‘The Dagger is our responsibility. I want it back.’ Gwen gets up.
‘As soon as it’s back on earth, it will draw Lucy’s attention.’ Says Tara. ‘Better leave it where it is for now. Your family is no match for Lucy, we need to work together.’
‘I will not leave it.’ Gwen tries to stare down Tara.
‘Why don’t you come and stay with us?’ Suggest Maeve. ‘That way you’ll be in the loop.’
Gwen looks at the witches. Tara is right. Her family is small and with Alana gone…. She takes a deep breath and nods. This makes the women relax. They might have lost the spell book. For now, Lucy is gone, and they have secured the Dagger. It might not have gone according to their plan, but they got the job done.
The women raise their teas and toast. ‘Let’s keep it safe.’
Cling. It’s like a bell resonates in history, they all feel the weight of that promise. As they echo a promise made many years ago by their family.
FAIRY
Lucy takes a minute to orientate herself. This whole affair has taken its toll on her usually impeccable appearance and her energy. Her age weighs heavy on her. Not the smartest move to drop herself in a random spot in Fairy. She can’t feel the Dagger. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything. It would have been too easy. That damn sister of her. Never in a million years had she expect this sort of calculative thinking of Tara. Maybe she did learn something also in all those years apart. Someone behind her clears her throat. Lucy spins around and faces a vaguely familiar face.
‘Hello, Auntie.’

Astral Plane; A parallel dimension that witches can visit. It has similarities with earth but is inhabit by dangerous creatures. Only your spirit travels there, but any injuries you receive while there are reflected on your body on earth.
Book of Shadows; a witch’s book full of spells and occult wisdom, passed down in the family. Constantly updated with new knowledge, it also chronicles the family’s history.
Cup of Plenty; one of the four elemental power objects denoting the element of Water.
Dagger of Consciousness; one of the four elemental power objects denoting the element of Air.
Elements; Air, Fire, Water and Earth.
Fairy; a magical world where fairies and other creatures live. You can enter the Fairy world through portals.
Fates; Maiden, Mother and Crone, three mythological goddesses who decide the destinies of humans.
Magical Tarot Deck; a tarot deck of 22 major arcana cards that depict the three generations of the Madigan Family, grandparents, children, spouses, and grandchildren. When used the images on the cards come to life and the person comes out of the card. That person will disappear from their current life until the querent’s question is answered.
Pentacle of Growth; one of the four elemental power objects denoting the element of Earth.
Portal; a doorway into another world.
Querent; term for a person asking a question during a tarot reading.
Ti’tsa-pa; native American name for the Great Salt Lake means ‘Bad Water’.
Tsé Bit’a í; Navajo territory in New Mexico, the American name is ‘Winged Rock’
