Uncle Andrew and Gary ran up to her as they all watched the police team arrest the egg collectors.
‘I hope they’re put in prison for a hundred years!’ Gary said.
‘Me too!’ Martina agreed.
Uncle Andrew smiled at them. ‘You two have a lot in common, you know. You’ve been a great team over the last few days.’
Gary gave Martina a playful nudge. ‘Yeah, I reckon we have.’ He took a crumpled hand-made card out of his pocket. ‘Happy birthday!’
‘Aw, thanks,’ Martina said, touched. This had to be the strangest birthday ever. She was actually sorry to be leaving the island – after all the excitement it suddenly didn’t seem like much fun to spend a quiet birthday at the hotel with her parents.
‘Mum’s promised me a hu-uge birthday cake,’ she said with a smile. ‘Do you and Uncle Andrew fancy helping me eat it?’ Wherever Splash was, she knew he’d be clicking his little beak with approval.
