#AllIWantForChristmas Page 6

by Yesenia Vargas

  Opening my eyes, I remembered to breathe.

  Wes stood before me. “See? I told you I wouldn’t bite.”

  Somehow, I managed to smile and not implode right then and there. Surely for Wes, it had just been a fun and meaningless kiss, but I was ready to pass out.

  Then my brother’s voice cut through the music. Wes waved and left, and I remained speechless. My eyes went back up to the mistletoe.

  Lena came up to the window, her fingers on the glass. “Wait a minute. IS THAT SNOW?”

  Within minutes, the microscopic white flecks had turned into a steady flurry blanketing Tori’s backyard.

  I took in the scene, committing it to memory because I knew my phone could never do it justice. “I can’t believe it,” I said.

  Lena waved our friends over, and then Harper dragged us outside.

  Ella stared up at the sky, her arms wide. “Harper, you were right!”

  It wasn’t long before everyone else joined us outside. The boys started making snowballs and throwing them at each other. Tori’s sister and Noah’s sister made snow angels.

  Harper linked her arm with mine and motioned to Lena, Tori, and Ella.

  The five of us stood in the snow, huddled together. Tori pulled out a pretty little camera, and we smiled for a picture.

  After, Harper said, “This has been the perfect Christmas.”

  I still couldn’t believe that Harper had gotten her white Christmas after all.

  Or how the five of us, so different, had come together and grown so close, but now I couldn’t imagine my life without my friends.

  As the world turned white, I realized that our friendship was kind of like a white Christmas.

  Magical.

  Author’s Note

  Hey :)

  * * *

  I can’t believe it! Another book! Shorter, for sure, but still a book :)

  * * *

  Writing this book was a whirlwind! So many of my author friends were writing Christmas stories, and I was like WHY NOT ME? Hehe.

  * * *

  A week later, this book was done.

  * * *

  It was so much fun to dive into each of the #BFF’s perspectives, and writing Rey for the first time ever was a little scary!

  * * *

  But I’m really happy with how the story turned out, even if it required some editing to get it just right ;)

  * * *

  Some fun facts and tidbits about the story:

  * * *

  Lena’s Christmas with her family is probably the closest to what my family does each year. We usually make tamales or enchiladas (not the kind you think, though) and gather on Christmas Eve to celebrate. At least growing up.

  * * *

  The childhood story her mom and aunts were remembering together is actually based on a story my mom told me. She really did wash dishes in a river as a child and one day she did break them, to her horror. She also hid in a tree until my grandfather convinced her all would be okay :)

  * * *

  Like Lena, I can be a little cynical around the holidays (so much cleaning and cooking and family drama!), but at the same time, the older I get, the more thankful I am each year for what we have.

  * * *

  Not just a home, our health, and enough to eat, but also family and friends.

  * * *

  And like Harper, seeing our little lit up Christmas tree always brings me joy—even if the extra holiday weight doesn’t! Haha.

  * * *

  I hope this Christmas story brought you a little joy this holiday season.

  * * *

  Thanks so much for reading. It means the world.
