Kurt eyed the overflowing vase. McKenna did her best to stuff the violets inside with the other flowers. He nodded at it. “How long do you plan to let this go on?”
“As long as Terry continues sending them, I suppose.”
His mind shuddered to a stop. “Do you mean to tell me you’ve known all along who’s sending you gifts?”
McKenna pulled a face. It went far at telling him what she thought of his intelligence. “Of course I do. Otherwise, it would be creepy.”
“Of course.” Even he could hear the dry note to his words.
“Terry used to send letters every day after Gray died. I guess he finally decided I wouldn’t read them and he started sending flowers instead. Since I didn’t realize the first one was from him, I accepted the delivery. He had me. They haven’t stopped coming.”
“Wait. Did you say Terry?”
She nodded. “Yeah. Terry. My brother-in-law. Since the two of you came to the charity auction together, I assumed you knew as much.”
He was an idiot. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “That bastard.” With any luck, one day soon Terry would get what was coming to him. It would be fun watching him fall. Lord knew, it was the best thing that had ever happened to Kurt.
