She handed him a beer and he cracked the top off and they went topside.
“So did you ever find out who sent you that Valentine’s card?” he asked.
“Why? You going to confess?”
He laughed. “Please. The day I send you a Valentine’s card, Reid, will be the day I check myself into the nuthouse.”
They took a seat on the edge of the boat, dangling their legs off. Skylar glanced down at his pasty white knees. “For a man who has lived his entire life in the Sunshine State, those knees don’t look like they’ve seen any.”
“That’s because the last time I wore shorts, I nearly caused a traffic jam.”
She laughed. They sat there in silence basking in the morning sun. Without looking at her, a few minutes later he piped up, “Reid.”
“Yeah?”
“You were going to shoot him, weren’t you?”
“You bet.”
“Then why didn’t yah?”
She sniffed hard, and a smile formed. “Because I didn’t wanna cause a traffic jam.”
He laughed hard. “I’ll drink to that,” he said and they clinked their bottles.
