As I researched Ronan, I tried multiple times to convince my husband I needed to go to Scotland in order to get the feel of the story right.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t buying it.
This book was a ton of fun to write, and Google Earth, Wikipedia, and YouTube were my friends.
I have a sign over my desk that says, Sometimes I Make Stuff Up. So, research wise, most of the ghost stories in this book are accurate in terms of the ghosts that live in the castles, vaults, and everywhere else. (Of course, told in my own words.)
But … I had to fudge a couple of the tourist times and dates to make it work, as some of the places are closed earlier, or in October. Also, I’m pretty sure no one would visit the places in the order Ronan and Ashley did, but, hey, refer back to Sometimes I Make Stuff Up!
As for the story, well, I just love writing these ghosts. I think Ronan and Ashley fit so well together. She’s obsessed with geeky stuff, and he’s obsessed with her. It just seemed to click and really made them a joy to write.
Fun fact: My grandmother was a Moultrie, so that was kind of fun to stick that in there.
I hope you enjoyed the story! And I hope it makes you want to visit Scotland, because that’s the effect it had on me. I really, really want to take those ghost tours!
