For all you Taco lovers out there. Tony is someone that I absolutely love because no matter how many times he gets kicked, he always picks himself up and moves on. He’s strong and deals with more shit in the workplace than most people do. So, here’s to you Tony Tacos, I hope you enjoy your new nickname!

CHAPTER ONE
Sean
I parked a block away from the house and quickly got out, shutting the door quietly. Two other cruisers parked on the other side of the street and I nodded at the four men that got out. Moving quickly down the sidewalk, staying as close to the bushes as possible, we moved for the house that sat to the left of Becky and Delaney’s, where Benjamin Rogers lived. I had staked out his house for the past two hours, waiting for him to return home. Five minutes ago, he drove through the subdivision and pulled into his house. I called in backup that was parked a few blocks over so that we didn’t draw attention to the fact that we were here. The last thing we needed was to take this asshole down in a public place. There was no telling how he would respond to being arrested. And it worked. Benjamin got out of his car and walked inside like he didn’t have a care in the world.
Stopping at the edge of his drive and motioning for the other officers to stop, I pulled out the arrest warrant and held it tight in my grip as I signaled for us to move. I was really hoping that this would all play out the easy way. If he fought us, someone could get hurt. I walked up to the front door and calmly knocked. When the door swung open, Benjamin stood in front of me, eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“Detective, is there something I can help you with?”
I had met Rogers several times before today when I had questioned him about suspicious activity in the neighborhood and then over the murder that occurred right next door to him. He was slick, never having given off any signs that he could be the murderer. And I had a feeling he was going to play that off again today.
“Benjamin Rogers, I have a warrant for your arrest in the murder of Delaney Fischer.” I turned him around and grabbed his wrist, cuffing one and then the other. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.” He started talking above me, but I had to finish reading him his rights or the case could take a serious hit.
“Please, I didn’t do this! I would never hurt someone else. I wasn’t even home that night!”
“You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you?”
“Detective, you have to believe me, I didn’t do this. I’m being framed,” he said, jerking in his handcuffs, and putting out the impression that he was truly distraught.
“Mr. Rogers, do you understand these rights as I have read them to you?”
He didn
t say anything, just stared at me with confused eyes.
“Mr. Rogers, do you understand the rights I have just read to you?”
He nodded, but he looked truly fucked up, like he had no clue what was happening, and that put a sour feeling in my gut. Either this guy wasn’t the guy that murdered Delaney, or he was a really fucking good liar. The psychologist back at the station would be able to tell us more. We specifically brought her in because we were pretty sure this guy was a psychopath. If he was, this was a whole other ball of wax that we had to deal with, and the prosecution would have an even harder time pinning this on him. Psychopaths tended to be charmers and knew all the right things to say, which was what led to the churning feeling in my gut. We couldn’t let this guy walk away. But after we collected all the evidence and turned it over to the prosecution, it was out of our hands. I just prayed for my friends and for Becky that this guy didn’t slip through the cracks.
CHAPTER TWO
Tony
Two months later…
Saturday
I walked out of the training center and over to the locker room to take a shower. I rolled my eyes when I saw Burg running over to me. I knew I was in for another one of his speeches.
I know where you are, man. I’ve been there. I know Emma lived, but I know what it’s like to be helpless and not be able to help the woman you love.
The woman I love. That was the one major problem with this whole thing. I didn’t love Delaney and she and I both knew it. That wasn’t the way it was between us. She was having fun and so was I. The first time we slept together was great, but when we went out, we just didn’t have enough in common. After our third awkward date, she finally told me that the sex was great, but there was nothing else there, and that was okay. After that, we agreed to just fuck and hang out until one of us wanted to end it. It took the pressure off and made hanging out easier. I wouldn’t go so far as to say we were friends, but we got along okay. And since we both knew how we felt, I didn’t have to worry about breaking her heart when it was over. Except, she died before I could end it, and I was the only one left knowing what really happened between us.
Everyone else was the problem. They wanted me to talk shit out and work through what happened. Hell, it was traumatic for sure to walk in on a person I came to care about murdered on the floor. I should have been there that night. I was supposed to be there. If I hadn’t gone back to work, Delaney wouldn’t be dead. I would have gone inside with her, and if that asshole was there, I would have fucking killed him. But I wasn’t there and now she was dead.
I had seen her parents at the funeral and her mom actually hugged me, telling me that she didn’t blame me. She told me that Delaney spoke very highly of me and she wondered if we could get together sometime to talk about her. Delaney’s father told me that he knew that was asking too much and pulled her away before I had to answer.
I had been there when she told her mother about me. Her mom was always calling and asking her if she found anyone, so one night, Delaney grinned and told her mom all about me while I sat there teasing her body with my tongue. It appeased her mom and in return, I got blowjobs for a week.
“Hey, man. You want to grab a beer?” Burg asked, knocking me out of my thoughts.
“No.”
I slammed the locker and headed for the shower.
“I think you should talk about this.”
“And I think you should mind your own fucking business,” I snapped.
“Look, I get it. I know what it’s like to-”
I spun around and got in his face, tired of all the bullshit answers he was throwing my way. “Do you? Do you know what it’s like to see the woman you’re fucking lying on the ground, already dead because you went back to work instead of walking in and making sure her house was safe?”
He stared at me, his eyes kind and full of understanding instead of angry. And that pissed me off.
“Just back the fuck off. If I wanted your help, I’d fucking ask for it.”
I went to shower and didn’t bother to pay attention to the stares that followed me around the locker room. Everyone was walking on fucking egg shells around me. The fact was, I was changed by what had happened. I wasn’t the same man I was before Delaney was murdered and they all knew it. They wanted the old Tony back, but I wasn’t sure if he ever would be. A few of them tried ribbing me with the whole Tony Tacos thing, but I just ignored them all. None of it was fucking funny and it didn’t get a rise out of me. I just wanted to be left alone for five fucking minutes.
My phone rang and I looked down at the screen. Delaney’s parents… I sent the call to voicemail and took a deep breath. I wasn’t sure how much longer I could take this shit. Still, I forced myself to listen to the voicemail. I needed to hear the pain in her mother’s voice. It was what reminded me that I had to be more vigilant.
Tony, hi, it’s Delaney’s mom, Alisha. Um…I was hoping to catch you and talk with you about Delaney.
I heard her sniffle and took a deep breath, holding back the anger that I didn’t deserve to have. She was the one suffering. I was just dealing with the fallout.
I just miss her so much. But knowing that you were there for her and loved her means everything to me. I’m so happy to know that my baby had someone. I’ll talk to you soon.
Fuck. I dropped my head and briefly considered tossing my phone into a wall, but that would only get me a phone bill for a new phone. Shoving it in my pocket, I pushed through the locker room doors and headed for my suite. But I didn’t want to be home any longer. I went out that night, choosing to drink alone instead of sitting around the fucking table with Raegan’s parents, Coop, Becky, and Kayla. Storm and Jessica had been absent a lot lately and I didn’t care why. But sitting with Becky, while she was there recovering was too fucking much. I couldn’t stand to look at her face. I didn’t blame her, but every time I saw her, I was reminded of my failures.
I flung the door to The Pub open and took a seat at the bar. After ordering a beer, I glanced around the room, looking for anyone I could take home and fuck for the night. I wasn’t looking for something great. I just needed someone to take the edge off with.
Off in the corner of the bar was a group of three women. Two of them were not at all my type. They were too flashy for my tastes, but the other woman, she was a knockout. She had dirty blonde hair that was long and straight, and her face was heart-shaped. Her smile was sweet and innocent, but it was always the quiet, sweet ones that were wild in the bedroom. Picking up my beer, I made my way over to her table and attempted a smile. I was pretty sure that based on the confused look on her face, it didn’t come off that way.
“I’m Tony,” I said, holding out my hand to her.
“Molly.”
I grinned, because Molly suited her just right. Like I said, innocent and sweet. “Do you mind if I sit?”
She glanced at her friends, but nodded. “Sure.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Tony, come inside.”
I groaned as she ran her hand up and down my cock. Damn, I wanted her. My phone pinged and Delaney shoved off me, knowing that if my phone was going off, it was about work. Nobody else ever fucking called me. It was Cap. Shit. I texted him back and said that I would get his paperwork in the morning. I needed Delaney too damn bad right now. What guy would walk away when he was just seconds from getting what he needed?
“Let’s go inside.”
“Are you sure? You could come back over later.”
“Fuck that. He can fucking wait for his damn paperwork.”
I got out of the truck and hauled Delaney out of her side, throwing her over my shoulder as she squealed and laughed.
“Tony, all the neighbors are watching!”
“Yeah, should we give them a show?”
She laughed and started yanking my pants down. But Delaney was like that, not really giving a shit if anyone caught us. She was definitely different than all the other women I had known. It was too bad there was nothing mor
e between us. Damn, I really wanted there to be, but you just couldn’t make two people spark.
I snatched the keys out of her hand and unlocked the door. I set her down and engaged the security system when I felt her hands wrap around me.
“Let’s go to the bedroom,” she whispered in my ear, biting it lightly.
She took off down the hall, racing to get away from me. I was grinning when I threw open the door and found her sprawled out on the bed for me. Prowling toward her, I watched her eyes dilate and grinned. I loved seeing her get so excited for me. It was intoxicating.
I was on the bed in seconds, tearing at her clothes and ripping them to shreds. I wasn’t gentle with Delaney, but we didn’t exactly get rough either. It was just good, hard fucking. I heard her gasp and her hold on me tightened, but it wasn’t out of need or want. It was out of fear. I could feel her heart beating wildly beneath my hands.
“What is it?”
She stared over my shoulder, her eyes twitching and her brows furrowed in worry. I spun around just in time to block a knife to the back. Delaney screamed and leapt off the bed.
“Get the fuck out here!” I shouted. She sprinted around us, just as the man took another swing with his knife. I was slightly off kilter, not having expected an attack at my girlfriend’s house. I gripped onto his wrist and held the knife away from me. I slammed my boot into his leg, sending him to the ground. He still held the knife, but now he was the prey, and I was gonna make this fucker pay for what he was about to do.
