We would like to arrange some music for your listening pleasure. Is there a particular album or selection of music you would like to listen to in your room during your stay? I prefer quiet—especially in hotel rooms.
We know that you may be working during your stay, and we are aware of how important it is for you to have all your creature comforts around you. In order to ensure that your stay is as fulfilling as possible...
We have a wide selection of food available for room service delivery. What would your most decadent meal be and why?
I’d like chocolate-covered strawberries delivered when I finish my next book! Yum.
Do you have any special requests for your stay at our hotel?
Just lovely quiet, a very deep and decadent tub, and a pretty view!
What is your worst habit when writing?
Slouching. I swear I’ll cripple myself. Thank goodness for long massages!
Do you have a writing routine? If so, could you share a bit about it with us?
I write pretty much all day. I try to start at 9:00 a.m. and finish around 6:00 p.m., as I like to take the evening off and relax a bit. I usually spend too much time online and have to limit myself—which I’m no good at, so I use a program called Self Control to turn off all social media for three hours at a time!
We’re always looking to expand the Chatsfield Library and welcome recommendations. What are the last two books you read and why?
The last two books I read were Lock & Key by Cat Porter, because bikers are just way too hot, and Having Her by Jackie Ashenden, because it’s one of the best love stories ever, ever, ever!
If you could write anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I like to explore when I travel, which means I prefer to write at home—but I love travelling! I’d go anywhere.
We can tell from your recent published book that you have a vested interest in our very own hotels! So (curious minds want to know!) are you team Chatsfield or Team Harrington?!
I don’t think I really want to choose—both sound so lovely!
What did you most love about writing this story?
I loved the passion between Theo and Holly that neither one of them could deny!
What has been your best hotel experience and what made it memorable?
My absolute favourite hotel experience ever was in a glorious country hotel not far from Bath, England, called Lucknam Park. I was only seventeen and abroad for the first time ever with my parents at Christmas time, and I spent one of the most marvellous evenings of my life tucked away in a gorgeously well-appointed room, feasting on room service and pretending I was the queen of something. What a great night!
What has been your most unusual hotel experience and why?
During my backpacking days I stayed in some strange places, like the “party hostels” all over the world. There was one outside Harare, Zimbabwe, that was particularly nutty. All laundry and DJs and oddly feral twenty-somethings lounging about looking dangerous and appealing at once...
If you could have given your hero or heroine a piece of advice before they started on their journey in your story, what would it have been?
Listen to each other. Be honest with yourselves and each other. And don’t be so afraid to love. It’s supposed to feel like you’re risking everything, or what’s the point?
Thank you for answering our questions. We very much hope you enjoy your stay!
WELCOME TO
Dear Theo Tsoukatos,
To ensure that your stay at the Chatsfield is as exclusive and private as possible, we will need to ask you a few questions of perhaps a delicate nature, to ensure that our private security team will be best placed to support you.
If you had to pick your most public scandalous moment, what would it be?
The point is that I do not wish to choose between moments dubbed “scandalous” by the vicious paparazzi, of which there were many before my ill-conceived marriage. I am staying at The Chatsfield because I wish to avoid any further such moments.
Was there an even more scandalous event that didn’t make it into the press?
There are usually many, every evening, but a gentleman does not share these things.
What is your biggest secret?
As I haven’t shared that with my famously estranged wife, why would I share it with a questionnaire?
What do you love most about Holly?
At the moment it is the fact that staying at this hotel—where we spent our honeymoon four years ago—will almost certainly hurt her feelings. Assuming she has any.
What were your first thoughts when you saw Holly?
If you mean on the computer a few days ago, which is the first time I’ve seen her in years, they were not exactly kind.
If your house was on fire and you could only save one thing, what would it be?
Myself. I am Greek. We know how to rebuild.
What is the naughtiest thing you did at school?
I can’t possibly remember all their names.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
I am rarely guilty.
What is your worst habit?
Falling head-over-heels for gold-digging Americans.
What is your favourite film?
I’m partial to 300, though I’d prefer a different ending.
What present would you put beneath the Christmas tree for Holly?
If she is very lucky, and very well-behaved, it won’t explode.
How will you spend your first anniversary as a couple?
We spent our first anniversary reflecting on our six months of separation. What delightful memories. Please make certain I am not disturbed with further impertinent questions during my stay.
Thank you for your candour. We will endeavour to ensure a scandal free time during your stay with us!
