Gertie threw up her hands. “No wonder you’ve been feeling sick.”
“Jimmy and I are waiting until we’re married.” Jayne clutched her gown to her chest and smiled brightly.
I laughed, but it was more of a nervous sound. “No wonder he’s in such a hurry.”
“What about the wedding pictures and Madison’s black eyes?” Gertie worried. “I want you and your granny to be happy.”
“Hmm,” Jayne said, breaking out into a broad grin. She kicked off her shiny white wedding shoes and plopped the dress on the bed. “I know exactly how we can have an awesome photo session and honor my man at the same time.”

The crowd gathered along the pier behind Jimmy’s house as the metal statue of Jayne loomed over their heads. I must say, it’s the first wedding I’d attended where the sound of beer cans popping open preceded the wedding march.
The moan of a boat motor filled the air as Jimmy arrived on a pontoon boat, dressed in new jeans, a crisp white shirt, and a camouflage print vest. He looked pretty darn good, at least compared to the red boxers I’d seen him in the night before.
He leapt from the boat onto the dock and slapped high-fives with a bunch of his buddies before taking his place for the nuptials.
The music started, signaling it was time for the wedding march. “Time to do your thing,” I said, adjusting the wedding rings that hung around Shiner’s neck. I gripped his leash as we strode down the grass aisle toward Granny. Fortune and Ida Belle sat in the back and made funny faces at me to keep things fun.
One of the ushers handed me a beer as I reached the front, and not knowing what else to do, I leaned back and took a big gulp as the crowd cheered me on.
Granny’s head jerked with shock when she saw my face. I was covered in make-up all right, but not eye shadow. Gertie followed the bride’s instructions and covered my eyes with camo face paint.
In fact, the entire bridal party looked like a duck hunt gone wrong, sporting camo duds and the face paint we’d raided from Sinful’s General Store at the last minute. The photographer went wild, and I had no doubt the video of this wedding would be going viral. My greatest wish was that I was unrecognizable.
Jimmy cried as he saw Jayne march up the aisle in a wedding dress and a touch of camo face paint around the eyes. He looked at her with so much love that it made Granny cry, which made me cry, which made the crowd cry, which caused more beer cans to pop open.
It was the best wedding I’d ever attended and filled with the most devotion.
May they live in joy forever.
Now, let me get on with my vacation.
The End.
