“Can I help with anything?” Quinn asked.

“Nope. Everything is taken care of.”

Arlene and Quinn sat down at the table. “I heard you both had a good time at the beach.”

Quinn nodded. “We did,” she answered, but leaned toward Arlene. “Has Wendy said anything to you?”

  “About what, Quinn?”

Quinn shrugged. “I don’t know. Wendy’s been kind of different since that day.”

Wendy chose that moment to come into the dining room. She placed two bowls on the table and left.

“Wendy hasn’t said anything to me, Quinn.”

Wendy came back with the rest of the food and took a seat.

Arlene and Quinn chatted about the softball team and the goings on at the hardware store, but again Wendy remained relatively quiet.

As the plates were removed from the table, Quinn commented,” Dinner was delicious, Wendy.”

“Thank you,” Wendy said, before she left the dining room again.

“See,” Quinn said, looking at Arlene.

“I’ll talk to her, Quinn.” Arlene touched Quinn’s hand. “I’m sure you did nothing wrong. Don’t worry.”

After Quinn left, Arlene asked Wendy to sit down so they could talk.

  “What’s up, Mom?”

  “What’s wrong, Wendy?” Arlene asked.

“There is nothing wrong, Mom.” Wendy wondered how her mother did that. She always knew when something was bothering her since she was a child.

“You’ve been so quiet. Even Quinn noticed it.”

“What did she say to you?” Wendy asked nervously, but then realized Quinn didn’t know anything.

“She thinks she did something wrong and that’s why you barely talk to her.”

“Mom, she didn’t do anything wrong. It’s me.”

“What do you mean?” Arlene asked. “Wendy, you can tell me anything and I won’t judge you.”

Wendy sighed. “I’ve just been thinking about my past and how it’s starting to catch up with me now.”

Arlene waited for Wendy to continue without interrupting.

Wendy swallowed hard before she started her story. “When I was in my senior year at college I met this girl named Kelly. She kept asking me out and I kept refusing. Two weeks before school ended, I agreed to go out with her. At the end of the term, she went back to New York and I stayed in California.”

“Were you intimate with Kelly?” Arlene asked softly.

Wendy nodded not meeting her mother’s gaze. “I never thought of myself as gay when I was sleeping with Kelly.”

“But things have changed recently?” Arlene asked as Wendy nodded. “Quinn?”

  “Yes.”

“Does Quinn know you have feelings for her?”

“No. I was going to tell her when we went to the beach, but I changed my mind.” Wendy looked at her mother. The tears formed in her eyes. “I’ve decided not to tell her.”

  “Why not?”

“Mom, I have a career to think about. That’s the reason after Kelly, I never let myself get close to a woman. I started getting small parts in movies and TV shows and then I met Jeff Harris at a party. Jeff’s career was doing so much better than mine and we just hit it off. He became an action hero and ended up in the year’s blockbuster.” Wendy sighed. “After we were married, I came home from the set early one day and found him in bed with his best friend. I can’t say I was shocked. I think I may have suspected all along. We didn’t have much of a sex life, but we both seemed happy with that.” Again Wendy sighed. “We stayed together for another year. Of course, in separate bedrooms.” Wendy moved closer to Arlene. “It wasn’t until I met Quinn that my body remembered those feelings.”

“I’m glad you told me about Jeff and about Kelly. You never wanted to talk about why you divorced Jeff and I didn’t want to pry.”

“I still can’t believe I married a gay man.” Wendy admitted, trying to laugh at the absurdity.

“Well, he married a gay woman,” Arlene said with a laugh.

Wendy finally smiled and laughed too. “Yeah, I guess he did.”

“So what are you going to do about Quinn?” Arlene asked, putting her arm around Wendy.

Wendy sniffled. “Nothing. I don’t want to start something and then go back to California. I couldn’t hurt her that way.”

“Are you sure you want to do that?”

“No, but that’s what I’m going to do.”

  CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Mary called Wendy the following morning. “Let’s have lunch today?” She asked.

“Sure. Where do you want to meet?”

“Come to my house so we can talk. It’s been a while since you and I just sat and talked to each other.”

  “What time?”

  “Noon.”

  “I’ll see you then.”

Wendy walked into Mary’s house and she was led to the living room. “Let’s have a seat and talk for a few minutes while lunch is heating up,” Mary said smiling.

“Where are the kids?” Wendy asked, hearing how quiet Mary’s usually noisy house sounded.

“Summer Camp,” Mary answered. “I’m just going to ask,” she said, not meeting Wendy’s gaze. “Are you having an affair with Quinn?”

“What?” Wendy swallowed hard and didn’t look at her friend.

“You two have been very cozy for a while now and don’t think I didn’t notice that you got into her car after the game. So I’m asking again, are you sleeping with her?”

  “No,” Wendy said softly.

“I expected you to say yes.” Mary admitted. “When you two are in a room,” she paused, “there is this sexual tension that you can cut with a knife.”

  “Well, nothing is going on.”

“You almost sound disappointed,” Mary said looking at the sad blue eyes. Now Mary asked something else confronting her friend. “Did you have a thing with Kelly Abbott?”

  “Yes.” Wendy answered whispering.

“So you are gay,” Mary said quickly.

“I don’t know, Mary.” Wendy answered, happy that she could finally talk to her friend about this. Keeping this inside was starting to wear on her nerves.

“I love both you and Quinn. I don’t want either one of you to get hurt.” Mary jumped up. “The casserole.” She ran to the kitchen.

Wendy followed. “Mary, you won’t say anything to Quinn?”

“I won’t say anything.” Mary dished out their lunch and they both sat down at the table. “Besides, Quinn has never been with a woman for any extended period. I don’t know if she’ll ever settle down.”

“I’m taking my mother to Raleigh for tests next week. I think she may be in remission.”

“So there will be no reason for you to stay?” Mary asked, looking at her friend.

“Not really.” Wendy shrugged, but she knew there was one reason why she should stay.

“But you are thinking of staying because of Quinn.”

“I don’t know. I just read a script that I thought was really, really good. If I decide to accept, I’ll be filming in California for three months.”

“Then it’s best that you don’t say anything to Quinn and go make your movie.”

“But Quinn could always visit me in California.” Wendy wanted so much to tell her friend that she and Quinn could work this out.

“Wendy, she has the store to run. Her mother can’t do it alone. That’s the reason she came back here in the first place.”

“Doesn’t she ever take a vacation?” Wendy asked nervously.

“Yeah, for a couple of days. Oh, Wendy.” Mary let out a breath. “This would kill Quinn if she found out you have feelings for her and just left,” Mary repeated.

“You just told me she’s never settled down with anyone and I don’t even know if she has feelings for me.”

“Look at her computer wallpaper. All the pictures are you. She’s been in love with you for years.”

  “That was Angie Wilson.
Not me,” she said, pointing to herself.

“You better tell Quinn you’re thinking of doing this movie. Don’t wait, Wendy. Let Quinn get on with her life.

“I’ll tell her Monday night after my mother’s test results. If the cancer is still there, I won’t be going anywhere.”

  CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Friday night was the next softball game. Quinn came right from the store and didn’t bother to call Wendy to ask if she wanted a ride. Quinn saw Wendy get out of Mary’s car. As the women took the field, she approached Wendy. “So are you still mad at me?”

Wendy laughed. “Quinn, I’m not mad at you. Why won’t you believe me?”

“Because you’ve changed. We’ve barely seen or talked to one another over these last few weeks.”

Wendy sighed. “Quinn, this is not the place to talk. Take me to your house after the game and I promise we will talk.”

Quinn nodded and took her position on the field.

After the game, Wendy went over to Mary. “I’m going to go home with Quinn.”

  “Are you sure that’s wise?”

“I need to talk to her. She thinks I’m angry with her,” Wendy explained.

  “Don’t hurt her, Wendy.”

“I won’t.” Wendy promised her friend.

“So what did you want to tell me?” Quinn asked as they both took a seat on the couch.

“Quinn, do you have feelings for me?” Wendy asked softly.

Quinn started to sweat. “Do I act as though I have feelings for you? Is that why you’ve been so quiet. Because you are afraid of me?”

“No, Quinn. I’m not afraid of you.” Wendy turned so she was facing Quinn. “Do you have feelings for me?” Wendy asked again.

Quinn shrugged not wanting to lie. “I think you are a fantastic woman. I liked you from the moment I saw you on TV, but the real woman is so much more.” Quinn grinned. “I’m a lesbian. Who wouldn’t have feelings for you?” She tried humor to deflect her feelings.

“So you’re saying you just have feelings for Wendy the actor and not Wendy the person?” Her head lowered at the reality.

Quinn moved closer to Wendy. “I like you, Wendy. I really like you and if things were different, I could feel so much more,” she said before she moved away again.

“Suppose I told you that I have feelings for you?” Wendy asked, softly staring at the green eyes that now opened wide.

Quinn moved away. “I would say that probably you are feeling just lonely and your feelings aren’t real.”

“Why would you say that?” Wendy asked, crossing her arms.

“Because you are straight.” Quinn answered in a huff.

“I had an affair with a woman in college.”

Quinn laughed out loud. “Plenty of straight women have done that in college. It doesn’t mean anything.”

“So if I told you the only other person I have been with was my husband. What would your answer be then?”

  “Really?”

“Really, and he turned out to be gay.”

  “Jeff Harris is gay?”

“I didn’t know it when I married him, but yes.” Wendy let out a breath. “Maybe I suspected, but I didn’t care because I couldn’t admit I was gay either.”

“So now you are telling me that you are gay?”

“I do have feelings for you, Quinn. A lot of my comments when you thought I was teasing you were true.”

“I don’t know what to say.” Quinn admitted.

“It doesn’t matter, Quinn because my mother goes in for her tests on Monday. If she is in recovery, I’ll be going back to California when a film becomes available.”

“Will you be staying in California or coming back?” Quinn asked, moving closer to Wendy.

“Do you want me to come back?” Wendy asked, anxiously awaiting Wendy’s answer.

“Yes,” she admitted freely and added, “Maybe I could visit you in California.” Quinn hoped her dreams were coming true.

“You would visit?” Wendy asked, shocked as her hand came up to Quinn’s cheek.

Quinn placed her hand on top of Wendy’s. “Yes.”

“So you are saying that you’d be willing to date me?” Wendy looked into the green eyes hoping against hope.

“Yes, Wendy. I want to date you.” As the words left her mouth, her eyes went to Wendy’s lips.

Who moved first wasn’t important, but they moved together and began to kiss. Quinn opened her mouth first and Wendy sucked on her tongue and scraped Quinn’s mouth with her tongue. They were getting hot and heavy when they pulled apart.

“You are such a good kisser,” Wendy said excitedly as her fingers went to her lips.

“So are you.” Quinn swallowed as her eyes went to Wendy’s chest. She could see her nipples poking through her bra and t-shirt.

“Hold that thought,” Wendy said as she moved to the end of the couch.

“I wasn’t doing anything.” Quinn tried to sound innocent, but the blush on her face said it all. “I’m only working until one o’clock tomorrow. Will you come over?”

Wendy nodded with a smile. “Yes.”

Quinn got up and took a key from a drawer in the foyer. “Use this in case you get here before me.”

Wendy stood up and put the key into her pocket. “Can you give me a ride home?”

They kissed for several minutes before they made it out to the car.

  CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Quinn got to her house before Wendy arrived and ran for the stairs so she could take a shower. Wendy walked in the front door just as Quinn was coming down the stairs. They both stopped and stared at one another. Wendy could tell that Quinn wasn’t wearing a bra as her nipples pushed against the front of the t-shirt. Quinn was the first to move and she walked down the steps slowly and stood in front of Wendy who hadn’t moved away from the door.

“Hi,” Quinn finally said, staring at the bright blue eyes. Her fingertips moved up lightly touching Wendy’s arms. Her touch now had Wendy trembling and she kissed her lips gently. She moved to her neck leaving tiny kisses. Her lips moved down to her collarbone and then back up to her neck. Wendy’s eyes remained transfixed, but didn’t hide the passion that was clearly visible. Quinn raised Wendy’s arms over her head as she moved her into the corner. Her free hand went under Wendy’s shirt and she used the back of her hand over the soft skin. Her lips came back to Wendy’s mouth and she kissed her deeper, but as Wendy tried to deepen the kiss, Quinn pulled away. Quinn now watched as Wendy’s breathing became faster. She reached for the zipper on her shorts and slowly slid them down her legs. Quinn now took her t-shirt and bra off allowing Wendy’s hands to finally come off the wall. She now feasted on Wendy’s firm breasts. Soft hands gently rolled one nipple as Quinn’s mouth suckled the other. Wendy now began to moan, moving her hips toward Quinn begging for contact. Quinn purposely moved away, prolonging Wendy’s excitement. She knew that Wendy deserved to have her body worshipped and not just brought to release. Her lips once again kissed Wendy’s pouty mouth, but this time she allowed their tongues to dance as Quinn brought their bodies together. Wendy now reached for Quinn trying to take her shorts off, but again her hands were seized and brought above her head.

  “Please, Quinn,” Wendy begged.

  “Patience, honey.”

Wendy was now moaning as Quinn sucked her nipple into her mouth as her hand went to the band on her panties.

  “Yes,” Wendy moaned.

But Quinn had other ideas. She got down on her knees and pushed her nose into her core knowing she would be soaked by now. Her nostrils flared taking in the musky scent that was Wendy. Her hands now went to the band on the underwear again and slowly lowered them off. As soon as the panties reached her knees, Wendy opened herself to Quinn.

“Quinn, I don’t know if I can keep standing,” Wendy moaned out as her head went back and forth.

Quinn moved her hands up to Wendy’s rear to steady her against the wall as she used her tongue to lap up her juices that we
re dripping down her leg. Her mouth sucked on the firm bud and she inserted two fingers into Wendy. Her legs began to move in a rhythm that told Quinn that she was close to coming.

“Oh, Quinn.” Wendy screamed as Quinn felt her muscles quiver as her orgasm hit her.

Quinn’s fingers slowly came out of Wendy, but her tongue continued to hold Wendy in place and she brought her to a second orgasm quickly.

“Oh, god, Quinn.” Wendy now began to slide to the floor in front of Quinn. “I need to rest.” Her breath sounded as if she had run a marathon.

Quinn allowed Wendy to sit on her legs. Their cores facing each other as Quinn now made love to Wendy’s mouth.

“I need to feel you, Quinn. Please,” she begged.

Quinn pulled off her t-shirt and their bodies came together again, but Wendy had other ideas. Quinn was now on her back and Wendy was pulling off her shorts.

“I need to touch you, Quinn,” she said looking into Quinn’s eyes. “Please let me touch you?” Wendy’s throat was tight with emotion as Quinn nodded giving Wendy a soft smile. Her hands came up and cupped Quinn’s small breasts. She looked at her in amazement as her hands glided over her skin watching her nipples becoming taut and firm. Wendy now moved her lips to the skin and kissed her chest, but left her lips off the nipple. It was now Quinn begging for Wendy’s lips on her breast. She suckled one nipple of her breast as her other hand moved lower wanting to touch her core. Wendy knew Quinn would be wet, but she wasn’t prepared for the wetness that seemed to be everywhere. “My, god, Quinn, you are so wet.”

Quinn’s head nodded in agreement. “You don’t have to, Wendy. Some women don’t like that I get so wet.”

Wendy just looked down into Quinn’s face and began her descent. Her eyes held mischief as she ignored Quinn’s words, knowing there was no way that she was not going to love Quinn with her mouth. By the time her tongue went into the folds, Quinn was squirming on the floor. Her fingers slid in easily as her mouth sucked the firm bud into her mouth. Quinn’s hips came up to meet her mouth and the orgasm hit her strongly. Her screams filled the house before her body dropped back onto the wood floor.
