Silvia chuckled under her breath. Above them, The Shell glistened in the afternoon sunlight. Turning around, Carter felt her presence under his arm, taking the pressure off his gimpy leg.
“Shall we head back, then?” she asked, smiling up at him. “I’ll catch my death if we stand out here much longer.”
Carter nodded, allowing his companion to assist him as he limped back toward the church.
“I’ll follow your lead, milady.”
Author’s Note
Hello. My name is J.D. Miller. As the author of The Steel Harvest, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to step into this exciting new world with me. Carter and Silvia are just beginning their journey west, but at the same time, this signals the end in a long, winding journey for me. This book marks my first published novel, the realization of a dream developed over a decade ago.
I have so many people to thank. Adam, for his never-ending enthusiasm for my work. Gail, Drew, and Ethan, for helping me brainstorm when the writer’s block broke me down. Jay Direx, for helping me cut away the unnecessary flab holding back my work. My parents and grandparents, for supporting me both emotionally and financially as I strove for perfection. And to Karen and Jennifer, for polishing the final product to a shine.
Yes, this is the end of a journey. But, as one story ends, another begins, and I know a certain duo with a few more stories to tell.
Until next time,
J.D. Miller
