Right. He had to stop being so despondent.
She pushed through the doors of the residence and a few seconds later they arrived in his rooms. He hadn’t seen them in almost a year. They smelled like Carrie now. He warmed at the thought she’d slept there, in his room surrounded by his stuff.
“We put it back.”
He blinked. “I’m sorry. I didn’t follow that. We put what back?”
“My soul. I know how it got there the first time. We just need to put it back.”
Carrie pulled the shirt over her head and off her body. It landed with a soft thud on the floor.
He sucked in his breath. “Are you suggesting what I think you are?”
“Gabriel Kane, make love to me like you mean it.”
She took two steps and launched herself into his arms. He caught her in a tight embrace. “Carrie, I don’t know if this will work but I’m glad to try.”
“More than glad.” He spoke to her telepathically. Using that gift had been too painful. Telepathic talk with a woman who had once been his mate pained him like a dagger going off in his head. Using it with his love that could still be mated to him made his heart soar.
“Good.” She kissed his nose.
Their mouths touched, drawn together with a need he’d forgotten but now knew he’d never be able to live without again. She tasted like life itself and he opened his mouth to welcome her tongue inside.
Carrie moaned and squeezed him tighter with her legs. Her bare breasts pushed against his shirt and he could feel her hard nipples through the material.
Fuck standing up. It didn’t give him the kind of maneuvering he needed nor did he trust himself after all that time to not have his knees buckle. He whirled them both around until they reached the bedroom.
In two strides he had her laid down on the bed beneath him. She was naked from the waist up and his wolf senses let him know that her panties were wet from wanting him. He grinned, knowing she had to be able to tell from where his excitement stemmed. Not that she didn’t also have access to his level of sexual interest. In her case, she could just look down to see his cock pointing at her through his pants.
“I like your grin.” She rubbed the side of his face. “You look like yourself right now.”
“That’s good.” He didn’t want to focus too hard on how he must have appeared earlier.
“Let me feel your skin too.”
He nodded. No one would understand better than he did what it would mean for Carrie to feel his flesh beneath her fingertips. It had been too long. He tore the material from his body. She had patience for things like removing clothing. He did not.
She reached out and caressed his chest, tracing the muscles of his abdomen with her fingertip. He shuddered and his cock got even harder. Another second and he’d lose control completely.
He bent over and took her nipple in his mouth. She moaned and squirmed beneath him. Carrie had always liked having her breasts touched, played with, sucked.
“This feels so wonderful.” She had a growl in her throat. “It’s like the first time only I know you so well. I know your body. I remember how to make you scream.”
“You do, huh?” His woman. She had to still be his. No one else in the universe could be allowed to see her like this. Ever.
Carrie pushed him over until she lay on top of him. “My turn.”
“As you wish.”
She licked her lips. “After all, this is all about getting my soul back in your body.”
“Well.” He pinched her belly button and she squealed. “Maybe not one hundred percent about that.”
His cock jerked and she reached out to hold the tip of it. He made a noise he didn’t remember ever making before and prayed to the gods he didn’t spill his cum right into his pants.
She stood up, keeping her legs positioned on either side of his. Shaking her hips, she shook her oversized pants right off and onto the ground. From his vantage point he could see her pussy, wet and ready for him, perfectly.
“That’s quite a view you’re giving me. I might have to make you stay up there permanently.”
She gave him a half-smile, part of her grin going into a sideways twist. “That would be rather inconvenient.”
“Maybe for you. Not for me.” He reached up, stroking one finger through her sweet cream.
She pointed downward at his pants. “Take them off. Now.”
“As my lady wishes.” Like his shirt, he ripped his clothes off his body. His cock strained now, not constrained by his pants, to be deep inside Carrie. She knelt and, before he realized her intent, had taken his cock all the way into her mouth and down her throat.
He jerked, his hips moving of their own volition. “No, Carrie. Don’t do that. I won’t make it. I love it but I won’t be able to control myself.”
Even now he could feel the start of precum forming on the tip of his cock. She pulled back, an eyebrow raised. “But I’ve been wanting to do it for forty years.”
“Later. I’ll beg you for it. Not now. Please.” He could hear the desperation in his voice and he had no intention of denying what he felt. He would plead with her for anything she wanted if only she’d let him put himself into her pussy.
“I wouldn’t want you to suffer, my love.”
He rolled her over. “That’s good. You’re a lovely, darling woman.”
Positioning himself, he placed one finger up her core to confirm what he already knew. Carrie was wet.
“I love you.” He hoped to the gods this worked. Having had her in his soul, he craved her presence with him at all time. This couldn’t be their last time together.
“I love you too, my mate.”
He nodded. How did she always know what he needed to hear? As he pushed himself balls-deep, he could feel her muscles clenching around his cock, welcoming him home.
She hissed in her breath. “More. Give me more, Gabriel.”
In and out he moved within her, forcing himself to hold back. Faster and then slower, he knew he’d hit the right spot when she moaned. He wanted to hit that spot over and over.
Finally, when the pressure became too overwhelming, he lost himself in the moment and gave in to taking her as he needed to, with abandon. She cried out beneath him, shuddering as she came. Her muscles squeezed his cock, milking him. He took a deep breath and lost control.
The world went white.
“Gabe.” Carrie stroked his eyebrows. “Open your eyes. You need to see something.”
He groaned. Had he actually blacked out? At some point they must have changed places because now she lay on top of him.
She kissed him on the lips and he smiled. “Are you okay?” he asked.
“I’m fantastic.” She pointed at the sky. “Notice anything happening?”
He stared upward and laughed. Leave it to Carrie to be absolutely correct. All of her colors that had left his life were coming back inside him. Oranges, reds, pinks, and purples.
Carrie stroked her finger down his face. “Are these good tears?”
“Am I crying?” Damn. What did it mean that he hadn’t even noticed? “Thank you for coming back to me.”
“Forever, you crazy man.”
“I think I promised to do something earlier.” He smiled. “Like begging you to do something to me.”
“Oh, that.” She sighed before she grinned. “I’d love to.”

The pack had gathered for food, something they had done all the time when Carrie had been a child but not, she’d been told, in a long time. All of them getting together for meals had seemed too large of a target.
Kendrick’s made wolves pranced through the group howling and yipping in happiness. She smiled at one, patting him on the head. It made her heart ache to think they wouldn’t have long to live. None of Kendrick’s wolves ever did. But maybe there could be hope. Az had always been a genius and he’d promised to work on nothing else until he could find a way to keep them alive and healthy.
“Feeling
good?” Gabriel put his arm around her as he led her away from the group.
In the distance, Ashlee laughed at something Summer said. Children squealed.
“I am. I think. It’s hard to believe it’s over, you know.”
“Carrie.” Gabriel led her to a spot under a tree that was slightly removed from where everyone else played. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” She stroked the side of his face like she had always loved to do. “The pack I had is gone. I wonder if you still feel that. You were here when this one formed.”
“I miss those we lost, every day. How could I not?” He shook his head before pressing a kiss to her shoulder. “But this one is a good one. It was forged from fire, made of steel. All it needed was you.”
“I already love everybody. I can feel them in my mind and it’s like having peace when all had been chaos for so long.”
He touched her cheeks. “I actually know exactly what you mean.”
“Thank you for holding on, Gabe.”
“I didn’t, Carrie. I fell apart.” She could tell from his voice that it shamed him.
Tell him. Her wolf commanded.
“No one could have held on as long as you did, my love. You’re Super Wolf.”
“Well, I’d be gone now if you hadn’t saved me. Risked your life. Come here. Faced a pack who had no memory of you. You’re made of steel, my Alpha Wolf. You are the strength in this relationship.”
She grinned. Gabe said the most wonderful things. “I think we were evenly mated.”
He shook his head. “I told you when I came to you for the mating that you were a tough lady. I meant it. You frighten me to death.”
She elbowed him in the chest. It had taken forty years, but they were together as they always should have been. Carrie wouldn’t let Gabriel go ever again.

Gabriel stepped out into the night. It surprised him that Tristan had given him as much time as he had. When the telepathic instructions had come from his Alpha to come out to the clearing he’d obeyed immediately, managing to not awaken Carrie in the process.
He blinked as he saw his brothers. All of them. With Cullen and Angel with them.
“Are you all going to throw me off the cliff?”
Theo laughed. “We thought we might save that for the future.”
“You missed my speech.” Tristan scowled at him. “It was a good talk. I’d thought about saying it for years.”
“Would you like to give it again?” Gabriel walked closer to them.
Angel grinned. “Please don’t do that. Once was more than enough. I can only get hoorayed over things once a day.”
“I’ve been trying to think about what to do with you, brother.” Tristan stepped closer. “And I think I’ve come up with a sufficient punishment for you.”
Gabriel nodded. “Whatever you wish, my Alpha.”
“Whatever I wish?” Tristan put his hands out like he stretched. “Did you hear that Cullen? Whatever I want?”
“I heard him.” Cullen never smiled but this time he grinned. “Make him live up to that.”
“You see.” Tristan laughed. “Oh hell, Michael, you tell him.”
“You have to stay here. Forever. With all of us. You have to resume your duties. You have to make babies with your mate. You have to stay Uncle Gabriel to our kids. You don’t ever get to leave us.” Michael shrugged.
“Except, you know, if you want a vacation,” Az added.
“Or if we send you to the mainland to get something,” Rex finished.
“I don’t understand. That’s not a punishment.”
His wolf’s ears perked up. He didn’t get it either.
Tristan raised his hand. “I don’t want to argue with you. You said you’d take your punishment as I dished it out. And this is what I decided. Living without a wolf, living without your mate. Keeping all of us alive. How else would I punish you? Except perhaps to remind you that I’m always here and if things go astray in your life, family is always there for you.”
“I know that. I just didn’t know what to do. I had to keep Carrie alive. I had to keep all of you safe.”
“Gabriel.” Tristan hugged him. “I forgive you. We all do. Your punishment is you get to come home and stay here with us. For as long as you want.”
“Thank you, brother.”
Tristan nodded. “Now sit down with us. We’re all here to watch the sun rise and since that’s hours away we might as well take a load off.”
“As you wish.” He sat down. What was the feeling inside of him? He couldn’t quite make it out.
Happiness, you dolt. His wolf scoffed.
Thanks. He smiled.
“You know, eventually”—Theo laughed—“our mates are going to come looking for us.”
“Yes, and?” Tristan leaned back against a large rock.
“And are we just going to let them find us or should we lead them on a chase?”
“I think the boy wants to run.” Gabriel stood up. “You know we always give our younger brothers what they want.”
“I couldn’t have said it better.” Tristan rose. A white light surrounded his body as he shifted into his wolf form.
“None of you can catch me. I’m Alpha after all.”
Gabriel laughed, letting his shift come over him. They’d see about that.
