Known as Canada’s Woodstock, the trip—including the stop at Saskatoon to buy out a trackside liquor store—was recorded on film and has since become the subject of a remarkable documentary, due to the fact that some of the hottest music was played on the train itself. Sadly, the performances at Toronto, Winnipeg, and Calgary would be some of Joplin’s last. She died only three months later.
