Death Dwellers Motorcycle Club:: Fifteen Bad Boy Biker Books Page 373

by Kathryn C. Kelly

Shit Christopher had made sure to purchase using the money he earned from their lab. He had two bank accounts to match his two lives. He wasn’t exactly sure how the fuck it all worked, but he knew Megan’s house, everything inside it, including her jewelry and clothes, and her car was safe. He wanted the same for the expensive bracelet.

The lab on its own was doing fucking okay. Still not as well as he thought it would be with Brooks Redding no longer receiving an exorbitant retainer. Motherfucker wasn’t even making twenty dollars an hour.

However, for Christopher, something wasn’t adding up. Money seemed to be missing. Either Johnnie was miscounting or stealing. Christopher doubted either. The man wasn’t that fucking stupid. That meant other shit was going on.

Yet…fucking yet…money wasn’t right, not for the lab or the hydrogrow operation or any of their other enterprises. Christopher knew it. Johnnie had audited all the books and said he found no discrepancies with Stretch’s accounting for the club or Johnnie’s for the lab.

Christopher admitted that was possible. Maybe, the money they made hadn’t caught up to the lifestyle he wanted for Megan and his kids. Except it had been fucking fine. Until it wasn’t.

To be fair, Megan hadn’t asked him for the bracelet but this had been another tough fucking year for them that included accusations of him fucking another bitch. Megan, though, his Megan, had believed him. She’d believed in him.

After all that bullshit, he’d gone against her wishes and had a dick snip. It didn’t matter that she was pregnant now. She never would be again and Megan loved babies. All in all, Christopher felt guilty and wanted to see that sparkling motherfucker on Megan’s wrist because she deserved to be showered in diamonds.

He still hadn’t forgotten what the fuck John Boy said about diamonds being above Megan.

Fuck him and his bitch, too.

With everything else going the fuck on, motherfucking Knox wanted to fuck with him. Motherfucker thought he was the shit, flirting with every bitch that crossed his path. Including Megan.

Christopher needed help with this motherfucker before he fucking killed him and ended up sent the fuck to prison for his fucking life. When he’d been in jail for a week, earlier this year, Megan had suffered. The details she’d left out, everyone else had filled him in on. If he was sent away for an extended period of time, Megan wouldn’t survive. Neither would he.

Before her, if he’d been sent away, oh fucking well. It would’ve been an honor, a badge of commitment to his club. He wouldn’t have given a fuck. Now, though, his life’s mission was to take care of his girl. Keep her happy. Protect her. To do that, he had to be free. A long prison term would separate them and break Megan’s heart. For him, being forced away from Megan, would be the same as a death sentence.

Maybe, he was wrong like a motherfucker to enlist Roxy’s help, but she was the only unattached bitch that he trusted who could handle Knox and keep the motherfucker in line, as she reported to Christopher just what the fuck was going on.

If she accepted, then Christopher would play Knox’s game.

  May the best motherfucker win.

“Roxanne, open this motherfucking door,” Outlaw snarled.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Roxy fought back the nausea she went through every day in the hour or so after she took her pill. Talking to Outlaw would distract her. Besides, she wanted to know what had put that note of fury in his voice. “It’s open,” she called.

The club president blew into her room, consuming her small space. He was a tall, beautiful man, whose love for his wife was eternal. It was the kind, Roxy, herself, had always wanted. The closest she’d ever come was K-P.

Outlaw slammed the door closed. “I’ma fuckin’ fuck up that motherfucker.”

  “Who?” she asked.

“Knox fucking Harrington. Motherfuckin’ undercover badge, thinkin’ my ass a fuckin’ assfuck.”

Knox was a cop? He didn’t come across as law enforcement. To her, he was more of a snobby rich boy with an I’m-god-complex than a police officer. He was beautiful, too.

  Roxy groaned at the thought.

Thrusting his hands threw his hair, Outlaw paced.

“Slow down,” she advised, her mind reeling from the announcement. Outlaw couldn’t be right about Knox. She would know. Wouldn’t she? Although she’d never been in trouble, she had lived with K-P for a while, so she knew how to detect trouble. An undercover cop was definitely concern for the club. “What makes you think he’s undercover?”

“It’s a fuckin’ feelin’,” he said, looking as if he wanted to tear through the walls of the room. “John Boy say it ain’t true, but it’s just something…” His voice trailed off and he paused in front of her. “I need your fuckin help, babe.”

Her mother needed her. Kendall needed her. Outlaw needed her, an extraordinary turn-of-events. The holidays were coming up. Being herself again was imperative. “What do you want me to do?” Roxy asked suspiciously. With Outlaw, it could be anything.

“If I tear that motherfucker clothes off and find he fuckin’ bugged, I can fuckin’ kill him, but they just gonna send in another motherfucker. I already told Brooks don’t let him in on shit.”

“Can’t you just fire him?” She wasn’t understanding this at all.

“Johnnie and me working on something with the lab. The girls doin’ shit with their LLC. We settin’ other shit up to funnel some money through. Brooks say he need help with all the fuckin’ paperwork. This motherfucker…Knox…fuck…something about him raisin’ all my goddamn suspicions. Now, he fuckin’ flirtin’ with my girl tryna get me to hack his cock off and send my fuckin’ ass to jail for-fuckin-ever.” He clenched his fists. “I’ma get that motherfucker, if it’s the last fuckin’ thing I fuckin’ do.”

Turning, he kicked the chair to her vanity. She liked this room, her little corner of heaven. It had royal purple walls and white marble floors that Bailey fixed up just for her.

“What do you need me to do?” Roxy asked again before the man tore up her room. With each passing second, he grew angrier.

“I need you to…” His voice trailed off and he winced. “My ass can’t believe I’ma fuckin’ ask you this. I wanna fuck him up so fuckin’ bad.”

“Just spit it the fuck out. Tell me what the fuck you need from me.”

“Fuck, fine. I need fuckin’ pillow talk. You give him pussy and get his fuckin’ secrets. While you doin’ that, I’ma be hatchin’ a plan.”

Outlaw wanted her to sleep with Knox to get information from him? If the idea didn’t make her so outraged, she’d almost be flattered. Almost. “You’re out your goddamn mind?”

Before he answered, another knock on the door brought Meggie in.

“Hey, you,” she said softly, going to her husband and hugging him. “I broke away as soon as I could.”

Outlaw held her tight and sniffed her hair, as if her scent calmed him. “That motherfucker bitched me out, Megan. I’ma fuckin’ cut his tongue out and shove it up his cock.”

“Shhh,” she whispered, thumbing his lips. “You’re not going to do anything. If I would’ve known he was here, I wouldn’t have brought Rory to Johnnie. I would’ve had Johnnie come to pick him up.”

“I gotta do a fuckin’ sweep of the club,” he said. “Motherfucker probably bugged to fuck. I’ma call a meetin’ of my boys.” He sighed and looked at Roxy. “Forget what the fuck I asked you, babe. I ain’t meant it as a insult. My ass just want…fuck it.”

Meggie’s brow creased. “What did you ask Roxy?”

“To give Knox pussy so she could find out his fuckin’ secrets.”

  “Omigod! Christopher!” Meggie said, outraged.

  “What?”

  “Roxy cannot do that!”

“Yeah, I know. I gotta find a random bitch in the club. My ass gonna have to see which one of those bitches I can trust.”

“You know what?” Roxy said, coming to a quick decision when she saw the downturn of Meggie’s mouth
. The girl would stand by Outlaw chatting up the club rats, but she wouldn’t like it. “I’m not saying I’ll spread my legs for him.” Or even that he’d want her. He had to be no older than twenty-five. She was almost twenty years older than him, divorced three times, a perpetual college student, cancer survivor, dutiful daughter, mother of four children, and surrogate mama to Kendall and the rest of them. She carried a lot of baggage that would be hard for a man her age. Someone Knox’s age would run away and not look back. “I’ll hang around him. Try to get closer and see if he’ll open up to me.”

“You sure, babe?” Outlaw said as Mortician stomped in, followed by Johnnie, who was carrying Rory.

“Prez, what up? What the fuck happen down there?”

Outlaw glowered at Mortician. “Where the fuck Knox at?”

“Gone to the club,” Johnnie answered. “Brooks texted and said he’s there since you don’t want Knox at the club without the attorney.”

“You sure Brooks there?” Outlaw demanded. If he didn’t have to accompany Meggie to her doctor’s appointment, he’d check for himself. The boy hated relying on any other motherfucker except his wife.

“Christopher, what’s the big deal with Knox?” Johnnie asked as Rory laid his head on his father’s shoulder. “He’s checked out. Cut him some slack.”

“He a fuckin’ cop,” Outlaw announced. “Besides givin’ him free fuckin’ rein to snoop around if he alone, I think he fuckin’ wired.”

“No, he can’t be,” Johnnie said, shaking his head. “I’d detect it. We have similar backgrounds and tastes. Perhaps, you’re unfairly judging him.”

Outlaw started for Johnnie as Roxy rolled her eyes and Meggie jumped between her crazy husband and stupid brother-in-law.

“Well, that explain your reaction, non-reaction, to the way he was talking to Meggie, Prez,” Mortician said.

Outlaw growled, but Meggie leaned against him.

“Mortician, shut the fuck up,” Roxy ordered. “Outlaw is going to punch the fuck out of you since he can’t get to Knox.”

“Not fuckin’ yet. When I fuckin’ do…”

Roxy swallowed, the trailing off of that sentence ominous. When Outlaw could get to Knox, he’d look like a jigsaw puzzle, instead of an A-lister. Her nausea deepened.

It was unfortunate if Knox was a police officer. Roxy knew what that meant—he was on the wrong side of the law. Right for almost everybody else, just not for the club.

“How do you know Knox is a cop?” Johnnie snapped, never knowing when to shut the fuck up. “Brooks wouldn’t risk his life by bringing a badge into the club’s midst.”

“I don’t know how the fuck I know, John Boy. I just fuckin’ do. He just too fuckin’ nosy. He every-fuckin-where. When he supposed to be one fuckin’ place, he another. He ask too many fuckin’ questions and I don’t think Brooks knows. Motherfucker as clueless as your fuckin’ ass.”

  “Christopher—” Johnnie began in warning.

“If Christopher says Knox is a cop, then he is,” Meggie inserted.

“I ain’t even able to have Riley look into the motherfucker right now. He still down with pneumonia and we ain’t just trustin’ any-fuckin-body with our shit.”

“What we going to do, Prez?” Real concern clouded Mort’s eyes. “If you right, then this shit bad. The hydrogrows here…Brooks got all types of files.”

“Do what you have to on your end,” Roxy said. Because of Bailey, she was affiliated with the club. If Mortician went to jail, Bailey would be devastated. Same with Meggie for Outlaw. Zoann over Val. And Roxy wouldn’t even consider what Johnnie going to prison would do to Kendall. Out of all the suffering and heartache that would come about from the men receiving long prison terms, Kendall would be the worst. “I’m going to find a way to smoke Knox out on mine.”

Because, if they threatened the club, then they threatened Bailey by extension, and that was never going to happen as long as Roxy lived.

  Chapter Three

Reaching the small office that Brooks Redding used on club premises, Knox knocked, but received no answer. He knew he wouldn’t because Brooks hadn’t arrived yet. Johnnie bought Knox’s pretense of a text. However, Knox had to make it look as if the attorney invited him in, for the cameras he knew were everywhere.

Hopefully, Brooks arrived before Outlaw and Johnnie, so they’d see his car in the parking lot.

Knox crowded himself into the door and used the key he’d made a copy of without anyone’s knowledge. Brooks was so busy attempting to please the motorcycle men, he didn’t notice much of anything else.

Inside the room, Knox flipped on the light. A small desk, two file cabinets, and a book case, aside from Brooks’ chair and the two seats in front of the desk, greeted him. The cramped space didn’t allow many places to hide the camera, so he’d insisted on putting a clock on one of the book shelves. Brooks was so easy going and unsuspecting that he hadn’t even questioned Knox’s determination.

Checking to make sure the small camera was still in place, he made his way to the file cabinet, seizing the opportunity to page through documents.

  “What are you doing?”

At the sound of Kendall Donovan’s husky voice, he started. Clearing his throat, he plastered a smile on his face and set the folder down. He was only halfway through it. Although he hadn’t come across anything incriminating, he knew it was only a matter of time.

“Hi, Kendall,” he greeted, admiring her red hair that framed a stunningly gorgeous face. She rested her hand on the swell of her pregnant stomach, purposely drawing his attention. If she wanted to play the role of damsel, he’d pretend to be her knight. “May I help you?”

“I asked you a question,” she said coolly. “You shouldn’t be in here if Brooks isn’t, so what the fuck are you doing? Why are you going through files?”

Her sharp questions surprised him. After engaging her in a long conversation where she wistfully spoke of her law career and hinting that he could help her once he casually dropped Charlotte’s name into their conversation, he would’ve thought he’d secured Kendall’s loyalty.

“I know the rules, Kendall. I’m only supposed to be in the office when Brooks is in, but he asked me to research the club’s financial history so he could put together a budget,” he said smoothly.

Not responding, she looked around, her gaze touching on each corner, each book shelf, the surface of the desk. Everywhere.

“You’re a liar,” she charged, meeting his gaze with a narrowed one of her own.

Knox kept his smile in place. “Those are harsh words from such a lovely mouth. I can think of much better uses for those lips.”

“Listen, asshole, if you want to continue to work here, you won’t disrespect me or my husband with your meaningless flirtations. You do nothing for me, so I’m not interested in your lame words better used on the sluts who come here to fuck. You want a cock suck? Go to them. You want to continue to work here, tell me what the fuck you’re doing in this office or I’m going to Outlaw.”

Shit, this woman was brutal. Knox knew brutal, though. He’d been married to it. He’d always found a way to smooth things over with Callie. Compared to his ex, he was sure Kendall was a cakewalk.

“Cut me some slack, sweetheart. I talked to Charlotte and she’s talking to Brooks. About your job. But if I’m going to help you, I need you to help me.”

She lifted a brow, her only response.

“Suppose I told you I want to send Outlaw away for a very long time?”

That got her attention. Her eyes flared in surprise. “I beg your pardon?”

“You don’t like him.” Knox threw the words out there, hoping he wasn’t misjudging her. “Furthermore, you don’t like Megan Caldwell.”

“Your point?” she asked, not denying the accusations.

“If he goes away, she goes away.”

She smirked, and Knox saw how much the idea appealed to her by the way her face lit up. “Go on,” she encouraged.

  “You
ll become the president’s old lady. With Outlaw gone, your husband steps into the role.”

“Only until the members vote,” she said thoughtfully. “They may elect someone else.”

“Do you really think that would happen? Johnnie has a lot of support here.”

Even in his limited time here, he saw how well-liked Johnnie was. Unfortunately, Johnnie would also be going away for a long time, something Kendall didn’t need to know.

“That’s true. My husband is much more suited to the job than Outlaw is.” She grinned. “What do you intend?”

“This is between me and you. Promise me.”

“Of course. I wouldn’t dream of telling anyone.”

Knox needed Kendall on his side. Charlotte adored Kendall, however, and she had a lot of knowledge of club legalities. That, coupled with her hatred and jealousy, would serve him well. Then, when he brought her husband down, too, he’d say he never promised her anything.

“I’m waiting. Exactly what are you doing and why?”

Knox smiled. “I already told you. I want to bring Outlaw down.”

  “Any particular reason why?”

A bunch of reasons, all centered around the law firm.

“Does it matter? With him taken out, we both get what we want.”

“When you say taken out, what exactly do you mean?”

  “Again, does it matter?”

She shrugged. “Not in the least. I’m just curious.”

“Let me handle this. Just know that I have it covered.”

“I guess I’ll leave you to it, then,” she said, after a moment of intense scrutiny.

“Do that, sweetheart,” Knox murmured, happy she was so willing to betray the club.

As Kendall turned to leave, Roxy stepped in the doorway. The light makeup she wore made Knox smile. Her tight black jeans hugged her hips. Paired with wedged sneakers and a form-fitting red sweater, she looked like a hot pin-up girl.
