I jabbed an elbow in her side.
“It’s the truth,” she hissed at me.
“Well, that’s the other good news. Now that everyone knows the danger has passed, I’ve had several girls come forward who want to try out for the team.”
We all looked around at each other, surprised.
“That’s terrific news!” I sat up a little straighter.
Coach Davis put her fingers in her mouth, letting out a whistle. A group of nearly ten girls raced across the floor. A few of them decided to tumble along the way, showing gymnastics skills that matched Lauren.
“Holy smokes,” Amanda said. We all looked on in surprise.
“Meet our new freshman hopefuls,” Coach said, smiling.
A nervous fluttering filled my stomach. “Does this mean we have to try out again?”
“Nope. You girls showed up on day one, so your spots are reserved. But how do you feel about helping me choose your newest teammates?”
“Yes!” we all squealed in unison.
Epilogue
The Sociopath
Jail is so boring!
I guess they finally got me. I lost at my own stupid game. And who would have thought Ashleigh Westerfield would have gotten the best of me in the end?
I almost wish she would have killed me along with Jordan, because this place is truly the pits.
Apparently, she’d overheard Sydney talking about a party, and being the pathetic freak she always is, she couldn’t help herself. When she showed up at the door, she saw Jordan through the double glass door with the gun. She snuck in when he went to the bedroom, grabbed a kitchen knife, and stabbed him repeatedly in the back.
She waited for me to come up the stairs, clutching my grandpa’s gun. Either she’s a horrible shot, or she wanted me to live—I think she wanted me to suffer. Plus, she’s probably paying me back for all those times I messed with her mind.
I should have just let her rot in juvie—nobody would have known the difference, but I just couldn’t resist torturing the cheerleaders, specifically Dakota.
Who’s probably lying in Andy’s arms as we speak, I thought, clenching my teeth.
I wrote him a letter the other day. He still hasn’t written me back yet, but I’m certain he will soon. I could see it in his eyes before he bit me—he really still does have feelings for me, although I’m sure he’s pissed I tried to kill him.
Like I said, jail is boring. But the good news is I won’t have to suffer long.
According to my lawyer…because I’m a minor and because all they have on me is attempted murder charges, I won’t have to do much time. He assured me that my charges will get knocked down to Criminal Confinement and Assault, which isn’t so bad, considering…
Lucky for me, Mariella did most of the murders for me sophomore year. They can’t prove I killed Genevieve or Detective Hudson, or that I set the bomb. As of now, their case against me is pretty pathetic…all circumstantial.
A troubled girl who lost her parents at an early age. She was obsessed over a boy and played a prank that turned out tragically because of Ashleigh…
“I wasn’t really going to hurt them,” I’d told police. “I was jealous over Andy, and I wanted to scare them. But then Ashleigh came in and thought I was serious, so she murdered my brother and tried to kill me.” It was quite a good story, I must admit.
Ashleigh wasn’t detained; officers had agreed she acted in self-defense. She should be in here, not me.
But there’s no reason to worry. They haven’t outsmarted me yet. Well, except stupid Ashleigh Westerfield. I heard she’s going to Bellmont this year, so I’ve been writing letters…lots of them. I think with enough convincing and her gullibility, I can get her on my side…
My lawyer said I might get out within a year or two. My foster parents are standing by me, and they promised that when I get out, they’ll move me to a brand new school.
I just really hope they have a cheerleading team.
Fight fight!
Dragons attack!
They can lock me up
But I’ll be back
I might be out
But I’m not down
You’ll see me again
Perhaps in your town…
Love,

About The Author
Besides my family, my greatest love in life is books. Reading them, writing them, smelling them…well, I think you get the idea. Some of my greatest childhood memories are me in my room, tucked away reading a good book. Every week I received a five dollar allowance, and I always used it to buy books.
I have always loved to read, and never actually considered myself a writer until a few years ago when I couldn’t find a book to read and decided to try writing my own. What started out as a fun project ended up with me falling in love with writing.
I’m the author of the Flocksdale Files trilogy, Grayson’s Ridge, This Is Not About Love, and the first two books in the Horror High series—Cheerleading Can Be Murder and Cutting Up the Competition. I live in Floyds Knobs, Indiana with my husband, three children, and a massive collection of books.
