Charming Selene: The Charming Series Book 1 Page 10

by Dee King

“I resent that,” he says with a smirk on his face.

I place my new board in the water, and paddle out. I feel the water beneath the board. The

waves are really big today. Colin was right. I needed to be in the water.

I stand up to ride the wave. I let the water take me where it wants, as I swerve with the

  wave.

I see Colin riding the waves as I am. His swimming trunks are navy blue with a pin stripe

down the sides. His body is lean. You can see his trident tattoo clearly.

We ride the waves together for what seems like a very short time, till I notice the sun is

starting to go down. I ride to the shore line.

“That was freaking amazing! The best ride I have had in a while. Thanks, Sis.” “It was a good run today. You did a pretty good job.”

“Pretty good? Please. I crushed you on three of those swells.”

“You keep thinking that little sister.” I smile because we both know I am right. We head

  towards the balcony stairs.

“I really needed that. Thanks again.”

“No problem. Let’s find something to eat. I am starved.”

“Yea, I could go for a pizza.”

“ Pizza it is. I will call in the order. Wait, what kind do you like,” he asks as he heads

toward the outdoor kitchen counter and picks up his cell phone.

  “Cheese.”

“That’s all? Cheese. You are certainly a plain goddess,” he says as he dials a number in. A plain goddess? I am not sure I will ever get used to being called that. “The money is on the table. I am taking a shower.”

I look at Colin as he lays the money on the counter. I pick a chair to sit in and watch the

  sun set.

I hear a car pull into the drive. I take the money and head towards the front door. “Alex?”

“Hey. I saw the pizza guy on the road, so I paid for your pizza, and I thought I could bring

  it to you.”

“Thanks.” I take the pizza and we both stand in the door way.

“Are you going to let me in?”

“How did you know I was here?”

“I took a chance.” He says as he brushes his blonde hair out of his brown eyes. “I don’t know. Colin seems to not like you. I am not sure what to do?”

“You know me. You know I would never hurt you. What is between Colin and I is over.

Surely he can let the past go. I have.” Alex tries to put a hand on my arm. I quickly move back

  remembering what Colin said.

“Are you scared of me?” He looks directly into my face.

“No. Gods no. Don’t be ridiculous. You can come in. I live here too now. So it’s my

  house too, right?”

  “Yes it is.”

I hold open the door for him as I hold the hot pizza in my other. Alex follows me outside

to the balcony. I lay the pizza down on the outdoor kitchen counter. I walk around the counter to

see if I can find some plates.

“You look amazing in that swim suit, Selene.” I blush.

  I forgot I’m wearing it.

  “Thanks,” I say quietly.

I finally find some teal blue plates. I place three down in front of him.

  “So, where is Colin?”

  “In the shower.”

“I see.” He smiles as he puts one arm around my waist. I turn and face him. He leans

down and kisses me on the cheek. I stare into his eyes as he pulls back from me, yet not letting go

  of our embrace.

“Every time I see you, I can not help myself. I am sorry. I have waited so long to be able

to be with you that I get lost when I am around you.”

“I feel the same.” I can feel my arms wrapping around his waist as he stares into my eyes. “NO! NO WAY!” I turn to see Colin in fitted jeans, a white shirt, and flip flops. Alex

drops his arm from around my waist. I suddenly feel very aware that I still have my arms around

  him. I drop my arms.

“Colin. Chill. I let him in. We are friends. You are going to have to get over it.” “The hell I do. I told you No, Selene.”

“Hey, man. I have let the past go. Why don’t you?” Alex extends his hand. “No. Put your hand down. Do not touch me or my sister again. I warned you nicely the

last time. Get out. GET THE HELL OUT!”

I can feel Colin’s anger building. I look toward the shore line as the waves start to crash

  harder.

“Okay. Calm down. It’s my fault. Be mad at me.” I step toward Colin. “Get out of my way.”

  I grab Alex’s hand.

“You have to let me make my own choice’s. Remember?” I can see the fury in Colin’s

eyes as I am holding Alex’s hand.

“Just this one night can you please just stop all this.” I look at Colin as I plead. “Fine. You get this one night. That’s it.” Colin walks toward the pizza. “Thank you.” I look at Alex.

“I have to go shower and change. Could you two please be nice to one another?” Alex

looks at Colin then back to me.

“Anything for you.” I hear Colin making a gagging noise as he takes a slice of pizza out of the box. I roll my eyes as I head inside.

Chapter 14 I start the shower and run to my closet. I grab the first thing I see, hoping it fits. It looks like a black dress. Not a cocktail dress, more like a summer dress. I see a pair of black flats where all the shoes are nicely stacked in cubby holes. I go to

pick them up, and a note falls to the ground. Selene. I hope these fit. I had help from Cali on your shoe size. If they do not fit just wear the shoes that are in the box I gave you.

  Sebastian

I look around for the box he gave me tied with the ribbon. I do not see it. He is very odd with these notes. Where is that box, anyways? I do not have time for this. Colin could seriously hurt Alex.

“Are you about done?” It’s Colin yelling at me from the stairs.

“Just a minute.” I hurry to take my shower.

I pull the dress over my body, it fits like a glove. I try the shoes on. Perfect fit. I look in the mirror. I decide a pony tail will be fine. I pinch my cheeks to add a touch of

  color.

“Coming,” I yell as I run down the stairs.

I see Alex standing at the table with the roses. His back is to me. She needs to hurry. I want this night to go as I planned. I heard Alex.

I slowly step behind him, and put my hands over his eyes. He laughs. “I would know those beautiful hands anywhere.” Alex turns around and wraps his arms

  around my waist.

“Look at you. Gorgeous.” I can feel my face getting flushed. I am not use to being called

  gorgeous.

“Thank you Alex.” I can hear foot steps behind me. Alex drops his hands as I turn. “I can not stop you, but I will not watch this. If you two want to hang out, go do it

somewhere else.” Colin opens the door and points outside.

  “Yes your majesty.”

I look at Alex. We walk out the door hand in hand.

I look back at Colin. He is furious.

I turn back around and head towards Alex’s Mercenary Jeep.

He opens the door for me as I try to climb in.

Wearing a dress may not have been the best idea.

I think it was a great idea.

I look at Alex with a grin on his face as he shuts my door.

Selene. Remember what I said. Control him. Don’t let him control you. Colin?

  Yea.

Did you hear that other stuff?

  Yea. Hence, the head’s up.

  Okay. Got it.

I look at Alex as he starts this beast of a vehicle. We fly out of the the driveway. He takes

the corners with ease as his speed increases.

I can feel the wind through my pony tail.

I look at Alex as he shifts
the gears. He places a hand on my knee.

I place my hand on top of his as we drive.

I have no idea where we are going, and in this moment I do not care.

We drive to my favorite spot on the other side of the beach.

As he puts the vehicle in park, I remember our last time here together. He jumps out of the Jeep without even opening the door. He opens my door for me and lends his hand to help me out. I jump down, oblivious to the fact that I am in a dress. My dress

  gets stuck on the door.

  Crap! Crap!

“Here, let me help you.” Alex takes my dress in his hand and helps me get completely out

  the Jeep.

“Thank you.” I say as I shut the door.

“I hope you don’t mind that I brought you here, but I promised you a moonlit walk. I

make good on my promises.” He takes my hand and intertwines our fingers.

I take my shoe’s off and carry them in my free hand. We walk together on the sandy

  beach.

  “Are you singing?”

  “No.” He blushes.

“Oh, it sounded a lot like singing to me.”

“No. I would never do that.” He stops, takes me by the waist, and slowly lifts me up. I lay

my hands on his shoulders. As he slowly lowers me until our lips are touch.

He gently presses his lips against mine. I run my fingers through his hair. He gently

places my feet on the ground. Our lips stay locked I can feel his pulse beating faster. I can feel

my heartbeat racing. We stand there kissing for minutes. I finally stand back.

“I waited a very long time to do that.”

“Me too.” I take his hand into mine as we keep walking. I look out at the ocean. The

beauty of the full moon hitting the water is magical. I stand there locked hand in hand with Alex

as we watch the waves crash onto the shore.

“If you wanted this every day I would give it to you. I would give you the world. The

worlds if you wanted.” I move to see his face.

“I believe you would.” I move closer to him. I lay my head on his chest as he wraps his

strong arms around my body. We stand there watching the waves. I hear a buzzing noise. I look

up at Alex. He takes his phone out to check a message.

I step back to let him read it.

“Sorry to cut this short, but I will have to take you home.”

  “Why? Is everything okay?”

“Yes. Cali says I need to come home right now.”

  “Cali?”

“Yes. We live together in my home.” I step further back.

“It’s not what you think. We have been together since we were kids.” “Been together?”

“No. Not like that. She is to me what Colin is to you.”

  “So, Cali is your sister?”

“No. She is the Goddess of War. Well, she is the daughter of Athena. She will take her

mother’s side when we go home.”

  “You have lost me?”

“Let’s just say that Cali does not have feelings for me. We have a mutual understanding

of our future. Plus, my father assigned her to me, as Sebastian’s dad assigned him Ian.” “Okay. Whatever. So we need to go?”

“Yes. Selene, it’s really not what you think. I promise. We all have homes from our

fathers. Most Migades do not get mansions, but you are special.” He leans down to try and kiss

  me. I back further away.

“Why doesn’t Cali have her own home then?”

“Because my father wanted her to live with me. You do not disobey my father. When

something is asked you do it. That’s how it is.”

  “I see.”

“Your making too much out of this. Colin can explain it to you. I am sorry, but we must

  go.”

“It’s fine. We have school tomorrow anyhow.” I walk as fast as I can to the Jeep

Mercenary. He runs to open my door. I climb in. I have very mixed emotions. We drive back to the mansion in complete silence.

I open the front door to the mansion and I can hear laughter.

All I really want to do is go to bed.

I hear my name. Not calling me, just talking about me. I stand in the entry way listening. “So you think he made his move tonight?”

“Yes he is a fool. Hopefully, Selene sees through all this.”

“She won’t till the last minute, you watch. Even though Cali and Alex live together I am

sure he told her some of the truth. Having him run home to her was a good plan by Cali.” I move a little closer to hear them better.

“You know I never thought she would do so well with all of this.”

  Laughter explodes from the voices.

“She has done well. If we get this accomplished it will be EPIC beyond words.” “Epic is an understatement. This will be out of this world.”

  Laughter again from the voices.

I know one is Colin. I need to get a closer look. I step forward. The voices quiet. “Shhh. Selene is here.”

“I didn’t hear anything. Did you Ian?” That’s Sebastian.

“I am telling you. She is here. Selene. Selene.”

I stand very still as Colin says my name.

“Selene, I know you’re here. I can sense you.” I still do not move.

“Just come in here. It’s your home too.” I decide to walk into the living room. “What?” I see Sebastian and Ian sitting on one of the couches and Colin is sitting in the

other, with his back to me.

  “What did you hear?”

  “Nothing. I just got home.”

“How was the date?” Ian snickers.

“None of your damn business. That’s how it went.”

  “WOW. That good, huh?”

“Whatever. I am going to bed. I have school tomorrow.” I turn around and head towards

the stairs. I hear footsteps running behind me. I stop.

  “What? Leave me alone.”

“Are you alright?” Sebastian is standing right behind me.

  “Yes. Just tired.”

  “Okay. Good night then.”

“Good night.” I make my way to my new bedroom. My bags are on the bed. I lay them on

the ground. I sprawl out on the bed. Sleep is probably the only thing I can control right now. I take off my shoes and throw them on the floor. I stare out the windows as I wrap the blanket around me. I can see the same moon shining on the water as I did with Alex.

  A magical night.

  Ruined by Cali.

Why does he run to her every time she calls. If he does not have feelings for her, then why

  does he care so much?

I close my eyes trying to forget the night.

Chapter 15 I wake to Colin banging on my bedroom door. I am still in my dress.

I try to untangle myself from it and the blanket.

“Selene. School. Time to get up.”

“I heard you. I’m coming.” I open the door to see Colin standing there already dressed.

He has a baseball hat on. He looks like he is in high school.

“I will give you a ride, so hurry up.”

“No thank you. I can drive myself.”

“I know, but I thought it would be nice. Plus, I drive faster and you’re running late. By the

way. Please tell me you are going to change your clothes from last night right?” I slam the door in his face, and head towards the closet.

“Well, someone is not a morning person.” He muffles through the door.

I hear him walk away. I rummage through the closet to find something similar to what I would wear on a Monday. Shorts, tank top, sandals. Done.

I run to the bathroom. I am ready in less than ten minutes. Record time for me. I look for my back pack, and I remember I left it in the back of my Jeep.

  “Bye.”

; “Wait. I said I would drive you.” Colin has his keys in his hand.

“We can not both fit on the bike. Plus, I said no.” He smiles.

  “Not my bike. The car.”

  “You have a car, too?”

“Yes.” I look at him and walk to the front door.

  “Where are your keys?”

“They are in my bag right here.”

“Look again.” I open my bag. My keys are not in there. I am mad. Really mad. “I do not have time for this Colin. Give me my keys.”

“Nope. I guess big brother will just have to drive you,” he says with a big smirk on his face.

I open the door and head outside. I see a very fancy car sitting in the drive way. It’s not like Sebastian’s though. It’s a Porsche Boxster. Black. Convertible. Beautiful.

I walk around the car to get my back pack out of the Jeep.

I open the door on the Porsche. As I sit down, the seat just hugs my body.

It’s a gorgeous piece of machinery.

I run my hand along the interior of the door.

Colin gets in and looks at me with a grin. He starts the car, and we are on the road in less than five seconds.

I stare at the passing palm trees as he drives me to school. He pulls into the closet parking spot he can get.

“Thanks. I will catch a ride home after school.” I tell Colin as I shut the door.

“That’s fine. I have some things to take care of today. So if I am not there when you get home, don’t worry.” He puts the car in reverse and speeds away. I see Chloe staring at me.

“What the hell was that?” She looks angry.

“Long story.” We both walk towards the steps of the school.

“That is a story I am going to need to hear. Who was that hot guy?”

  “My brother.”

“Your what?” Chloe stops in the middle of the stairs.

“He is my half brother on my father’s side. I promise I will explain everything after school.”

  “You got that right!”

Chloe and I walk to our lockers. There is a rose tapped to mine. A Fire and Ice rose.

I take the rose off my locker and place it inside, on top of my books.

“Is that a rose from Sebastian?” Chloe asks as she shuts her locker.

  “I assume so.”

“Girl. What did I miss this weekend?” Chloe looks at me.

“You were there Friday night, and I told you we would talk after school. Plus, some of it

may be easier to show you than to tell you.” We both start walking toward our classes. “Oh, now I am intrigued.” She waves good bye as she walks in to her classroom. Intrigued. Oh no. Some how I have to explain all of this without saying I am a Migades.
