But, when Tiffany walked into the elevator at the same time that she did that morning, she couldn’t hide the fact that she had two coffees with her.
Tiffany hadn’t said anything to her besides good morning, but the way she glanced at the coffee in Amy’s hands made Amy feel very self-conscious. At first, she had tried to avoid the topic, but she soon realized just how long it took for the elevator to rise from the ground floor up to the law firm, and the silence between them only made her feel more awkward.
When she felt that the silence had grown too awkward to be bearable, she finally broke and tried to explain to the other woman what was going on. “He just told me this morning that he thought coffee sounded good. You know he’s been working on that big Carter case, and he probably isn’t sleeping as well as he could be.”
She laughed nervously, and Tiffany gave her a smile. She didn’t say anything, which only made Amy feel more uncomfortable. “It’s really nothing but coffee, you know. I mean, I’m not really one to get into dating coworkers.”
She laughed once again, and Tiffany gave her another look. She shrugged and turned to Amy. “Look, I don’t care what you are doing with Roland – no one does. You think that you’re the first one he’s flirted with? It’s his thing.”
The door opened and Tiffany told Amy to have a good day, leaving before the two of them could gossip about Roland any further. Amy wanted to ask her what she meant about this being Roland’s “thing”, but she didn’t have the chance to pursue it any further. Perhaps she meant that Roland didn’t have a problem with people bringing him coffee? Or was there something more to it?
Either way, it didn’t matter to her as she stepped out of the elevator and headed for her own table at the back of the room. She had to pass most of the other desks along the way, and she couldn’t help but feel that they were all staring at her and judging her for having the two coffees in her hands. She briefly thought about what Tiffany had said, but she pushed her words out of her mind as she reached her desk.
After setting her things down, she walked quickly over to Roland’s office and knocked on the door, smiling warmly as she walked inside. Roland was on the phone, but he motioned for her to wait for him to be done as she set the coffee down on the table. Amy hesitated, feeling awkward as she tried not to listen to him. He appeared to be agitated with the client on the other end of the line, and it didn’t bother him in the slightest that she was standing in his office listening in.
When he hung up, he wiped his face with his hands and grumbled.
“There’s a reason I have a secretary, you know,” he said and she smiled.
“Angry customer?” she asked, and he shook his head.
“He can go fuck himself to be honest. Anyway, I am going to New York City next week on business,” he said. Amy looked at him in surprise.
“I’ll keep an eye on things while you’re gone,” she said uncertainly, but he shook his head with a sly smile.
“Actually, I was hoping that you might go with me.”
Chapter 5
(Manhattan New York)
“No, see? You aren’t listening. You have to play them easy then drive them hard. That’s the only way you are going to make it anywhere in this business.” Roland laughed as the two of them settled into the taxi, and Amy shook her head.
“It didn’t look like you were playing him very easy. In fact, he seemed to be on the verge of giving up on the whole thing when he changed his mind for some reason.” Roland laughed in response.
“That’s what I’m talking about – easy. Anyway, that’s enough business talk for the day. You look lovely, and I’m hoping that we are going to have a wonderful night ahead of us.” He had told the driver to take them to a nearby night club, and Amy felt her heart once again skip in her chest as she thought about it. New York was dazzling, and they had spent the entire day meeting with the biggest names in business of all kinds – from software engineers to real estate tycoons. But, at the end of the day, Roland announced that he was tired of all the work and ready for some play.
And he wanted Amy to join him.
Although her first instinct was to turn him down, his smile changed her mind. She’d never been out on the town with a billionaire, and she didn’t know if this sort of opportunity would ever happen in life again – she figured she’d better live it up now, after all you only live once.
After some brief shopping, she had found the perfect cocktail dress for the night, and she soon found herself on Roland’s arm as they walked into the nightclub. The music was blasting and party people of all sorts were dancing, laughing, and stomping toes all over the dance floor. The bar and patio areas were illuminated like a sea of fireworks with the sparklers that come with expensive drinks and bottle service. The bathrooms were co-ed and Amy could see couples socializing while going in. It wasn’t the first night club Amy had been to, but it was certainly the first one like this she had ever seen.
“Hey! Look who it is!” Roland suddenly caught her attention as he pointed to a face she recognized from earlier. She remembered he was part of some sort of software company, but she had met so many people that day she couldn’t remember his name for the life of her.
“Who is he?”
“It’s Sha’Kee Brown – you remember?”
“Oh…., the way he pronounced it, it sounded like Stinky Brown, I would’ve hated to have called him Stinky on accident” he gave her a playful nudge with his shoulder as they walked in, and she nodded as particles of recognition suddenly filled her mind.
“That’s right! Should we say hi?” she asked, but her question was answered for her when Sha’Kee motioned for the two of them to come over, his face clearly lighting up with happiness and recognition.
“Mr. Carr! Miss Daily! How good to see you! What the perfect place to wind down after a busy day of making money, huh?” He smiled warmly at the two of them, motioning for them to take a seat at the bar. Roland held the chair out for Amy, and she smiled as she slipped into place.
“What is the lovely lady having to drink?” he asked.
“Let’s start her with a vodka cranberry, how’s that sound?” Roland answered for her. At first, she was rather surprised and somewhat offended that he would take the liberty to answer in her stead, but she brushed off the offense and nodded.
“That would be just fine, thank you,” she replied. Sha’Kee snapped his fingers, wasting no time in getting the drink in front of her. She took it with a smile and sipped it through the tiny black straws that were provided, doing her best to hold her own with the conversation that was taking place between the two men around her.
Roland settled right into the conversation with Sha’Kee, and though Amy didn’t feel that she had much to add personally, she had to agree that she was intrigued by what the two men were talking about. It was like listening to people from a planet called smart – and trying to keep up with them when it came to the drinks.
Amy felt that she was suddenly thrust into a whole new realm as she started with the third round, and when Sha’Kee suggested that they do a round of shots, she worried what Roland would think about her.
“Go on, have some fun and cut loose! When’s the next time you’re going to get to do anything like this?” he teased. So, Amy dove in. Of course, she had to slip away to the bathroom a few times in between, but she was eager to dive back into the fun when she came back out. Sha’Kee and Roland were great with including her in the conversation, making sure she was part of the group though they were also arguing about business from time to time as well.
Amy was laughing and playing right along with them, and she was pleased when she was able to give her own opinions about what was going on and how things were going to work out in different situations. Being able to give Sha’Kee advice made her feel like she was one of the crowd – someone who could hold her own with the best in business, and that she was given the same credit that Roland himself was being given, though she wasn’t nearly the same kind of b
usiness individual that he was.
“Are you down for another?” Roland called to her when she finished her third shot. She laughed and shook her head.
“I’ve got to go to the bathroom!” She laughed as she stood up extra tipsy from the chair and made her way back into the crowded room, smiling and pushing her way through the people. She quickly dabbed some powder on her nose and refreshed her lipstick, emerging from the co-ed bathroom with the same fresh face she had when they arrived at the club – and ready to take on more of the party.
Amy stopped suddenly, surprised at the sight that met her when she returned. Both men were now engaged in a No Holes Barred Slap Match with each other, and the wager was Sha’Kee’s new jet. Immediately seeing that alcohol was likely having a much greater influence in the decision to play this game, she rushed over.
“Roland? What are you guys doing?” she asked, but he was too engrossed in the game to pay her any attention. Amy cleared her throat and took a step forward.
“Do you really think this is a good idea?” she asked, but he held up his hand to silence her.
“Don’t ruin my concentration!” he barked. Amy sighed and crossed her arms. There was no way this would end well for either one of them, and she didn’t know how she was going to take care of it when it didn’t.
Chapter 6
During an inebriated conversation with herself, Amy had to admit she wasn’t ready for what she was witnessing. Both men were swinging open hands at each other like axes chopping wood. This was a sight that could only take place in the movies, and for a second, it was almost as if they were contesting over her. Of course, both were merely trying to prove a point to the other, and both were doing a fine job of showing off their own masculinity, but it didn’t take away from any of the thrill of the moment as it was happening.
Amy had watched with amazement – even crying out from time to time at the violence in front of her. She had never before witnessed such a thing in front of her very eyes, and though part of it was rather upsetting to her, another part of it was far more invigorating than anything she had imagined.
After landing and receiving a flurry of two dozen blows, Roland broke the rules and punched Sha’Kee square in the face – knocking him unconscious. Though the body guards were clearly not happy with the way the fight had ended, they remained true to the agreement and did nothing as he was picked up off the floor and carried away.
Amy could hardly stand the wetness between her legs as Roland grabbed the title to the jet and the pilot by the tie, dragging him out to the limo we had outside. Amy blacked out for a few minutes but by the time they were up in the air, her panties were damp with anticipation. The flirtation was so intense she felt like a giddy schoolgirl riding in the car of her long time crush.
Roland told the pilot to fly low over New York City, they would likely be heading back home before the night was out. Together they had gotten through all the meetings, presentations, and contractual obligations. Winning the jet was the final trophy Roland needed before he gave the ok to head home.
Roland suddenly grabbed a bottle of champagne that was left on ice near the door, shaking it and popping off the top, showering Amy with the sticky liquid. She had been rather offended at first, but as he began drinking it off her she moaned and writhed with pleasure. She hadn’t cared when her clothing came off – in fact, she had done her part in tearing his clothes free from his body as well.
Amy was breathing hard, the champagne running down her naked breast and between her legs – right into Roland’s mouth. It doesn’t matter that he has a black eye or the crusty residue of a bloody nose hanging around his nostrils – he won the game and the title to the jet, and they were now engaged in the hottest sex she could imagine in every corner of the aircraft.
As they enjoyed each other’s bodies, the champagne flowed freely dampening everything within a one foot radius. The sex – first in the lounge of the jet then to the bathroom, from there any surface sturdy enough to support them. Amy had always feared that her first time would be painful, and when she saw the size of Roland, she was even more concerned – but, she was so aroused by the situation that he easily slid into her, causing her to moan all the more.
She climaxed several times before he did, and when he had finished, he rolled off the couch and looked at her with a satisfied smile.
“Oh, my God, you are so tight! Er, are you okay?” He looked down at the floor, and she felt embarrassed to see traces of blood. She knew she could blame some of it on his own injuries, but there was no hiding where it was spilling out from between her legs. Amy smiled with embarrassment as she quickly grabbed a tower out of the bathroom.
“Yes, I uh – I guess I should have told you that I’m on my period. Sorry, I didn’t think that you would mind too much,” she said with a light laugh. She looked at him with worry in her eyes, but there was almost a look of relief that washed over his face.
“Oh, not at all! I was just hoping that there wasn’t anything really important that you needed to tell me is all. There’s a reason they make carpet steamers!” He laughed as he picked up his clothes and started to pull his shirt back on, and she forced her own chuckle as she began to slip back into her dress.
“Well, since tonight seems like a good night for surprises, I thought I should let you know that I’m not quite finished with my excursions.” Roland was pulling his pants on, and she looked at him with raised eyebrows.
“Are you staying in New York?” she asked, and he shook his head.
“I’ve got to go abroad, this time, and it’s got to be alone. Do you think you can manage things back at the company?” He looked at her with raised eyebrows, and though she was confused, she nodded.
“Of course,” she said with a tone of uncertainty in her voice.
“Good, that’s my good girl,” he said with a smile. She blushed, and settled in with a glass of the champagne.
Chapter 7
“What’s all the commotion about?” Amy asked when she walked into the office a couple of days later. Roland was already gone on his next trip, and she was eager to prove to him that she could handle things in his absence. Things had been going well the first two days – but now, everyone was chatting excitedly and no one was where they should be in the office.
“Haven't you seen the paper? Roland’s in big trouble,” one of her colleagues informed her. Her eyes widened as she snatched the paper from his hand.
“What?” she skimmed the article. The FBI wanted to talk to Roland about the plane that was recently put in his name – an anonymous tip told them that there were a lot of drugs in the landing gear, and their immediate investigation found it to be true. She knew Sha’Kee had to be the one to give them the tip – no one else would have known about the drugs and now Roland was the one who was going to get in trouble.
“I’m going to take the blame,” Cassandra said suddenly. Amy was puzzled but she couldn’t help but laugh as she looked over at the girl.
“Are you crazy? Why the Hell would you do something like that?” She shook her head.
“Because I’m still in love with him,” Cassandra replied, and Amy gave her a strange look and leaned in.
“What are you talking about?” she asked.
“Geez, you really are out of the loop, aren’t you?” Baily said as she rolled her eyes.
“They’ve only been divorced for like six months.”
Confusion, Anger, and hurt rattled Amy’s mind, she felt like someone had punched her in the stomach. Amy looked down then scanned the room to see everyone’s facial expressions.
“You were married to Roland?”
“Yes, but I thought I was over him. Now, thinking that he is going to go to prison for something he didn’t do – we might not have gotten along very well, but I can’t let that happen to him. I’ve already got drugs in my past, I know how I can get off easy with this one.” Cassandra spoke with determination in her voice, but Amy’s head was spinning. She couldn’t believe what
she was hearing, and it was making her feel sick.
How was she the only one in the office who didn’t know about the couple’s previous marriage? How was it possible that he Roland hadn’t bothered mentioning it to her when he knew that she was good friends with Cassandra? Cassandra herself ought to have said something, and Amy didn’t know how the woman watched as she and Roland had grown so close without saying anything.
Her knees felt weak, and she was afraid she might be sick. Taking a deep breath, she walked into Roland’s office. She needed to talk to him, but that was going to be nearly impossible while he was out of the country. The only way she would be able to get a hold of him was when he was back at his hotel – and that wouldn’t be until later that afternoon. Amy took a deep breath as she sat down at the desk, her mind whirling.
She wasn’t completely comfortable with Roland, but the betrayal and violation gave her the strength to confront him about what he had done. It wasn’t going to be an easy conversation to have, but she was bold and angry enough to go through with it. She couldn’t just turn a blind eye to what he was doing like everyone else always did.

“I feel like a rebound!” Amy fought to keep her voice under control. She had tried to ask Roland about his previous marriage, but he had only grown defensive about it, telling her that she had no business diving into his personal life.
“You aren’t a rebound, you are a hot young woman whom I wanted to have sex with – so I did. I didn’t hear any complaints from you, to be honest,” he remarked and she let the air out through her teeth with a hiss, trying to think of what to say. She couldn’t break up with him, because they weren’t officially together. But, at the same time, she didn’t know how she was going to just forget about this.
Amy felt that he really should have said something to her about it, and it angered her that he was now treating it as though it really was no big deal. It mattered a lot to her, and she wasn’t afraid to tell him so. But, she knew she wasn’t going to get anywhere with him right now – it was likely going to have to wait until he got back to the United States.
