He rushed to the bedside. He put his arms around Jennie, hugged her and kissed her. “Mrs. Calder said you’re doing well. We have a baby girl. Just as I said, I told you we were going to have a girl. If I’m really lucky, she is going to look just like you.”
“Thank you, Honey. It’s my dream come true.”
Mrs. Calder brought his daughter, wrapped in a pink blanket, and held her for him to see. She had a mop of black hair. She was red faced. Her eyes were open. Cal would later swear she was looking at him.
Mrs. Calder said, “Mrs. Pierce, here’s your daughter. You won’t have milk yet, but let her nurse.
“Jennie held the tiny hand, and said, “Isn’t she beautiful, Cal? I didn’t disappoint you.”
“You could never disappoint me. As long as you’re healthy and our baby is healthy, I’m happy.”
“Mr. Pierce, your wife is tired. She worked hard. Let her have a nap now. I need one myself,” she said.
Chris, who had been waiting in the kitchen during most of the evening, broke into a big smile, when Cal told him he had a baby sister. “Your mama is doing fine, too.
Jennie had a normal recovery from her ordeal with the childbirth. Her anxious husband would still not allow her to do anything more strenuous than holding her daughter, until Doctor Murphy pronounced her to be in perfect health.
Jennie and Cal had decided to name their daughter Rebecca Ann.
The bassinet and crib Cal had ordered previously had arrived and Cal had set it up in the bedroom.
Becky was lying on his legs, her tiny fingers wrapped around his finger. Cal looked at Jennie, and said “We are well and truly blessed. We have it all, don’t we?”
“Yes we do.”
Epilogue
Cal and his beloved Jennie both lived a long and happy life, lasting well into their eighties. Cal was active in running the Circle CP with the able assistance of Clay Terwilliger, until he turned eighty.
Jennie and Cal traveled extensively, in the United States and throughout Europe. Jennie purchased many fine art pieces and turned their ranch house into a show place.
Jennie was a founding member of the Cheyenne Ladies Social group and served three terms as president.
Chris graduated from Cheyenne High School and obtained his college degree from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. On his forays up and down Crow Creek, Chris found enough gold dust to pay for a trip back to Yorkville, where he married Amy Lou Carter. They built a house on a portion of the Circle CP ranch, near where Chris made his discovery of gold.
When Cal first held his daughter, Becky, she had curled her tiny fingers around his finger. This proved to be prophetic, because according to Jennie, Becky had her father wrapped around her finger for the rest of his life. She was a miniature of her mother, a stunning beauty. She was also a daddy’s girl. From the time she was old enough to walk, she toddled after Cal, calling him “Papa.” If Cal was on a horse, Becky was there also, and for her sixth birthday, she was given a calico pony. Jennie had been heard to say Becky was her only rival for Cal’s affection. Becky received her BA degree from the University of Wyoming, in Laramie. She married the son of a prominent Laramie ranch owner and bore two sons and a daughter.

Gentle Readers
I monitor all of the reviews and comments, left on Amazon or sent directly to me by email. I particularly treasure the emails from you. I revise my writing process and style accordingly. Writing is still a learning process for me and I love every minute of it.”
I appreciate your taking the time to read my books. As an avid reader myself, I will read several books during the time I am writing this one. Our kids love to read, in fact one year we gave our ten year old son his own subscription to Readers Digest because he kept taking ours.
For those of you who email me about the plots and the style, I thank you. For someone to have the interest and take the time to email… well it makes my day, and you have a special place in my heart.
I had an email from a gentleman who lives in the area I used as the setting for ‘In Search Of Love’. Since I research the geographical setting of all my books, the names of the trails, creeks and towns were familiar to him.”
Another reader emailed a picture of her great-great grandfather after she read ‘The Widow Finds Love’ which is based in part on my great-great-great grandmother and her 1888 trek from South Carolina to Utah.”
