“I need to feel you, Maisie. You’re ready for me now.”
I could only nod.
His hands on my hips, Gabriel thrust himself deep inside me. My inner walls gripped him, and he gasped. Over and over he plunged into me. Pulling out, only to drive back in. The sensation a delightful torture. The onslaught of my senses was soon too much and I could feel the flutters of another climax building, taking me away.
Gabriel could feel it too. We were utterly in sync. Together we rocked our hips into a final explosion of carnal desire. I trembled as he shuddered. Two kindred spirits in ecstasy.
Our bodies sagged against each other. We were completely spent. Our spirits finally bonded.
Gabriel pulled the sheets over us and then gathered me in his arms.
“Do you have any idea how beautiful you are to me?” he said.
“I think I might.”
And I truly did. Any doubt was gone. Gabriel and I were together. Exactly where we were meant to be.
EPILOGUE
MAISIE
I pulled the soft cotton covers tightly around me. I had spent more time in Gabriel’s bed than out of it these past several months.
He had moved me into his place in the city right away. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, not that I would have said it in a million years. Each day we spent together was a gift. I couldn’t believe how lucky I was. Gabriel didn’t agree, he swore he was the lucky one. He was already asking me where I wanted to make our permanent home. I had yet to answer that question as I was still getting used to having the whole world at my feet.
My life had been a whirlwind since he had arrived at my door with Mugg. That crazy dog had taken to his new life of luxury in no time. I’m sure at this stage Mugg might even turn his nose up at food that dared to come out of a can. Gabriel’s staff spoiled Mugg so much that I worried we might have a canine diva on our hands.
I had gone down to casual status at the hospital after Gabriel told me I never needed to work again if I didn’t want to. Most days I loved being a nurse. Helping people was still my calling, so I hadn’t wanted to give it up completely. It was great acting as a floater, as now, it was on my schedule. Gabriel was completely supportive.
Anna had let me know how jealous Rachel had been when she heard that I was moving in with Gabriel. When Anna had told me about Rachel’s sleazy attempt with her phone number, I had been so angry, but the fact that Gabriel had chosen me, and I was happily in his arms every night, was better than any revenge could be.
Rachel and her opinions no longer mattered to me.
Gabriel and his unconditional love had taught me that I was enough. I had come to understand that I was beautiful inside and out, and I didn’t need that validation from others. My confidence had grown and for that I would always be thankful.
I could hear Gabriel coming back to the bedroom with the jingle of Mugg’s collar right behind him. He came in carrying a steaming cup of coffee and placed it on the nightstand on my side.
God, I loved him. Gabriel brought me a coffee morning every morning as he refused to allow his employees in our room. He said it was our sanctuary, no one else was allowed to disturb it. Except Mugg, whose presence Gabriel didn’t even attempt to prevent.
I turned and looked over at the coffee. “What? No chocolate this morning?”
He was unrepentant, as I reached up to wipe the tiny fleck of chocolate off his bottom lip.
“Don’t judge me, woman. You were still asleep and since I didn’t want to wake you, I needed something just as sweet as you in my mouth instead.”
“Just as?” I teased.
“Not even close.”
Gabriel’s lips captured mine in a sweet kiss. His love for chocolate only made him that much more adorable. Some women might prefer sandalwood, but I knew there was nothing in this world more alluring than a man that smelled of cocoa.
He pulled the sheets down from my shoulders and kissed each one before covering them again.
Mugg barked.
“It seems he doesn’t like you sharing your attention.”
“Oh stop, Mugg loves you, he’s just being silly.”
Mugg barked again.
I had no idea what was bothering him. It wasn’t like him to be a pest.
“He must have something important to say.” Gabriel pat the bed. “Come up then, tell us what’s so important.”
I sat up as Mugg jumped up on to the bed. He gave Gabriel a quick lick and then plunked himself directly in my lap.
What on earth?
The sun coming in through our wall of windows was reflected in something on Mugg’s collar. I took a closer look.
It was a very large, very beautiful, princess cut, diamond ring.
I looked over to Gabriel who was grinning like a schoolboy. He swiftly removed the ring from the collar and got down on one knee next to the bed. My heart was pounding so wildly I was sure it was going to spring from my chest.
“Maisie.”
I couldn’t breathe.
“I know that this is still new, and some might call us crazy. But I don’t care. I have never been more sure of something in my whole life. From the moment that I first saw you, I knew that something was different about you. That something was different in me.”
Gabriel grabbed my hand. “It’s not that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. It’s that I need to. You are what completes me, Maisie. I may be able to buy anything in this world, but if I don’t have you by my side, then I will never be whole.”
The tears were now flowing freely from my eyes.
“Maisie, will you please do me the honour of becoming my wife?”
I let out the breath I had been holding. “YES! Oh Gabriel, YES!”
He didn’t hesitate to place the ring on my finger and gathered me in his arms. Mugg felt the excitement and started to jump in circles on the bed.
Gabriel joined me in the bed and pulled me in close. Mugg flopped down at our feet.
I sighed. I had never even dreamed that I could be as happy as I was now. To be Mrs. Gabriel St. Laurent, I had never imagined this life.
As Mugg readjusted himself, Gabriel gave a raised brow in the dog’s direction.
“You realize what this means? We are going to need a bigger bed.”
I had no idea what he was talking about. Mugg was rarely in our bed as his own was so luxurious.
“Why?” I asked.
Gabriel’s hand slipped down and touched the soft flesh of my stomach. I felt a heavenly shiver run through me.
“I plan on having at least a dozen little St. Laurent’s running around,” he said.
“How about we start with one,” I laughed.
“How about we start right now?”
His hand slipped down a little lower at my invitation. Whether it was two children, four or a baker’s dozen, I was going to enjoy every moment that it took to get us there.
