  “Yes,” I whispered.

He hugged me, spinning us around in the water until I lost all sense of direction, then he kissed me, soft and slow and with every bit of passion and tenderness he had. He pulled away, a concerned look on his gorgeous face.

“I won’t have to, I don’t know, meet the Queen or anything, will I?”

“Actually, you will. But it’s nothing too strenuous. Just a three day meet and greet where you’ll have to remember everyone’s title, all the proper greetings, and proper etiquette.”

Jeffrey’s eyes went wide. “You’re kidding me.”

“I am,” I said and laughed as he poked me in the ribs. “You will have to meet my family, and that does include the Queen. But they’re much less stuffy than you’d imagine. Besides, you get a title out of it.”

  “I do?”

  “You do.”

Jeffrey pulled me close again and held me tight. “If I had to go through a fortnight of royal interviews and only eating tea and crumpets, I’d still do it. You’re one hundred percent worth it.”

I smiled, blushing fiercely as the look in Jeffrey’s eyes changed. I knew that look, it was the look. Smoldering and sexy, he looked me up and down, lingering over the bits he liked best until my thighs shook. Sweet, tense pressure built between my legs as he leaned into me, pressing his forehead against mine. “Come for me, my lady.”

It overwhelmed me like nothing had before. One minute I stood there getting incredibly turned on, and the next I was coming all over the place without so much as a touch from him.

I braced myself against him as the orgasm tore through me until finally my shaking and groaning stopped. “I can’t believe that just happened,” I said, staring into his beautiful, smiling eyes.

“I can. I told you I’d get you there.”

  “You did. You absolutely did.”

  Epilogue

  Jeffrey

THAT JULY, SERENE AND I eloped in Vegas, married by the one and only Elvis. Seriously. It was every cliché you could imagine, a chapel that smelled like cigarette smoke, a jaded receptionist whose hoarse voice made me think she had something to do with the smoky aroma, and an Elvis who was only passable as Elvis if you were very, very drunk. But it was important to us both that we were married on our terms, where and when and how we wanted, not the way the royal family expected.

So six months later, on the day of our “real” winter wedding, I stood there in a bespoke suit and watched Serene come down the aisle in a couture gown with hundreds of people I didn’t know looking and crying and gasping, I took great pride in the knowledge that we’d already done this our way.

Getting to this point hadn’t been easy. Initially, Serene was expected to return to England for the wedding and then take her place in the aristocracy, living her life attending the various charities and boards she was to join. You can imagine her reaction. She wanted no part of that and eventually told her family that she would only concede to a royal wedding if that meant she could go back to her life in the States.

Her father pleaded her case and eventually the powers that be relented, allowing Serene to have her cake and eat it too, so to speak.

“Hey,” she said when she reached the altar. “Ready?”

I nodded, surprised to find my voice choked off by the lump in my throat. She was so beautiful, so perfect, so right for me. I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to have hit the jackpot twice in my life.

Serene was my world. And I was hers. And I couldn’t wait to “start” our life together as husband and wife.
