The man had done what he’d promised—he’d fucked her until her viewpoint changed. But it wasn’t just the physical pleasure she experienced with him. No, the way Konstantine had stared at her with no barriers, the way he’d whispered to her how perfect she was, and the way he’d held her afterwards all left her contented and satisfied. No one else would ever be able to take her there, make her as happy as he did. This insane, hilarious, adorably sweet man was hers—hers—and she’d be damned if she’d let him go. Damned to look for something she’d never find with anyone else.
Catching her bottom lip, she bit down as he reached between them to rub her clit between his thumb and forefinger, causing spots to dance behind her closed lids.
“Look at me, Sweets,” he demanded above her.
She locked gazes with him and he stared back, hair falling around his face, brows drawn downwards in concentration as he pushed his length forward over and over again.
“I love you,” she whispered. She’d been hiding from him, selfishly. Harper knew it had to be frustrating to have her running from him, but fight or flight had been riding her hard. No more running and no more hiding. This was it.
His smile was slow and so warm it took her breath away for a moment, leaving her suspended as an orgasm rushed up her core and fanned outwards. “Love you too, Sweets.”
Harper came screaming his name without an iota of shame about it.
Epilogue
Five years later…
Konstantine crept along the edges of the hallway, listening to the much smaller steps trailing behind him until he finally reached the kitchen. Peeking inside, he shot quick glances around every corner before looking over his shoulder.
“You ready, Cookie?” he questioned, calling his daughter by her nickname.
Four-year-old Marlow Vetrov nodded her small head, dark curls shaking all over the place, her wide blue eyes twinkling up at him. He grinned down at his baby girl, the result of what he’d done to Harper the night she found out he’d had a condo and cars the whole time he’d been staying with her just five short years ago. “Mommy’s not around. Know what that means?”
“Cookies!” Marlow cheered, dancing around and looking more like her mother than anything.
“Shh,” he hushed her. “We have to be quiet or what happens?”
“Mommy busts us like the coppers and you get in trouble,” she whispered.
He nodded. “Exactly.” Reaching down, he waited for her to leap into his arms then hauled her upwards and walked towards the double-door fridge. “You see ’em yet?”
“No,” Marlow answered.
Konstantine lifted her higher. “What about now?”
“No.”
“Looking for something?” Harper asked, appearing out of nowhere.
Father and daughter screamed in unison, spinning around to find her standing in the doorway, brow quirked and a small tin in her hand.
“You’re skulking. Why are you skulking?” he asked, and then looked at his daughter, whose innocent face was in full effect. “What do we say when Mommy skulks, Cookie?”
She waved a small finger. “Skulking makes Daddy wanna spank you.”
His wife rolled her eyes, waddling towards them, her six-months-pregnant belly leading the way. “Come here, Cookie.” Harper took Marlow out of his arms. “What’s Daddy doing when he says stuff like that?”
“Being skeevey.” Their daughter answered dutifully.
“That’s right.” She set Marlow on the counter and opened a tin, handing their girl a cookie. “And what happens when Daddy’s being skeevey?”
“He sleeps alone.”
“Ah, that’s my girl.” Harper handed her another treat and turned to Konstantine, her grin wide and bright.
Konstantine narrowed his eyes on his wife. “She has to take a nap at some point, Sweets.”
She smirked. “I just gave her two double fudge chocolate chip cookies. When, pray tell, do you think she’ll be sleeping?”
With a wide gaze, he looked from her and then toward their daughter. “You’re a cruel, cruel woman, Mrs. Vetrov.”
She grabbed a cookie for herself, took a bite then placed the rest between his lips. “What I am is a planner, baby.” Wiping Marlow’s face and hands, she asked, “Who wants to be my kitchen assistant today?” Harper worked from home more these days, letting her assistant manager takeover at Sweet Treats so she could dedicate more time to tending to Marlow.
“Do I get more cookies?” Cookie inquired. The kid had that nickname for a reason.
“If you do a good job,” Harper answered.
“I’m in!”
Konstantine watched them mill about the kitchen, grabbing supplies to bake a cake, his heart warming at the way they teased each other back and forth, Harper swiping flour onto Marlow’s nose and their baby girl returning the favor. He spent his days and nights with the two most important people in his life, and even when he had to travel they were with him.
When he went into the office, Marlow was at his side. When he came home, he was constantly bugging the shit out of his wife. Getting her pregnant with their second child had been no easy feat. The softball game to end all softball games had ensued, and now here they were with another little girl on the way. Something Nana Margo, Papa Ivan, his in-laws, and Owen and Janet were more than happy about.
He wondered if the new baby would have Harper’s smile and mannerisms like Marlow did or if she’d be a blend of them both. He wondered if she’d ever be interested in softball or love baking more. He wondered if she’d be as much of a Daddy’s girl as her older sister was.
He wondered if he could ever be this happy or full without them, and knew the answer to that was a resounding no. The reason why? Because he’d found the sweetest thing, and he was never letting it go.
