“You have everything you need,” I say, musing at it all.
“We do. But I’m learning to live off the land. Come check this out.”
Vince takes my hand and leads me down a rocky hill. At the bottom is a stretch of sandy shore, where the ocean lops lazily into the sand. I notice smoke rising up from the earth, and smell something delicious. Vince grabs a shovel that’s stuck in the sand, and digs a little. Under a shallow layer of sand are rocks, so hot they’re glowing red. Something sizzles, giving off a salty smell that makes my mouth water.
“It’s boar,” Vince says. “We’re having a barbecue tonight in honor of your arrival.”
I peer into the rocks, and see that below them is a large, pig-like animal. It’s skin crackles and browns.
“I killed it this morning,” Vince says.
I step towards him cautiously. It’s been so long since we’ve been together, and I’m feeling shy. “Look at you,” I say, swatting his arm. “A real survivalist.” My gaze falls down his muscled forearm, bruised and cut from battling his way through the jungle. I get a little turned on at the thought.
Vince’s arm slithers around my waist, and he holds me tightly by his side. The sun is setting. Stars are just beginning to find their way to us through the darkness. Vince stares at them contemplatively.
“When I shot that boar down today, I thought of all the men I’ve killed,” he says, his voice hanging heavy above my head. “I didn’t kill them for food, to survive. But for things like money, territory, pride.”
“Justice,” I counter.
I cling more tightly to him. It’s still hard for me to reconcile the Vince I know with the career criminal he is. He swings his hand down, breathing in the scent of my neck.
“Maybe I deserved to get locked up, to serve my penance for my crimes,” he says.
I feel the hot blood rushing through the veins in his torso. Vince’s skin is covered with a thin mixture of sweat and sand. His smell touches something deep in my brain, an ancient center that’s fixated on procreation. I bring my lips to his, tasting salt.
“Or maybe you deserve to be here with me,” I say.
Vince grips the hair at the back of my head, and gives me a warning look. He nips his teeth lightly at my neck.
“Plan B,” I say, turning the idea over in my head curiously. “You and your brothers are going to hide away from society for the rest of your lives?”
“For now,” Vince says. “At least until things die down. And it’s not just my brothers. It’s their wives and kids too.”
“Sounds fun. Like a constant vacation.”
“And it just got better.” Vince cups my ass, nibbling on my earlobe. “We’ll eventually emerge, probably once the kids get school age, with fake aliases. We’re still working out the details. No one really thought it would come to Plan B.”
I look down, drawing a circle in the sand with my toe. “Are you sorry it did?”
Vince holds my face in both of his hands. He’s a man of few words, but the depth in his eyes more than make up for it.
“No.”
I allow my eyes to fall shut. A moment later, I feel Vince’s lips caressing mine. He gently pries my mouth open with the tip of his tongue, then kisses me deeply. I fall under the spell of the tropical air, soothing ocean, and the smell of Vince. I sink deeper, not caring if I ever come up to breathe. I feel Vince’s hand working its way up my shirt, when a million questions come to me at once. I pull away from him with a gasp.
“I’ll have to walk away from my life too. My parents, well, that’s really it. I don’t have a job. But I will miss Walter.”
Vince tugs at my hair, pressing his forehead against mine. “It’s only temporary. We’ll get word to your parents that you’re okay, but after that, you can’t contact them while we’re hiding. Is that something you’re willing to do, Harley?”
He stares deeply into my eyes, anxiously anticipating my answer. I don’t have to think about it long.
“Can we get word to Walter too?”
Vince kisses me, smiling against my lips. “Him too.”
The night has completely fallen, and the stars are brilliant now, their light surrounding us in a hazy glow. I fall against Vince’s chest, feverishly tasting his skin. Vince lifts me easily from my feet, and lays me on my back in the sand. It’s warm from the layer of hot rocks that’s in close proximity to us. Vince pulls my shirt up to my neck, and lays kisses across the tops of my breasts.
“I’ve tapped into something primal on this island,” Vince says, his upper lip raised in a snarl. “I have to warn you.”
I snuggle deeper into the sand, feeling the warmth overcome me. “I can’t wait.”
Vince looks up and down my body like he means to eat me, licking his lip. Every muscle in his body flexes as he jumps on top of me, pinning me against the sand. He grabs my wrists, stretching my arms above my head.
“I’ve got you all to myself out here,” he growls against my ear. “I own you completely.”
He kisses a line down the middle of my body. I arch my back, letting Vince slide my pants off of me.
“I’m all yours, Vince.”
Vince slides my legs apart. I feel the tip of his cock, hard and pulsing, pry me open so he can slip inside. Vince is right, there is something primal about him. He throws my legs over my shoulders, and fucks me with animalistic aggression. I’m overcome by relentless pleasure, one orgasm rolling into the next. Vince’s hips buck ferociously, never stopping, never letting up, until he explodes.
Afterwards, we lie next to each other in the sand, catching our breath in the afterglow. I admire the outline of Vince’s chest against the deep night sky.
“I think I can get used to exile,” I say with a deeply satisfied sigh.
