over her shoulder. If a male gave us a look she didn’t like, she growled at him. They might have taken her claws, but they couldn’t take her spirit. My kitten was feisty, and she’d challenge me about going to Texas. But I couldn’t let her come with me, and I tried not to think about it. The night would fall soon enough. I’d deal with Kitten then.
A scream sounded.
Kitten and I stood.
Silence.
Everyone looked around, thinking they’d imagined it. We waited. And then it came. The newborn’s wail. Goose bumps rose over my skin. The beasts howled so loud, their excitement was palpable. Kitten clutched my hand. Five more babies to go. Torrent lifted his hand and called for silence. They hummed. I hung my head and prayed.
The babies came about five minutes apart, four more of them, one more to go. Alpha Beast rounded the corner and approached. He leaned his back on the wall right behind Torrent. Nobody moved, not even Torrent. He just looked confused.
Alpha Beast didn’t appear well, his skin awfully pale. Hundreds of people stood there, not breathing. I thought the worst. Kitten sniffled. I patted her head. I guessed the sixth baby hadn’t made it. Six was a lot of babies for a human girl. I could only hope Rey made it. I gulped at that thought. Christ.
Alpha Beast tilted his head. Kitten stepped away and did the same.
The baby’s cry sounded, a high-pitched one. The hallway exploded. Beasts jumped up and down like children presented with a truckload of candy. I pulled Kitten, and we made our way to Torrent.
Alpha Beast stood there, blinking. I thought he might collapse. This was not the guy who’d once threatened to slice my throat from ear to ear. This was a regular guy who’d just had six babies. Torrent patted his back. “Jamie?”
“Hm?”
“Do you want to go back inside?”
“I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing. I think, I think…”
A short red-haired girl, Dewlyn, Vice’s mate, came out with a bundle in her arms. She made her way to us. “Rey said you should hold this baby first.”
Alpha Beast stared at the baby, then he parted the blanket and bent to look between the legs. “No balls,” he said.
Dewlyn chuckled. “No balls.” She passed him the baby, and you couldn’t see anything but a small foot resting on his bicep. Alpha Beast seemed smitten. Yup, I was lucky enough to know how that felt. Then he looked up, his eyes pale but not silver. “It’s a girl.”
I thought they’d shout and howl. But they didn’t. They stomped their feet. Alpha Beast nodded and walked the few steps heading out to the patio. He commanded the door to open into a spacious terrace. Outside, more people must’ve gathered as the news spread. The earth must be shaking under their feet. He didn’t walk outside; perhaps he only wanted to hear all his people. As he made his way back inside, I approached him, Torrent on my heels.
I looked at the baby in his arms. A human girl. Not a ridge on her face anywhere, not a trace of the beast’s features. She couldn’t weigh more than a couple of pounds. Reminded me of Sienna when I’d found her. Thinking of my daughter, and the daughters I could possibly make with my mate, I said, “When a real man holds his baby girl, every protective instinct in his body comes to life. If he doesn’t feel that way, then he is no man.”
“Hear,” he said.
Good for him. “What’s her name?”
“Amora. After my brother.”
This must be Goner, the deceased brother. “She is beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
“Looks like her mother.”
“I hope so.”
“How much?”
Alpha Beast pierced me with a stare. It would make any male in here cry. But I had one chance to prove my point, to do something about the fucking Pairing Program I’d detested all my life. He damn well knew what I thought of his program.
“Vice!” he barked.
The baby startled, scrunched up her face, and, and…I cooed, wishing to swipe my finger over her soft cheek. The baby settled back and slept again. “You got a lot to learn,” I told him. He needed some parenting advice.
Alpha Beast cleared his throat. “Like what?”
“You gotta find your baby voice.”
He stared at me.
“Coo, motherfucker. You gotta coo and sing lullabies. Or don’t. But if you don’t, you ain’t getting sleep for a year.”
Alpha Beast thought that over and moved past me. “I’ll think about what you said, John,” he threw back over his shoulder.
Not exactly what I wanted, but enough. I spun around and ran into my mate.
“You hate the Pairing Program,” she said.
“I don’t hate it. I detest it, and I will end it.”
“I think you just did.”
We walked out on the big patio, and I tucked my hand in my pocket. I pulled out my tobacco and some paper while watching the crowds celebrate the big event downstairs. Beasts pushed carts, selling alcohol and cookies through the busy street. The neighboring beasts pitched tents on their front lawn, one guy already flipping burgers. They’d party all night.
I rolled my cigarette, smelling the tobacco. My mate had a sensitive palate. Kissing me would taste like eating cigarette butts. God, it was hard to part with smoking, but I felt like if I didn’t do it for her, I wouldn’t do it for myself either. I threw my stash into the sea and laced my fingers with hers. “I’m leaving for Texas.”
Kitten stood next to me, her chin held high, gaze on the horizon. “How are you getting there?”
“I’ll hitch rides, make stops at taverns along the way, make friends with the right people so I can get back in.”
“How will you know where they are? Nobody knows where their stronghold is.”
“I was with them for a while.”
Kitten stepped back. “What?”
“Mm-hm. I intend to work undercover. Came close to Tom once, but then I had to leave.”
“They’ll suspect something.”
“They’ll listen to what I gotta say. I’ve been careful.”
“It’s risky.”
“I have to make myself valuable. They’ll want information on the babies.”
“You can’t.”
“I’m authorized to use anything at my disposal to retrieve Tom. Anything at all. Talking about the heirs won’t hurt them, but leaving Tom to do his work will hurt them eventually. See the gates?” I pointed. “I want to see the Beast City gates open to humans. I want the roads fixed so they can commute, I want a sanctuary in the middle of this city, I want schools. I want community walls torn down. All of them.”
Clapping sounded, and I spun around. Kitten knew Vice had been there; she must’ve heard him. Red-eyes smirked. “If you stop the Men of Earth movement,
I will do everything in my power to make your wishes so.”
“I’ll get the boat ready,” Felicia said to Vice.
“What boat?” I asked.
“My boat.”
“You have a boat?”
“Yes. My father was a fisherman. I grew up on a boat. Bought one last year. There’s water in Texas, so I’ll dock there and wait for you.”
“Nope.” I shook my head. “It’s too far from here. I move faster on the ground.”
“Yup.” She nodded hers and cocked her hip. “You presume I’m gonna paddle a kayak to Texas. It’s a boat with latest tech, and it travels fast.”
Vice chuckled and left us to it.
“I’m going alone,” I said. “You’re safe here with your people. There are six babies in the fortress. Wouldn’t you want to hold them?”
“I’m docking on the shore near you, mate. If you need a fast way out, I’ll be there.”
“You will wait for me right here.” I pointed at the floor.
She followed my finger, then stepped closer. “I love it when you get bossy. My pussy gets wet. But if you think I’m gonna sit around and wait for my male to come home, I am here to tell you, it’s not happening. I go with my male. We can talk details after I get the boat ready. Later.” She winked, spun around, and left me standing there. I marched after her, but she slipped through the masses. “Felicia!”
Nothing.
“Felicia. Damn it. Come right back! As your mate, I order you to come back.”
Torrent slapped my back. “Good luck with that.”
Fuck. “Felicia! Felicia!” I descended the steps.
“Later,” she said from below.
Oh hell. I was taking backup after all. To be fair, I couldn’t think of a better person to watch my back. A smile tugged on my lips, and I laughed. It was a great day, one of the best ones in my life. And it would be a long life. We’d make sure of it. And hey, maybe I’d get to use my baby voice again sometime in the near future.

Hi, Milana here. I hope you enjoyed these two characters as much as I loved writing them. This was my first human man in a sea of beasts writing experience, and I hope I did him justice. Felicia was a challenge. Her privates gave me a pause. I mean having a sensitive part all around the vaginal entrance? Sounds good to me! =D In any case, if you are into kick-ass heroines, I write a cool and unique urban fantasy that starts with Mediator Seeks. I hope you check it out. So now, Book 5.
