Dallas Fire & Rescue_Whine and Rescue Page 11

by Donna Michaels

“For leaving everything you’ve achieved and known the past decade behind up north to come down here to protect me.”

He lifted a hand to brush his knuckles across her cheek. “Nothing is more important to me than you.”

She sucked in a breath and fought the tears burning behind her eyes. And lost.

“Nothing,” he repeated, brushing the wetness with his thumb.

Her heart swelled in her chest as she gazed into his warm expression. “Exactly how I’ve felt about you for over a decade now.”

He gripped her hip with his other hand. “I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to finally be able to reciprocate those feelings.”

“Good. Because make no mistake, Noah Donovan, I love you. Always have, always will.”

His intake of breath cooled the air between them as he cupped her face with both hands now, and kissed her lips in a slow, deep, thorough branding that had her knees knocking and awareness spreading through her body so strong it curled her toes.

When they broke for air amidst a bevy of catcalls and whistles, she smiled up at him. “I’d do anything for you.”

“Yeah?” His gaze grew hotter than the building smoldering behind him. “Care to tell me about it?”

Pain no longer residing in her chest, only happiness and desire, she lifted up on tip-toe to whisper in his ear. “I prefer to show you—on Nona’s desk.”

As Noah muttered a curse and pulled Layla close for another panty-melting kiss her world clicked into place.

  She felt cherished, loved…rescued.
