“She’s the type of producer who’s very supportive of the director, who does everything she can to help the director get his or her movie made,” Scott Farrar would say. “She’s a great person and I think one of the best producers probably in Hollywood. Kathy is always trying to achieve the best quality product. She is there to support the creative, and that’s a good producer in my book.”
Then on October 30, 2012, the world learned that Lucas had sold Lucasfilm, ILM, LucasArts, Skywalker Sound, and the rights to Star Wars and Indiana Jones to the Disney Company. He also announced that he would be a consultant on Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, Star Wars sequels that Kennedy would executive produce (later, spin-off movies were announced, with Lawrence Kasdan’s involvement). A company meeting took place the same day with Lucas, Kennedy, and Howard Roffman taking the stage. It was the end of an era and the beginning of another, and there was a steady outpouring of appreciation for work already completed on so many classic films and for the man who had created so much, expressed in several standing ovations.
Roffman had been in semi-retirement before Kennedy came on and asked him to return: “I would not have come back unless I truly believed that we were doing the right thing for Star Wars and, even more fundamentally, that we were entrusting its fate to people worthy of that trust. I believe in Bob Iger and his teams at Disney. I believe in Kathleen. And I believe in George and our company. My faith isn’t blind. It’s based on knowing these people for decades, knowing their talents, their achievements, their integrity, their commitment. For many of the pundits analyzing the Disney deal, we are often little more than abstractions based on résumés and numbers on a page. But for me it’s much more. My faith is the product of my life experience, what I know from living and working with the folks to whom the torch has been passed, who will now share responsibility for keeping the Star Wars flame burning bright.”
When Lucas told Hamill about Episode VII, the incarnation of Luke Skywalker told the author that he was “gobsmacked.” Not long afterward the writer and director were confirmed after Internet leaks: Academy Award winner Michael Arndt and J.J. Abrams. At the time this book goes to press, nothing else is known about the upcoming movies, though as Lucasfilm hums with excitement and a new end to the Skywalker saga is fashioned, all is being readied …

Starting at noon: apprentice machinist Dave Hanks, cameraman Selwyn Eddy III, electronic engineer Marty Brennis, costume designer and concept artist Nilo Rodis-Jamero (with dark glasses), electronics system designer Jerry Jeffress, unknown, and effects cameraman Mike McAlister.
CAST AND CREW CREDITS (COMPLETE)
“I remember on Jedi posting all the ILM credits on the wall, and saying, ‘Go in there and check the spelling of your name and check your title, and if you have any problems, call us,’ ” says Howard Kazanjian. “They all did that and still a couple people didn’t notice that their names were misspelled.”
The following tries to correct those misspellings and to add those people who, at the time of the film, didn’t get their names on the credits for one reason or another.
