Dark Secrets

“As well I remember. You were the finest thing I’d ever had in my bed. That still holds, my dearest. There has never been another woman like you in or out of my bed. Your body was so perfect, your…”

“That’s enough William. I won’t have my daughter think I am some kind of tramp that would have a one night stand with someone at an office Christmas party.”

“It was more than sex. I found our coupling exquisite. We didn’t stop after just one time, remember, I had quite the stamina back then.”

“You know I don’t recall. I’d rather we didn’t talk about this now in front of our children.”

“Of course, as you wish. We have all night after the children leave for the party to reminise.” I looked back at my mother who I didn’t want to leave. Andre pulled me out of the room before I could even say goodbye to her.

All of a sudden, I could hear Dark and my mother’s conversation in my head.

I need to take a call. Do you mind sitting on the couch for a while. I’ll be back shortly. If you need anything, there will be two guards at the door for your protection.

  I’ll wait.

Dark must have left the room for now I heard my mother’s voice as if she was in the corridor walking with a brooding Andre and me.

Hello my darling daughter, I am so proud of you. Please try to look as natural as you can, if you are still with Andre. I’m not sure how developed your thought transference is right now, so don’t try to reply telepathically to me. I’m on a wavelength that William isn’t familiar with and you might not be able to access yet. There are things I must tell you before William returns.

I met William when he was still William Tremaine, when Hearts, as it was once known, was only a dream in his father’s malicious mind. He was a good man when we first met, a brilliant scientist who was obsessed with the environment of our planet and the balance of nature in the universe.

I worked for his father who ran a huge multi-national conglomerate. I didn’t realize at the time, but he’d already begun setting up Hearts. William had come up with a formula that allowed all of his father’s people to communicate without speech. I should have realized that if they needed to communicate on a regular and confidential basis, they were up to no good. However, I was a young naïve girl that believed in their ideals and protecting the planet.

Your father also worked for Thomas Tremaine in another building. He’d been one of his top scientists. Matthew Steffan, as you’re probably aware by now, is your father’s real name.

When we met, we fell in love almost immediately. Matthew had also been working on a telepathy formula, but his was much more advanced. When he realized how much power his formula would permanently give anyone using it, he decided to destroy it, before it could be used for evil.

I’d come to visit him at his lab the night that he found out about Thomas’s evil plans for his formula. I helped him burn all his notes, but we hadn’t had time to dispose of the formula samples that he’d already prepared, before Thomas came for it.

When we heard the door, we decided to do the only thing we could to keep him from finding any of it, having it analyzed and possibly duplicated. We each drank one of the tubes that he’d formulated as samples. He rushed me out of the secret entrance before Thomas came into the lab. The formula was still in your father’s head, but no one knew that piece of information.

Thomas tried to kill your father, when he realized that he’d destroyed the formula he’d spent years paying him to create. Your father escaped. I was to wait a few days before I left. That way there would be no suspicion about us being together. I had family and your father vowed to keep them safe, by keeping me disassociated from him.

I also realized that with William so infatuated with me, he’d never let your father alone if he knew about us. So to keep your father safe, at least from William’s personal wrath, I stayed behind for a couple of weeks. I planned to slip away during the office Christmas party, while William was occupied.

I’d been in charge of planning most of the big gala, so it would look strange if I wasn’t at the party. I had a couple glasses of champagne, which I’d sipped on for a couple of hours, before putting the nearly full glasses back on the tray. I wanted a clear head that night.

I was getting ready to leave, when William asked me to come to his office with him. I had no idea that his infatuation had become obsession. He’d handed me a glass of champagne. I took a couple of sips of it, never thinking that he would slip me a date rape drug. I knew he was changing and was no longer the idealistic scientist he once was, but I had no idea he was so evil and determined to have me that he would drug me.

By the time we got to his office I was getting dizzy. When I woke, I was naked on William’s couch. There was dried blood on my thighs and I was so sore. I knew, he’d raped me, repeatedly. I hated him, but knew if I told your father the truth, he would have returned to kill him. Your father would have been killed or worse by Thomas’s guards.

I finally did tell your father, but it was after we were far enough away that I knew he wouldn’t leave me to return to seek his revenge. We had no secrets between us. Your father took such good care of me. Then after you were born, he took care of both of us. He’d even changed his name to keep anyone from finding us. He shielded us from Dark Hearts for many years, even when he had to make the ultimate sacrifice and leave us, to protect us.

Matthew was a genius, but he was as good as he was brilliant. He wanted to help the sick. His SXK24 formula had started out as a cure for schizophrenia. It would’ve saved millions of lives and prevented humans from ever experiencing the heartbreak of having a family member completely withdraw from the world, because of their disease. As soon as it was administered, it instantly cured the disease in any person, regardless of their age or the severity of their condition.

Unfortunately, someone discovered that if too much SXK24 was administered to a patient, it turned the subject into a mindless minion unable to think and easily controllable. When Matthew realized this problem, he tried to fix the issue by enhancing the drug with a synthetic enzyme. He’d almost fixed the problem, when William Dark got too close to finding him. He disappeared and so did the drug that could have changed the way the psychiatric world treated schizophrenia.

That is why William Dark didn’t kill your father when he found out about us. He is desperate to add to his dark forces and mindless minions would make the perfect expendable killing machines, but do not worry, Emma. We will get your father as well as you out of this horrible place. Just be patient and do what Andre and William tell you to do. Do not anger either of them, if possible. They are both psychotic killers.

About this telepathic gift of yours, it comes from the formula I ingested that night with your father. It will also allow you to communicate on different wavelengths at will, which is something no other telepathic besides your father and I can do. When you learn to use it, you may be able to develop a code of sorts with your shields, which would give you privacy in your communications.

Try not to worry. We will not allow you to marry Andre. Look around at the party tonight. Don’t look overlong at them, when you recognize a few faces in the crowd. Do not try to communicate with them. Just know they will help you. You are the main priority. You must be removed from William’s reach before…

She suddenly stopped communicating with me. I knew that Dark had entered the room. I wondered what else she’d been going to tell me. I worried for her being alone with him, but I also realized that Mom was no longer that naïve young girl that he’d taken advantage of so many years ago.

  Dark Revelations Chapter Two

Andre, now away from my mother had decided to show his controlling side by squeezing my waist as we danced. He dug his fingers into my side until I whimpered. Then he smiled darkly promising more retribution when we were alone, for my earlier act of disobedience.

No matter what he did, I didn’t care. I knew he wouldn’t rape me until after we were married, because of h
is father’s desire for “proper” grandchildren. Mom was right. They were both psychos and I couldn’t wait to leave this damn place. I didn’t know how they were going to get my parents, Julian, Vincent and me out of this place. At least I had hope now, as I stealthily scanned the crowd for a familiar face.

Another woman had claimed Andre for a dance. He had no problem leaving me. I was being watched enough that I wouldn’t be able to escape this time. I did decide to go to one the corners in the room where I could look around more, hopefully, without being discovered.

Beautiful hand-painted dividing screens had been placed intermittently about the room to give it a more festive atmosphere. I walked to one of the more sophisticated ones, painted with a relaxing garden scene and sat on the chair in front of it.

I no sooner sat down than I heard a voice whisper my name. I couldn’t turn around, but I’d know that gravelly baritone with its slight Italian accent anywhere, “You’re breathtaking tonight, piccola dolce. It is so good to see you. We will get you away from that sadistic bastard, Andre. Don’t worry, cara.”

I held the fan up to my face and pretended to fan myself as I whispered back to Raven, who was behind the screen, “I have missed you so much, too. I love you, Raven. I wish I could see you, but you know it isn’t safe here.”

“I love you, too. It is nice to hear you say it. Don’t worry. I will be fine, because I want to hear you say that again, when I’m looking into your eyes. I’m wearing a costume. I shouldn’t stand out in the crowd. You aren’t safe here. It’s all I can do not to grab that bastard, Andre and strangle him for touching you as he has been doing all evening. Are you sure you’re alright, cara? I know he was hurting you earlier when you were dancing. After tonight, I promise he will never hurt you again.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep. I know you can’t safely get us all out of here with so many Dark Hearts around. I’ll do what I have to do, until you can get us all out safely. You know that Dark has Vincent and Julian in the dungeon.”

“He did have. They are now in the care of the Order.”

  “Won’t they be missed?”

“No, but it looks like you are. Here comes Andre. Cara, we will get you out of here as soon as possible. I promise it won’t be long. I’m going to kill him with my bare hands as soon as you and your parents are safely out of this damn place.”

  “Be safe, amore.”

“Amore, I like it. Later, piccola dolce, I promise I’ll be back soon.”

“Well, did my little fiancé tire of entertaining our guests?”

“I just decided to sit down for a while. My ankle is starting to hurt.”

As if I hadn’t spoken about my ankle, Andre said, “We must mingle. I need to show off my lovely fiancé. It’ll soon be time to make our announcement. I can’t wait to show you off as mine. Let’s go. You’ve hidden long enough.”

He again led me to the dance floor practically dragging me as I feigned a sore ankle. It made no difference to him, we danced several dances before midnight. I wasn’t sure why he wanted to dance with me so much other than the fact that it gave him a nice view of my breasts as they pushed against the low neckline of the gown and it also gave him the opportunity to pull me against his body and grind against me. It reminded me that all too soon I’d be his wife, unless Raven could work a miracle, soon.

I wouldn’t lose hope, not now, even with him almost drooling on me. I knew something he didn’t, my guys and the Order were here. My Julian and Vincent were safe. Soon my family and I would be out of here, too…

Just a little bit about me…I live in the United States with my three dogs in a rambling home with a dark woods located directly behind me. No, it’s not haunted. At least I don’t think so. Then again, one of the eccentrics in my family insists that there’s a tall, dark man who visits the place. As long as he doesn’t pick walnuts off my trees and throw them at the windows or stand in front of the computer screen when I’m working out back, he can stay.

I’m an avid reader with a vivid imagination who dreams of fantasy characters, romance and mystical places. Writing has been one of the greatest joys in my life. It gives me an outlet for some of my more memorable fantasies.

I spend at least three hours a day reading and writing. In addition to my love of the written word, I’m an accomplished vocalist and can be found practicing between books and, of course, dog walks.

I have always believed that you can do whatever you want in life…as long as you believe you can. Thank you for making one of my dreams come true…the dream of becoming an author.

I appreciate all my readers and do answer all legitimate emails. Please feel free to write to me at plmidnight@outlook.com if you have a comment or question about any of my publications. Perhaps, you may have something you’d like to share with me…maybe a fantasy or two.
